  • It's time to move some inventory in bulk! we take a pile of cool antiques into a local auction house. But we get hit by a snowstorm that could drive people away from the sale!
Will we make some cash? or will it be a bust?
    see how we do!

I like the commentary on how much you think your items are worth before it goes to the auction block. It gives us as watchers a price to root for.

Pat Leslie he said one did but it was not to his liking so he passed. It didn’t reflect his values. They wanted him to argue with another actor and be someone he is not.

Thie is the best type of auction, one that has an online presense, thus an international or at least national bidding audience as well as the locals to keep the excitement up. My auctioneer says he gets roughly three times the money by having his auctions online rather than just local. Yes, it take more work and thus more people to pay, but it is worth it !!

I love the history of defunct amusement parks and roller coasters and collect vintage park items such as tin toys and old park/rides memorabilia. The Chein toys go at high bids if they are in good condition with vibrant original paint color and still work. Some of these toys date back to the late 1930’s. I found a 1938/40 Chein tin roller coaster that is in great condition and was at an auction for $500. I was able to talk the seller down to $400. The toy needs a new belt for the lift hill. But the cars still can run through the course. I also found a Chein carousel and Ferris wheel that were not as in good condition as the coaster. I know many other fellow enthusiasts in the States who collect these type of toys as well. So, buying these items is a bit competitive as the demand is high. It’s fun to collect but you need to know the history of the item you’re bidding on and the current condition of what it’s really worth. Finding a 1930’s-1950’s Chein amusement toy ride in good to great condition is rare.

Since you can deal with a little bigger items... here's something to keep your eyes open for, Hammond A3 and especially B3 organs, or any Hammonds with the built in Leslie speakers it will have a Leslie mark on it if it does have one of those, but mostly you want the free standing Leslie speaker. Even in rough condition, they bring prices you would not believe. In great condition... just the speaker can bring 10K or more. The B3 in top shape without a built in Leslie is only about 4K tops. Any with the built in Leslie, 6K to 10k is the general range if working. Half that if not. On the Hammonds with the built in Leslies, don't be surprised if you get asked to part it out. Don't, unless they pay full price, once the Leslie is gone the rest isn't worth but scrap price.
There is also a Baldwin piano to look for, something about interlocking key mechanism, but I'm no authority on those. However I know someone that is... as a former concert pianist, she knows her stuff... she was moving and had to choose between her Baldwn and her Steinway, she chose the Baldwin just because it plays so much better. I wouldn't pass on a cheap Steinway either, tho. all comes down to what the price is. Even old no name upright pianos can be worth something to somebody even if it's only scrap price... they have a ton (not really that much, but you'll think so when you try to lift it) of brass in them. Many people scrap the brass and if the body is in good shape, turn the cases into bars, a literal piano bar lol. Basically try to never overlook anything, IF the price is right. I have to deal with what I can store and ship, so I generally don't buy larger items. I found a Hammond with the built in Leslie once, so rather than buying it myself, I called a friend that could deal with it and let him get the super good deal... ten bucks for the whole thing... the speaker alone brings a couple grand at least. He had the trailer and dollys and all to move it and a place to keep it while waiting for it's fate, dismantling or being resold as is.
By the way, in case you haven't noticed, I write books... but yeah literally, I have about 30 Epublished and some regular published.

I've seen several B3s in the last couple of years. The local music store had one with a 5K price tag on it with the separate cabinet. There's a guy about 60 miles south of me that restores Hammonds and currently has a 1971 B3 in the local Craigslist for $5500.

You should shut down the store and just sell at the auction. lol It's hard to find auctions that sell stuff for that much or at least here in the U.S. I did clean out a house a few years ago for a lady that went to a nursing home. She had so much stuff that the auction did a special sell just for all the stuff she had. We did really well after fees from the auction we ended up make $74, 585. it was a lot of work but so worth it. She also had me sell her house for her. It was in rough shape very much like the one you are working on now plus it was in a bad area. I still managed to get $67,000 for it and she split the auction and the house with me 50/50 so it was worth all the time it took.

I enjoy watching your shows, I lived in Eastern North Dakota for about 55 years.
I had a 48 Packard woodie station sedan, bough tout of a Western Minnesota pasture about 1983, would love to buy the one you saw in the auto yard last summer/fall but impossible.....retired on Social Security in Northern Nevada so impossible.
BUT I also like old Fountain Pens and Pencils from about 1900 thru about 1965.
Got any Parkers, Wahls, Sheaffers, Moore, etc. I can't remember the name of the good Canadian fountain pen right now.
I might be about to afford a couple of them.

There are except from porcelaine also toys "Made in OCCUPIED Japan" (also "OJ"). This was from 1945 after WWII until 25. April 1952. It is generally an insult to the country, like "Occupied Germany" ("OG"). The items produced then are very collectible for some so take a close look when you read "Japan". Of course certain items are always collectible like Japanese pottery which was hardly ever signed. These often colourless and rare shapes can reach prices with six numbers. They look very much like what you found in the hoarders house you bought. Maybe that lady owned unsigned presents of the masters where she also took lessons. Is around the time she lived (Her daughter had a page in the internet).

say, I don't know if you know about Smith Miller / Smitty's Toys /MIC (all the same company may have one or all the names on the underside of the trucks They might be worth Ebaying if you ever find any. Even well used ones bring 500 or more USD. They can bring in the 1200 range. Now you do have to watch... there are some being made yet today from old parts... those will have a serial number on them so you can tell them apart, but they still bring about as much as the others, since after all they were made as parts back in the day, just not assembled. Sometimes just the parts to them bring decent money... but then you get into the rarity and whether or not somebody needs the particular part. Anyway, keep your eyes open for that brand. I hope that one you sold wasn't one.

I really enjoyed this. I haven been to only one auction...live, in-person. After winning something for more than I thought I had bid, and with someone after me bidding more (or so I thought),I'm a little afraid of auctions. Fortunately I only lost 10 dollars I hadn't planned on spending. It could have been worse. I like this format, though. The excitement of the live auction with the precision of real-time online bidding. I wish we had something like this near me.
