Normally I don't care for Roguelites because they increase the difficult with cheap tactics but I absolutely love this game. The "just one more game" has never been more true for me!
For anyone still in doubt: I've also been playing it since release on the Switch, and it's just glorious. Wonderful gameplay and perfect optimization regarding loading times and frame rates.
How are the load times compared to say Fury Unleashed? Found that game rather slow and claustrofobic.
I was shocked it wasn't nominated for best Indie at the VGAs. Fantastic reviews out there.

I am STUNNED that it wasn't nominated for The Game Awards' best indie category. Has a better Metacritic average than all those other indies that were nominated, except for Neon White which it is tied with.
Great review! I'm probably about 60-70 hours in and I still can't get enough of this game. The first one was one of my favorite games and this one feels so much better. This is easily my Game of the Year.
Been playing this none stop since I bought it, it's so polished and runs like butter. Probably one of the best roguelite on the switch. This a true sequel as in they improved everything in the first one, and then more. It also looks amazing.
This game really deserves more attention.
This game is sooo good. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention, seeing how the first one was pretty popular. That said, this second game is so much better than the first. The classes really feel unique, and there's just so much to do and see and learn and unlock. Also, the "house rules" options make it easy to customize the difficulty, which is great for people like me who may struggle with (ahem) certain aspects (*cough* platforming *cough*).
I honestly feel like this game ranks right up there with something like Dead Cells. Hopefully people will see your review and decide to give it a shot!

100%, my man. I'm positively baffled the game has been getting like zero attention in game awards discussions. It's better than both Dead Cells and Hades, in my opinion.
@@jadimich I wouldn't personally rate it higher than Hades (the story alone puts Hades on a higher tier for me, plus the artwork, etc). But I'd agree it's at about the same level as Dead Cells. That said, personal preferences are definitely a factor there, and this game definitely deserves sooo much more attention than it's gotten. Hopefully more people will try it after seeing this video, and the game's popularity on Switch will soar. It is too bad about the game awards, though. Weird how overlooked this has been.
This game is so great. I finally got the final ending and all scars unlocked and I thought I should take a break, the next day I am back at it and it's harder than ever even with all my upgrades. I have over 140 hours in now and I don't see putting it down any time soon. I can't believe it was totally snubbed at the VGAs.
For game of the year it's right up there with XBC 3 and Elden Ring for me. Indie game of the year no contest.
It should be mentioned they just recently updated before the switch launch and that update really added some extra class content that I would say is kind of big cause it really changed how you’d play the original class. This game really is one of those few that steps up from its previous title.

Definitly a must buy for anyone. I usually dont enjoy roguelites, but this game got me hooked just like hades did. Maybe more.

Ok... you guys are back to your old form again. I start off with a 'no thanks' (certainly not for a Rogue-Like) and halfway through I end up putting this on my wish list! By the time I've finished your review I've moved to 'f*ck it, I'll pick it up and add it to my backlog' and now I'm planning for it to be my Christmas day game while waiting for family to appear! The game and the review are amazings and still there are more surprises not mentioned in the review.
I was hooked with the game for two weeks and the challenge never ends, you can keep upgarding your characters and your runs without lossing the challenge, indeed it becomes harder and harder if you want to.
If I had included all I think the review would be as long as my first run! Haha! MArk

Big-time Switch player and fan of the first Rogue Legacy. How was I unaware of this titles release? A shame. This deserves the recognition.
10/10 one of my favourite Roguelites ever! 160 hours on PC and NG+16 and still having fun

I really liked the first one , but it didn't draw me long enough to actually finish it. This one I got to say, is 10 times better and I'm definitely finishing it soon. It's an upgrade from the first one in every way, from graphics to gameplay to skill/armor progress to classes to buffs/afflictions, to different builds per run, to world progress, to challenges and content. One of my top roguelites I played in a good while for sure.

This game is so fun. Movement, combat, everything runs so smoothly. I just kept doing runs and didn’t notice there were quests for me to do (to be able to get further at that) 😂. Now that I’ve finally caught on that it’s even better
Is it just me or was the first Rogue Legacy crazy difficult in comparison to this one?
I couldn’t get anywhere in it, where in this one I was able to actually make some progress.

this one is a MUST BUY for anyone who enjoys a good 2d plataform. even for those not used to roguelites, it's worth it because you can actually feel progress with all the classes, upgrades and equipment/new sets being unlocked.
great value also. some Nintendo games are 3x more expensive and dont bring nearly as much content and fun.

Rogue Legacy was one of my first rogue-likes. I can’t believe it’s been almost ten years since it first released! Kicking myself for not picking this up on Steam earlier. Needless to say, I’m definitely buying it for the Switch like…right ow.
I put a ton of hours in the first game but still haven't had a chance to play this one yet. Definitely going to pick it up soon.
I bought it on steam, yes this game is amazing, logged in about 300hrs, so much replay value and definitely the superior of the first entry

Rogue legacy 2 is def one of the best roguelikes that came out recently. The gameplay is THAT clean.
Nice to see this get some air from SwitchUp. For those who like let's plays, Secret Sleepover Society has a good one for this game

Cant believe there's a sequel tbh loved the first game and after watching this review there's no doubt i'll love this one as well.
It would have been perfect with 2 players. I'm prioritizing the games with local co-op mode as I have less time for videogames than in the past.
One of the most addictive games I've ever played and also one of the best games on the switch.

It's dunny bc I don't enjoy roguelikes but, Rogue Legacy proved to be a ton of fun, largely due to the progression systems, and humor.
The first one is one if my favorite rougelikes ever made and sequel is even better.
Absolutely fantastic game, coming from a roguelike/lite fan who has tried and played many games in the genre. After defeating the final boss for the first time, I thought that I would be able to put the game down just for abit to play some of the other games that I have in my backlog, but I just couldn’t resist going back to the castle immediately for another run… On NG+ now with 50+ hours and getting my butt kicked, but still absolutely loving the game and can’t wait to play more. Well worth your time and money.
For a Rougelike/lite 50 hours are like Rookie hours son! 😆

Looks like a great game I get to enjoy so many different games with ultimate game pass, I do miss having Nintendo switch online service but I have the Sega genesis mini 1&2, Plus my super Nintendo from childhood and I got my hands on a GameCube this year 💫🎮

I played RL1 and thought it was nice but quite clunky. When RL2 entered Early Access on Steam I bought the game and I was absolutely impressed by what was there at the time. The controls are very responsive, the classes are very different and therefore mix up the gameplay quite considerably and the art style is just beautiful. Ever since Cellar Door Games have added many things and improved upon a lot of what was alreasy there and created a game that is, to me, an absolute joy to play. Just recently I wanted to see what they changed and "jump back in" for a bit and ended up playing 40 hours in 4 days. If the game runs as well on the Switch as it seems this is a must-play for everybody who likes platformers and roguelites.
P.S.: The "take off all" equipment/runes feature was added to the game because of me suggesting it to the devs quite a while back on their Discord server :)

I don't mind keeping some kind of progression in Rogue-likes, but in the case of Rogue Legacy (the first one) I felt like the game expected you to die. Unlike a game like Binding of Isaac where, if you're good enough, you could theoretically finish the game the first time you play, I felt like RL expected you to have upgrades if you wanted any chance to finish it. I didn't get a sense of this is still the case in the review, but I'm curious if it is still the case in the sequel.
No on my first run I so far. It's all skill based now like Isaac - very very little is based on just getting new gear. Mark

Just bought it and I absolutely love it
I loved Rogue Legacy 1 and played it on my laptop when I was in university, as well as Binding of Isaac Rebirth. It was addictive and a lot of fun. I think I like the pixel art style of 1 better than the style of 2, but the gameplay looks improved. Still, I think this kind of game is too much for me right now haha.

Great video! I'm torn between picking it up for Steam (deck) or getting it on Switch to play with the OLED screen. Performance looks to be a non-issue from the video but I've heard there is slowdown on some big scenes/boss fights.
Apparently there's a very brief stutter during on of the hectic boss battles but it doesn't effect gameplay.

Man, I have tried to get into rouge games over and over. I just recently gave risk of rain 2 a shot since it was so cheap in the eShop, I played it for a couple of hours and then just got tired of it. I'm starting to think these type of games (no matter how much praise they get) are just not for me.
Same with me but this game really grabbed me. The permanent unlocks help so much and the classes have so much variation I actually enjoyed a roguelike.

Game is brilliant but I am constantly getting fps drops on my Switch. Especially when i see fire on the screen or in the character selection menu. Hoping for a performance patch
the Graphics has improved alot! what I HATE about the game is that everytime you start a new game, Charon steals your hard earned money! I really hated that.

This looks great the art style and gameplay are something I haven't played for a while. Looks more like Bastion then Hades which I preferred.
