How To Qualify For Disability And Paid Family Leave In CA

The ONLY way to get paid parental leave through California is through paying into CASDI.
And here are the ground rules:
-You have to have paid into CASDI 5-18 months before your claim date (your first day of leave)
-You have to have earned at least $300 from which State Disability Insurance (SDI) deductions were withheld during your base period (5-18 months before your claim date)
-You must be employed or actively looking for work at the start of your claim
-You must have lost wages because you we’re unable to work (because you’re bonding/caring for your baby/yourself)
Go check your paystub! If CASDI is listed as a deduction, chances are you’ll qualify for PFL and also SDI if you’re a birthing parent!
