    I can support other comments on here because of experience. 5 times too many puffers, unless your into watching puffers tear each other apart. I have 5 dwarf yellow puffers. They are in a 50 (UK) gallon / 230 litre tank. There were 12, but war cut their numbers. I've had 5, now, for a 12 month with no issues. I've used 3 bigwood chunks with java fern on to break line of site. I've used small grade gravel as substrate. There are plants around and rock structures to provide hiding places. It's not difficult, and they have become great friends. I'm severely disabled, but use everything I have in feeding my friends. Great video, if a little incorrect, and your videos as a whole are awesome.
    Puffers are the best. We tend to make keeping them sound hard. It isn't. They are so friendly.

      With fish that stay pretty small such as pea puffers tank space is determined mostly by 2 things; agression and bio load. He's experienced and maintains tons of aquariums on the daily that being said he will do a water change when it's needed so bio load shouldn't be a concern, pea puffers in particular are aggressive fish but with all the plants they'll have no problem hissing if needed and in the situation where agression becomes a bad reoccurring problem he has the knowledge and resources in order to re locate some of the fish.

    Dude, you added WAY TOO MANY PUFFERS to that aquarium. Pea puffs are territorial, you KNOW they're territorial, yet you did it anyway as an experiment. Your tank should only have five to six puffs, tops.
    You gotta do better than this, man. Pea puffs are my absolute favorite freshwater fish, and my heart goes out to yours because they're going to be so, so stressed and unhealthy.

    Put 2 Filters into the syphon Head when cleaning sand :D
    First filter like Flywire Mesh or larger to allow sand and particles to all be picked up then about 4" up tub a 2nd filter that wont allow sand through, This will also block most of the debris, but creates a 4" pocket off all the nasties in the actual head.
    Then just cover with hand or something when removing.
    Works great can Vacuum sand right down to the glass.

      I had 4 in a 55 gallon community tank that was well scaped and planted. I had snails and ghost shrimp for them to hunt on top of feeding them crushed freeze dried krill, frozen blood worms, frozen brine shrimp, and freeze dried tubifex worms. I might have been able to add 2-4 more but 4 was right for me.

    • @Shaden0040
      @Shaden0040 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Which is why they keep circling the island. boredom. Nothing to explore and peak their interest. Way over stocked with uffers at most he should have 4-6, and ten he needs to plant this tank heavily. All puffers are very intelligent and need enrichment in their tanks. That tank is designed for Small tetras not pea puffers. They meed large driftwood to hide behind and under, lots of plants to hide and explore in and rocks to nibble algae and aufwuchs off of if they feel like it.

    • @shreyasacharya7699
      @shreyasacharya7699 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Murphylolz never buy just one of these guys there's always die off(however unethical that sounded)
      You can crush garlic up and add the juice to freeze dried stuff. When they absorb the garlic, make sure the puffers eat it. Garlic helps them eat more and I think it also helps remove parasites. I'd recommend chick peas too, but I'm not sure they'd eat them so

  • @Summer-zq8ot
    @Summer-zq8ot 7 ปีที่แล้ว +66

    ....no. This tank is way overstocked. The minimum should be 1 puff per 5 gallons, 1 puff per 10 being ideal As this is a 25 gallon, being generous and ignoring the small footprint, this tank is 300% stocked. There is little in this tank to break their line of sight, not to mention the footprint being too small for FIFTEEN puffers to set up their own territories. Eventually these territorial, aggressive animals, as they fight for space, will kill each other until only four or five remain. Don't be like this guy! Research your fish!

    Hey, I am a huge fan of this tanks setup and your channel. I'm really looking forward to seeing the update videos for this tank! I have a friend who set up a tank that was very close to this ones size. It was planted as well and he put 8 puffers in it.
    I was watching his tank one day and several of the puffers were fighting one puffer. As I'm watching the whole thing play out, the one jumped out of the tank and onto the carpet. I was standing right there so I picked it up and placed it back in the tank. It was looking like it was bitten by the other tank mates, and the one eventually died.
    Long story short in the end... there was only one puffer left!

    Do your research. Pea Puffers are like Betta fish and should be housed alone. Putting them together increases aggression and chances of diseases. They are gorgeous, but probably all dying by now.

    • @richardfaccio4291
      @richardfaccio4291 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Bettas don't need to be housed alone you just have to be careful with what you house with them...nothing that looks like them

    • @keithkogane6735
      @keithkogane6735 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Richie Faccio well, thats not entirely true. You cant put certain genders of fish together. Female bettas can go together, but males? nooooo way man, all of em will be dead.

    • @richardfaccio4291
      @richardfaccio4291 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keith Kogane i know that I meant male betas can be housed in a community tank as long as none of the fish look like a betta (and none are fin nippers but that isn't the point) i went with assumption that male Betta was what the original comment was referring to

    • @polkuio
      @polkuio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keith Kogane Female bettas do not go together. They may be able to handle tolerating one another for awhile, but even in the most ideal situations, bettas of any gender will stress each other out and attack one another when housed together. Keeping female bettas together is dangerous for them and could lead to all kinds of problems.

    Awesome! I have 1 dwarf puffer fish in a 5.5 gal. They are sooooo cute. Mine seems to be a really picky eater tho. Those ones look kinda big tho even tho they're only supposed to grow 1.5"ish. I thought mine was dying too when I first saw her sleeping because they can change darkness really quickly depending on their mood. I've read that they're a lot like female bettas tho with them being in a tank all together - territorial, establish hierarchy, fight, etc. That's why I only got 1.

    • @fbm_cristof
      @fbm_cristof 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chelakin my puffers only eat pigmy shrimp the female will only eat the eggs off of the shrimp she was on the verge of starving to death they both spit out bloodworms

    • @Chelakin
      @Chelakin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Criston Jedlick Have you tried feeding some snails, pond and bladder snails are different. They eat snails as big as they are, and mine doesn't eat the snails unless the snails are upside down like a bowl of food. When my puffer goes to bite and eat the snail she flips it over and then I have to flip it back over for her to eat it! Before I had snails I wiggled the bloodworms by the puffer and then sometimes she would eat it.

    • @nielswehrens8180
      @nielswehrens8180 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Paul Harris honestly i wouldn't stock to the max. Go for 3 and plant it heavily for the best effect. They have unique personalities, and you'l soon learn to distinguish them from another. They are also really messy eaters, so be sure to have enough filtration. Also, another problem people have had is that they don't eat regular flakes, so they'd have to feed them live snails. I myself get them on bloodworms asap and just throw in a few snails every second day. They need to have something hard in their diet to keep their teeth short, in my case snails, but shrimp or other inverts with hard shells would work as well

      SophiaGrace328 he’s got enough plants and rocks for the puffers. They won’t kill one another as long as there’s enough plants and growth for them to hide and isolate themselves from the group. They can travel in 4-5 but nothing larger. He’s done his research and is an advanced keeper. I’d suggest you do your research before commenting this. So they’re fine, they’ve got a lot of decoration to hide and it’s a big enough tank for that small of fish to make territories. They’ll be fine.

    • @sophiagrace3284
      @sophiagrace3284 7 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Em Wolf what video are you watching?? He trimmed the plant so much that they can’t get enough protection from it, the rocks are tightly stacked so it would be very hard and dangerous for them to try and hide in them, and he has way overstocked that small tank. Just because he’s been keeping fish for a long time and has a lot does not mean he’s advanced. You can stare at the sun for 100 years and tell people it’s blue, just because you’ve been doing it for so long does not mean you’re right.

    Love these guys, I have them in with South American puffers with no problems. One thing to note is that you do not need to worry about there teeth unlike other puffer species. Be careful if your tank gets ich, these puffers will show little to no signs of the disease until it's to late. The hardest part to maintain about these puffers is their diet, they will go through an infested tank of pond snails and ram horn snails within a few days.

    My dwarf puffer, that was with loads of others, was last man standing. I riskily put him/her in my community tank as "survival of the fittest" as I wanted to reuse the tank he was the only one in (yes I'm a bad person, sorry.)
    Still alive about 5 months later with some glass cats, tetra, female Bettas, Cory's, Otto's and a glass eel. Not a single fight observed. The Bettas flared and chased for a few days but now none of them care about the presence of the others. I'm amazed and know this is unusual!

      in my experience with keeping pea puffers, rather than absolutely chrushing the shell such as a figure-8 or GS puffer, they carefully aim and strike at the foot of the snails, leaving the shell virtually intact. never in my experience keeping these had I seen them destroy shells out right with thier mouths. But then again, i am only one person.

I heard the two species get along BUT my puffer is like a bull seeing red when it comes to the BB gobies. Might have to take them out before they're nipped to death. I thought the gobies would do a better job defending themselves given their reputation.
