Thrifting has exploded in popularity over the last 10 years, and even more so right now with TH-cam channels. So many people are seeing the value in thrifting. Thrift stores had gotten wise to it and are raising their prices.
@@Devina210except no one wants to pay high prices at thrift stores! I just go on Facebook marketplace and find much better deals.

We purchased one about a year ago and it does in fact occasionally lock itself when it closes. 😬 Thankfully no children in our household so no threat for us there. But I did just a brief search on the recall and it seems Lane will send you a replacement lock for free. Something to consider for you if you want to try to replace a lock and fix up a lane chest to resell. The one you saw and showed us in this video is a total mcm dream . Beautiful square lines no frills very accessible for today's home furnishings I think. BTW love the thrift with me videos!! Keep up the great work!
That one hutch you could not get open, had a lever at bottom of door that you would need to flip up to open

Agree that thrift stores have gotten ridiculous with their prices...and I see the same pieces sitting in some of my thrift stores for MONTHS, yet they won't bring the prices down.
A local furniture charity here in the UK has 2 prices, one for anyone on benefits and one for everyone else. That helps those who genuinely need the charity, able to still afford it. Their normal prices are still very reasonable.

Coffee table - sand it down ~ stain legs slightly darker to give it some color. Tabletop ~ stain it a lighter color.
Dresser ~ sand it down. Bondo or do something in the middle of that one drawer that is 3 small ones and a large one ~ make it look like the two on the bottom. Do the same with the imagery top triple drawer. Hardware: use long black handles for the size of drawer. … but on the middle imaginary double drawers place handle in middle of drawer. Base doesn’t look like fun, too chunky or something. Black legs would look nice.
I have replaced the bases on rolling chairs similar to those brown faux leather chairs and turned them into side chairs for my home, it is the same process you use building new bases for furniture.

Love your finds! And I agree with Neiman--thrift store prices make no sense. I'm excited to see both flips, but I'm very curious to see what you do with the coffee table. I"m picturing a white wash or white stain, just something light and bright all over, but you know best what will work and what will sell, so I'll just wait to see what you do.

I had a coffee table like the one you got. I think a paint wash to tone down the yellow and show off the parttern on top would be a great way to finish it off,
Coffee table. I like the idea of refinishing the top to see the chevrons with a grey or blue base.

The dresser you ended up getting… I’m a sucker for green paint with a pale wood top. I would probably smooth out the decorative side pieces, but I might leave the curvy bottom. I’m far from an actual furniture flipper though, so take that opinion with an entire bucket of salt, lol.

I always like the black with stain top. It looks classy.🤠🤠💖(coffee table) The dresser I always think a nice color with stained top and front drawers and legs. Maybe Blue-gray, black, or dark green.
Hahaha! Love the little video about making thrift stores cheap again! I’m currently working on a real wood herringbone desk and the little pieces are so uneven! It’s taking a long time to sand them flat so I can stain it. I’d probably do a paint wash on your coffee table but I can’t decide on leg color yet. Start with the dresser! Bigger profit margin with that one.

The dresser! That's my choice. I have been enjoying a natural top and baby base lately. I'd like to see any hardware that is NOT gold. And I think you could hange out the base to something more clean lined. If anyone can do it, it's YOU!
I bought 2 '80s solid oak end tables with oak herringbone inlay in the center of the doors. They were $5 each at Habitat. I painted the tables dark burgundy and stained the herringbone a lighter color so they would stand out from the burgundy. They look awesome.

That cabinet has a little spring loaded hook tat the bottom that you pinch to open the door. I have a similar one.

I would do the cherry dresser with a natural top(or natural color) with a black or brown base, and contemporary bronze or muted gold hardware. Also, some kind of legs.

I'd go for the coffee table first. Sand down, then paint wash with a very light neutral to tone it down. Cathedral Taupe by FMP as a wash is lovely and is has fewer gray/green undertones than Algonquin. Another option would be to do a wash with Algonquin or Cathedral Taupe (or similar from other lines) on the top with full strength of the color on the bottom. I also did a dresser with Algonquin full strength on the body and a Cathedral Taupe wash on the drawers and it turned out beautifully. Whatever you do, I know it'll look amazing!

The clip was so funny and so dead on right! I quit going to a lot of them after seeing the continuous crazy prices. Even marketplace prices and garage sale prices are ridiculous and you have to search forever to find a good deal anymore 😏

Did you ever find out why the cabinet at the first store was so expensive? Thrift store prices where I live (in central Iowa) are insane. It’s getting really hard to find a bargain.
I remember tears ago winning a door prize at a Convention It was a Quison Ard , Very expensive for then (179.00). but traded with another winner for the Bentwood(69.99) Had it for years and through 5 kids. Only thing left is a picture.

You missed the best Thrifstore in Topeka, which is The Giving Tree. They always have a variety of furniture. They typically provide pictures on Facebook when they get new items.
From a purely business standpoint, I'd do the Mahogony dresser first. You had multiple customers show interest in your last piece of a similar style. I'd do a repeat of the same style and color. That being said, the challenge of the herringbone table (I'd do natural on top w/ black legs) would make me want to do it first.
Yes Thrift Stores are getting pretty proud of their stuff. Make Thrift Stores cheap again. Next time you travel south stop in Liberty MO. Try Savers, Good Will, Manor Thrift and City of Hope. I have picked up a lot of pieces of furniture at these places.

I've been to those same thrift stores and I thought the same thing... they are asking way too much money.
Those baskets can mold up really fast if any water touches them.
