- Disney has finally dropped their teaser trailer for the Lion Kind Remake... prequel. Naturally, it's all about Mufasa and there's two ways to think about this movie. On the one hand the 2019 Lion King remake lost a lot of artistic prowess by creating photorealistic character designs that struggled to express emotions.. not to mention it was a beat-for-beat copy of an superiorly done movie. But this time, it's an original sequel. With a whole new direct in Barry Jenkins, it looks like it could have the potential to return to its artistic routes. The motivation is certainly. But looking with our eyes, Mufasa: The Lion King Movie trailer seems pretty much the same as 5 years ago, with slight improvements maybe. I am quite the critic of the Lion King original remake, but will this movie be more Disney corporate cash grabbing, or will this be a brilliant blend of technological prowess, and box office popularity? Guess we'll just have to see. The fact are still clear that yes, Disney Are Making Another Lion King...

Honestly after beeing very dissapointed by the 1st Lion King live action movie i'm not really sure about watching this movie 😅. Also even though the liniage can be confusing the Lionking 2 it isn't actually that bad in my opnion 😬, especially compared to some of the other straight to dvd sequels 🙃.

You won't find an industry that is as creatively bankrupt as Modern Hollywood. Sequels, remakes, Bland Franchise extensions, all of that rubbish.

With this new movie being something original I feel will be better! It gives you a fresh new story! Plus it’s being directed by an Oscar winner director

Why did Lin choose to go with Disney in the first place? Their company encompasses literally everything he stands against… I’m still pissed he let them take Hamilton away. And now he’s like their lapdog that they use to ensure there is at least one gem amongst all the crap.

that wouldn't change the fact that there is no need to see Mufasa's life. The mystery around it and just knowing he was a great king is all we need. he's only there to guide Simba and be a role model for Simba to look up to.

I'm confused by them saying mufasa doesn't have a drop of royal blood in his vains. I always assumed mufasa and scar were prince brothers and fought over the crown. If they aren't royal, why did scar think he could be king?

I mean it's more realistic than a lion royal bloodline, the leader of a pride is the biggest, strongers male who won it over by battle, and irl lionesses prefer dark maned males, so Scar "should" be king.
Yeah, I always assumed that too. The fact that Mufasa doesn’t have royal blood goes against already established Lion King lore. We already know the story-Mufasa and Askari (aka Scar) (yes, Askari, not Taka!) were prince brothers, Mufasa was older so he got to be king, and Scar was jealous of him for it. If they’re not really brothers, that makes the whole story lose a lot of its impact. The reason why what Scar did was so evil was because he did it to his own brother, his own family.
Yes, it literally makes no sense because in the original lion, King Mufasa even states that his father was one of the great kings of the past. It makes totally no sense and honestly I just think that they should’ve just gone with the original story.

You know, i'm kinda interested to see how Mufasa's backstory goes. But at the same time, making this into a photorealistic live action movie was pretty dissapointing as the last time they did that, it just didn't work, it felt like watching an Animal Planet movie with voice acting to it. I really wished they could've made this into a full animated movie instead of this 🤷

Yay, more photorealistic lions with no expressive features, star studded cast, and manipulative nostalgia bait to draw in the credulous who falls for this, goodie. Disney could really learn from the Owls of Ga'hoole, on how to use photorealism and character expressions to make an awesome film, but of course, that mean learning something, and Disney execs are too concentrated on quantity over quality, it's a content mill afterall.

I didn't enjoy the movie Guardian of Ga'hoole from having read the book (ceamming 16 books in 1 movie is never a good idea) BUT I have to give that the visuals are FANTASTIC.
They had expressions in this one though. Though I can’t argue against your other points it’s true XD.
@@XWierdThingsHappenX that's what I said. As much as I dislike the movie Ga'hoole, this is an exemple of well balanced realism. They trued to make the owls and the way they were flying as realistic as possible, but knew when to drop it for storytelling

Mufasa cant even claim the spot of being the first live action remake original sequel, 102 dalmations was released in 2000 as a sequel to the 1996 101 Dalmatians live action remake
Any sliver of interest in the movie was killed by the character list. If this is a prequel about Mufasa then why on earth are Simba, Timon, Pumba, Nala, AND KIARA all in this movie!?!?! I can see why they would be tempted to flash forward to a short scene of Simba grown up and taking the throne or something. But why is his daughter from the sequel here with an older child voice actress?! I'm scared this film is going to be split in half by telling Mufasa's story and then more about Simba. Such a mess either way.

A few years ago, People actually DID want a 4th lion king movie. Whether it was a sequel to Simba's pride or a prequel to The first Lion King, People asked for one or the other for years. Now we finally got the latter...But at what cost? Bad CGI, and a convoluted story with retcons and unnecessary plot holes. Even if it was animated, The last two problems would still be there. Overall this is just a sad case of: " Be careful what you wish for" for all of the older lion king fans.
Shame their wasting their effort on prequels rather than creating something unique and original and taking risks for once

In my canon, the only reason this happened was because the animation team's research material to do this would mostly be behavioral clips of animals, mostly felines.
In other words, they would have to get paid to watch animal videos on TH-cam, mostly cute cat videos.
I'm still scratching my head on how in the world Barry Jenkins is the director for this. Like, i could never in a million years would ever think the director of Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk would direct a photorealistic live action Lion King movie. This was such an odd choice, it kinda shocked me how he was involved in this as a director 😂😂

At least they listened to feedback and gave the animals emotions and made them move more like cartoons. The new brightly coloured environment looks good as well, still an uneeded film but at least they listened to feedback

The live action remakes are their own separate canon from the animated stories. That's part of the reason they don't follow the exact same story just in live action and have changes in them.

I mean yeah... ANYONE would say "its the best decision of my life" when Disney hands them a big stack of cash.
So assuming this is lion king ii, meaning kovu will be in it since kiara was mentioned, i will not watch it because i don't think i can handle a kovu with a different voice. Kovu's va was my childhood (he was in so many animated shows i watched) and i loved the choices he made with kovu that will just annoy me having someone else mess with.
I did see the lion king live action when it was free to me to watch and someone else i was with was excited about it even if i was at the time meh, and i didn't find much enjoyment in the story and didn't think the animals were worth watching
This is a prequal to the first movie and not a sequal :) Literally called Mufasa. Sadly I believe they said they don’t want to remake the second movie since it was a straight to dvd experience so I doubt that will ever get the cgi treatment but honestly I hope it stays that way since I can only see bad things coming if they did.
and theres a few problems with this being a prequel: if kovu and kiara are in this movie and mufasa is too, that means that mufasa aged and kovu and kiara didnt up until the lion king 2, which is also weird considering kiara is simba’s daughter, so in short: my mind is evaporating

If anyones confused : Mufasa is an orphan who even scars dad (mufasas adoptive father) favored over scar, and chose him to be king. Probably caused a fight/disownment, etc..
I'll pass on this one, and Disney is making a big mistake about releasing it on the same day that Paramount will release Sonic 3 in theaters. From what has been revealed about that upcoming videogame adaption movie so far I think that it can out perform this Mufasa movie because:
1. Because of Disney loosing a major amount of it's fanbase, not a lot of people want to see movies that are made by that company lately,
2. Sonic 3 will have Shadow the hedgehog in it,
3. It got revealed that the celebrity actor Keanu Reeves will be voicing him,
4. It has been confirmed that Paramount got the rights to the most highly wanted game song for that movie (the Sonic Adventure 2 theme song: Live & learn by Crush 40) and will include it into the Sonic 3 movie because that studio doing that has become legal,
5. It got revealed that that movie has been getting a lot of inspiration from SA2,
6. A majority of people worldwide are already very much hyped for that movie and can't wait for it to be relased so they can watch it,
7. Paramount has been avoiding the idea of putting any woke BS into the Sonic movies.
I think that the Sonic 3 movie will likely be the highly grossing box office winner because of those reveals and more.

This movie is going to be released on the same day as Sonic 3. I think we know which movie would be more successful. While the trailer for Sonic 3 hasn't come out at the time that I'm typing this, it's very clear that people are sick and tired of Disney's shit. They've been getting a lot of negative reception, Wish was a financial and critical failure despite being their 100th anniversary and there's the like to dislike ratio for the trailer of this movie which isn't very good. Yes, there's people excited for this movie, but it's clear that the majority of audiences are getting sick of these movies.
Considering Kiara is gonna be in this, it makes wonder if they'll add Kion in a remake of The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, that would actually be an improvement so the retcon makes more sense. This is probably the first time that Disney ever acknowledges their direct to video sequels in another project (while The Lion Guard is probably the first, this is definitely the first time in a theatrical movie that they acknowledge them. Though it's also not surprising because that sequel has an insane following with tons of fanart. Update: I forgot about video games). Speaking of retcons, it's weird to see Timon and Pumbaa in this movie, meaning that 1 1/2 doesn't happen in the remake's timeline.
Yeah, i'm not looking forward to this one. But I gotta admit, a prequel that focuses on the rise of Mufasa? Not a bad idea!

Disney could’ve done the prequel during the 90’s in 2D animation
Disney: “We are remaking a live action Lion King because we need to make money lazily and believe that the animated medium is only appropriate for children.
*Also Disney: proceeds to not use any live footage except for one shot, no change to plot or adding new layers, make the entire film with a photo-realistic art style thereby recreating the original animated film and making a billion dollars. Thereby proving animated films deserve recognition and are an appropriate medium to convey narratives as effectively as live action.

I hate to admit it, but I put a lot of time as a teenager into "studying" Lion King "lore." The sources in the early 00s were a set of comics and books. They went over Mufasa's relationship early on with his brother and parents. I think that the newer cartoon series also has its own lore. A lot of fans also had their own theories before the cartoon series. I have no idea wth this trailer is. Ice lions????

I’m in the same boat as you Dazz, I really despise the 2019 demake of the beloved film but it was a shock to hear/see that Lin Manuel Maranda is going to be doing the songs in this and I just hope that this isn’t another scuttlebutt moment or he actually wakes up from that curse and makes some good af songs! And I’m also hoping that this movie makes sure that they treat Mufasa well in this including his backstory. And I think it’s an improvement for the emotional expressions on the lions faces when compared to the first one so at least that’s a plus.

In the 2020 movie Call of the Wild the animals did NOT talk but they DID have facial expressions, proving that cgi animals CAN be expressive. I'm glad they seem to be addressing this. All I want from this movie is the least bit of expression from the animals.

Gotta admit, I'm more interested in the Mufasa movie than I was in the 2019 Lion King remake. At least it's trying to do something different. IMO the best Disney live action remakes are the ones that differ greatly from their source material. The Maleficent and Cruella movies are my favorites among the live action remakes because of that fact. Because honestly, what's the point in doing a remake if you're just telling the same story beat for beat, shot for shot?

This looks pretty bad. I've been watching Prehistoric Planet lately, and it's amazing how realistic they look. Of course that production company doesn't cut corners the way Disney does either, and it shows in the trailer.
The Fur style is pretty good, and I like how they added facial expressions to the animals!

sonic 3 is gonna wip the floor with this movie...it's just a soulles take on a beloved franchise and somehow timon and bomba are in it?! even though they never heard of the guy before.

I don't think this has a chance at being the highest-grossing movie of the year, animated or otherwise. Disney's been flopping left and right. Little Mermaid failed to break even. Yes this is the sequel to a movie that made over $1.6 billion. But I guarantee, people are burned out on the live-action remakes, and they do not care about this prequel. The word of mouth on this movie is already shot. And Disney's bad fortunes are not just going to suddenly turn around in 2024.
Mark my words, it will not make anywhere near the gross of the first movie. I think it will make probably closer to $600 million or maybe a little more. Which is still decent, but nothing close to what I think some people are assuming it will make.
Inside Out 2 will likely be the standout animated hit with over $800 million worldwide, for sure. It may even hit a billion.
Imagine the movie flops so hard, it kills the entire franchise thoroughly enough for disney to renounce the live action entries. One can only hope...

Where did you see something saying that Beyoncé and Blue Ivy are “doing the soundtrack”? If you think that’s why their names show up in the credits at the end of the trailer, that’s just referring to their voice-acting appearances in the movie as Nala and Kiara, respectively. Also, Beyoncé only did one song in the first Lion King, which isn’t the same thing as saying that she “did the soundtrack”, which kinda implies that she scored it or at least wrote an EP’s worth of original songs.
I will admit that it has more Expressions that the last time however I don’t know, looks to me the Original is Nostalgic, the Second is a Masterpiece and is the Best Lion King Movie to Me, the Prequel was Underrated, Lion Guard is one of the Worst thing that I have ever seen that retconned everything from the Movies, and the Live Action Remake is a Abomination to the Franchise, it’s nothing personal, I just feel absolutely nothing about this Trailer, if it was completely Animated then we’ll Talk.

At least the CGI in this sequel shows a little more expressiveness to the animals than in the first film
All I'll say is, While I don't have a lot of high hopes for this upcoming TLK film, I'm willing to see how it will turn out.

I'll watch it. I saw the trailer several times and I saw improvements in the facial features.
I only read PRFOYL on the thumbnail on my home page and I went like. "Weh? Is he having a stroke? Am I having a stroke? What could it- ooooh. PREQUEL, god it.." still might layer the letters over the lifeless CG monstrosity. that would definitely be an improvement.
