...This is all moving very fast with TWO Moana projects steaming along by the end of the year. What a time for Disney...
So where do you think they'll go with the sequel? And do you think it'll be worth it..?
Ahsheg976431vbuhercbyf
50/50 Chance
I don't think so since modern Disney and Pixar are so bad I'm already scared about inside out 2
Do I think it’ll be worth it? Absolutely not. It almost always never is. Moana really had nothing left to say at the end of the movie and I think stretching out a story more than it was originally supposed to be almost never works.
It won’t be worth it.
Instead of milking Moana and doing live-action remakes, they should fund the lost Treasure Planet trilogy that Disney purposely f’ed over.
It was supposed to be a trilogy?! I knew they had planned a (scrapped) sequel but I didn’t know about a third! :0
With the quality of the slop theyre producing?
Nahh i want disney to stay far away from treasure planet or atlantis. Better to fondly remember the good old animation than a shitty remake.
I would kill for a new Treasure Planet as good as the 1st one 😭
And they need to stay away from brother bear!!!!! 😡😡😡
@@Ihazfunkitty Well, Disney ISN'T going to turn them into live action remakes. No, sir! They're going to be creating good old animations again! No more remakes! No more DEI! The movies they'll be making will be brilliant movies without DEI planned by me! That's a promise!
For those who don’t know, this was originally supposed to be a Moana TV series for Disney+, but in Disney sequel fashion, they squished them together into a feature premier
Oh god, this is Atlantis Milo’s Return all over again.
Oh no
Yeah it is gonna be that lower quality animation, not as good voice acting, and way lower quality story since it is a lower budget
Okay forget it, now live action doesn’t sound like a bad idea
@@RulerOfWoopers Actually the TV Show was done by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Disney just had to make some changes to make it a full-length sequel
Moana being a bit older is a huge green flag. Letting the characters age and live a bit between sequels means they're giving themselves room to find a new story that expands on the first
how much you wanna bet scaffrillas is gonna use the live action tamatoa as a scuffed reaction image
at least one USD
alot of money lol /j
I'd be more willing to bet that they're going to scrap Tamatoa altogether for the live action :/
@@theshockinglyeloquentdog9945 nah they gonna live action flounder em.
@@theshockinglyeloquentdog9945I hope they don’t straight up make him a human because they’re too lazy to animate. I’d honestly prefer a horrifyingly terrible CGI job than a boring compromise 😭
They showed over half an hour of inside out 2?! Why? How? What?!
Thats crazy.
Huh?
@@Commander-peepers did you watch the video?
Wouldnt be the first time they did something like that, they also did this with Toy Story 3.
Simple, they're despite. 2023 has been such a poor year for them that they're willing to do just about anything to get people to watch their new content. Of all the movies mentioned so far, Inside Out 2 seems to be the only one likely to be watched and well received.
Something meant to be a TV show, turned into a movie, that has a *blue* important character... Surely this won't go wrong!
lelo and stitch pulled it off lmao 🤞🤞
@@HarringtonsApocy Love that movie.
@@HarringtonsApocydifference between lilo+Stitch and Moana: Moana is 3d and had actual detailed texture, while lilo and stitch is 2d and has little to no texture.
Oh no
this being originally a TV show doesn’t mean it’ll suck. They didn’t make each episode and are just re-editing it into a movie, they literally just restarted the entire project with the ideas from the show, meaning the production of this is nearly exactly the same as other films apart from the early history.
This means that the budget isn’t a TV budget but will be a film budget.
The misinformation being casually thrown around about this film is insane, like I have my concerns with the movie but the main stuff being tossed around is dishonest.
The Rock is in his 50s so my guess is they’re rushing it to get him before he starts winding down, especially now that he’s more involved in WWE again
James Earl Jones was 88 when he made the Lion King live action, so it's not that.
its _the rock._ he aint winding down anytime soon
@@Jose04537 that was voice acting I meant they where rushing the Live-Action remake of Moana
@@Chibi_Mercury I believe he’ll be an action Star for decades to come if allowed to and won’t wind down of voice acting or being a public figure.
I just meant the older Action Stars get the harder it gets for them to even be allowed to do action scenes without the cost of insurance skyrocketing which is the reason a lot of action stars like Tom Cruise become their own producers and shoot in other countries to loophole the price of insurance back down.
Insurance works on risk assessments and Injuries compound over time so they get more and more caucuses every passing year even if the star is in great shape.
eventually most stars get to the point of modern Liam Nisan or Samual L. Jackson where they’re sitting down in as many scenes as is possible which is doable with a lot of characters but not with an ageless ball of energy like Maui.
So here's the thing: we're getting still poster images and The Rock to promote Moana 2 (which supposedly has been far enough in production to make a November release), because they don't actually have a movie ready to show. Moana was being made into a Disney+ series, and Iger needed something to boost the earnings call, so he announced the sequel without prior consent from any of the studios.
What is happening is the studios are now scrambling to cobble together what they had of the series into a movie, re-voice the characters with the actual actors, throw in songs where there weren't any, and all within a span of 6 months.
Disney has no material to put together in a trailer that won't just expose the mess this "movie" is, but they can doctor up a poster and get the iconic Duane to promote it instead, because people love Maui and if Duane is there saying it's great, then by golly it's gotta be something to hype about!
It's definitely heading to be a canoe wreck. If it bombs, Disney needs to sit down and reconsider ALL of their decisions.
@@EyesWillRule they needed to reconsider all their decisions years ago
its frozen 2 all over again

You say that about Toy Story, but if you were a little kid when that movie came out, like 4 or 5, you grew up rewatching 1 & 2 and you were starting university when the 3rd one came out, oh my god the feels. That ending was too real.
Yea it was really something. Should have ended at 3 imo
I cried more at the end of toy story 3 than I ever have for any reason in my life
That ending hit so much harder considering I was going into college then too
A bit random, but the same person who voices Moana (Auli’i) also voices Hailey in a Disney Channel show called Hailey’s On It. I’ve watched some of the show, it’s not bad. In fact, they even directly reference the movie in one of the episodes
“You know, I’m not sure, but I really relate to Moana”
“I relate to her friend”
“Moui?”
“No, Hei Hei!”
Live Action Moana will mostly be animated anyway, is that irony?
The majority of the characters will be CGI.
Most of the movie will just be Moana and Maui against a green screen.
That's the sum total of the live action element.
I’d like to assume that the higher ups at Disney didn’t tell the people working on it that it was going to be a movie before the headlines came out. Like how some people working on cartoons only find out their show has been cancelled from the news before the studio tells them
I’m more than willing to bet that Disney was like:
“okay, our last four original animated films we made underperformed and 2023 was one of our worst years financially. Animation-wise Dreamworks and Sony have been beating us to the punch since 2018, and they’ll probably do it again with The Wild Robot. Let’s not throw good money after bad, let’s just take that Moana show we’re working on and turn it into a movie, hopefully that’ll put us back on top. The animators at the Vancouver studio need a full year to boost the quality? They get 9 months!”
They’ve very likely been working on this movie for a few years, they’re not suddenly working on it since February.
It’s not a re-edit of a finished series, they literally restarted the project to be a movie with a movie budget with the same ideas.
@@TheDiamondCore oh, okay then
I also want to point out to anyone who reads this that Encanto and Wish were very likely being made at the same time (a la The Lion King and Pocahontas)
DreamWorks had like literally one excellent movie between 2018-2023. While Disney through their Pixar and WDAS studios have one the Best Animated Feature Oscar 3-times in that time. Not to mention that Disney has had the far bigger hits than either studio in that time frame. Not to say that Sony & DreamWorks haven't done good work and been successful, because they have. But this portrayal that Disney has been decisively beaten (especially when you start in 2018) is just wrong.
@@kropianimation1774tbf though disney is usually handed the oscar by default because the voters don’t really care that much about the animated feature category. while i guess it is a sign of their brand success i wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a marker of them making ‘better’ films than other studios
Out of all the movie's to make a sequel too, Moana is the one that should get a sequel. There's so many creative possibilties you take with the world now that the sea has been freed. New adventures, stories, characters, place's to visit, the possibilties are endless!
But it doesn’t need one. I’ve never thought of this movie needing a sequel, it shows us all we needed. She finished her story. Why don’t they just make… a new story?
@@NoLongerSpicey_ Exactly! And I've got PLENTY of new stories that'll make excellent Disney films! This time, instead of flops, they'll be animated classics! I'm going to make them so once I get a job at Disney! Just you wait and see.

The idea that an only 8-year-old Disney movie is getting a sequel and a live-action remake almost back-to-back, no matter the context, is wild to me. Sadly, there's a decent chance neither of them will be good (won't stop me from going to see it in the theaters, though) and will be mere cash grabs.
Edit: for clarification, in case my take seemed contradictory (or "braindead" as the peanut gallery rudely put), I admit I shouldn't be endorsing a potentially bad movie by giving it money. I believe this movie isn't likely to being on par with the original film, but I never said Moana 2 was guaranteed to be God awful, hence I said I'd still go to the theater to see it. There are several Disney sequels - Hell, even remakes - that I've enjoyed, so while I'm not holding my breath for Moana 2, I'm not dismissing it either, since it's too early to accurately gage its quality at this point. If it gets positive reviews, I'll head to the theaters. If it gets negative reviews, I'll take my repliers' suggestion and watch it outside of the theater. No harm, no foul.
Why would you want to see this in theaters then?
Realizing they're cash-grabs and then going to see them anyway is literally making everything worse. Like they're bad because people like you are going to watch them. Awesome.
Pirate that shit, tf you mean you're gonna see it in the theater 😭
@@Mad_Ancient_Computer_700AD "I will continue to incentivize lazy cash grabs" is exactly why they will keep making this stuff. Why put in effort with something new when you can just make a bland repeat or soulless sequel?

He was right about how long ago the movie came out, but messed up the year. It came out in 2016, right when I was finishing college.
I recommend Unicorn of War's video "Why We Hate Animation" as a deep dive on why we are now plagued by live-action remakes. They overall make really good content, too, especially with critiques.
The stigma of animation really needs to die for sure. Not even Disney and their renaissance movies, nor even Japan's anime influence, could cause the right shift in people's minds that animation is a medium.
When people think Disney=kids and anime=adult, it's kinda getting there, but it's not enough. I'm cheering for indie developments like Lackadaisy to further progress this shift of understanding and perception.
@@BuizelCream Well, Disney is going to make some positive changes once I get to work there. I love animation a lot, and I also want my animated Disney creations to further progress the shift of understanding and perception that animation is a medium. I saw the first movie in theaters with my dad, neither of us really expecting anything out of it, and we left the theater just in awe. It became one of our favorite movies to watch together, and he would always say how much Moana remind him of me.
My dad died back in 2019 and so it’s been hard to rewatch the movie again without thinking about my dad, I would love to have him here to watch the sequel with me (even if it’s terrible lmao).

Not interested in anything less than a Stereo Lisa.
3:29 "if you were in the room when it happened" I see what you did there. And I love it.
I have an anxious worry they'll western-wash Moana 2 out of a sheer lack of Polynesian influence and studio care. I had a similar worry back in the day when Mulan II was announced, and those fears came to be. As domestic life took a focus, a mixure of failure, ignorance, and a need to appeal to a western audience destroyed all credibility of cultural authenticity, making it almost Emperors new groove levels of western culture with an pre-colombian aesthetic. I don't think moana will be AS bad as that or even as bad as the other Mulan projects, but I still worry that a studio like that that is still 96%+ western and still mostly white will miss the mark in a horrible way when they explore lifestyle on the island, floating between monolithic sterotyping ang cultural gap filling with western white cultural norms and mores.
If Moana was more culturally accurate then there would be a proliferation of ritualistic sacrifices and Moana would have had 8 childeren by the time the sequel comes out. Which would unironically be far more interesting than whatever predictable girl power drek the next one will be but I wouldn't hold my breath.
@@welfare_kinglol that does sound interesting 😂
To me there's only 1 important quality in a movie: is it good? I think that should be the biggest issue, especially when you hear that this was animated *outside* the country and the Disney animators didn't know anything about it. And that includes the original voice actors which further proves this was a TV show
I wouldn’t be very surprised if there’s not another Demi-god/ humanoid god in the sequel.

Disney is stuck on franchise milking land and now they don't even wait to remake or reboot things as that live action Moana, their series too like the new Phineas and Ferb reboot, it's just been 9 years since the last episode.... I'm tired of this industry prioritizing sequels than original ideas
“2018” was not that long ago. 2016 on the other hand
The two movies I have seen requested the most for a live action remake is Treasure Planet and Atlantis. Disney needs to stop with the others. I am interested to see where they go with the second Moana, I am taking the road that the chief is going to pass soon and she is torn about where she should be again, kind of like Frozen, mostly because it's something they have tried and they know the story line works. I don't see them taking many risks with this one as Disney isn't really in to taking risks unless it's a live action remake, they like their formula and they try to stick to it, especially if it's a sequal.
God, i hope it's worth it. This better be a worthy follow-up
