Carpenter doesn't need to be compared to Hitchcock. He created his own style of terror. He's made some of the most memorable horror films of the 20th century.
I moved to the English Coast partly due to this movie. We have a sunken medieval village off shore and on certain foggy nights it is said by the locals, that if you listen, you can hear the ghostly submerged bells of the sunken church. We also have a famous devil dog who roams the area too. I absolutely love it!
As a child in the eighties, there was only 3 films that gave me chills , 1 the Omen 2 Salem's lot 3 the fog , All had not much gore ,But had an atmosphere, that made you draw your curtains ,and multi lock your door
The best ghost story movie ever. It's a great movie and scared the crap out of me when I saw it in the theater. I still have the VHS and DVD versions of the movie.
Why I love The Fog so much is because it's a classic Ghost story with real characters real people getting caught up in something so unexpected and terrifying that to me it's perfect and I'm not bothered what any snobby know all film critics might want to say to the contrary. Thank you John and the late gorgeous super talented Debra Hill ❤❤
Still love this movie watched it long ago when it was first released when I was much younger lol it truly scared me to pieces back then and still does to this day whenever its foggy out I always think of this movie and the scene with the fog rolling in I’m still scared on a foggy night this was and is one of the greatest movies made I loved it then and love it to this day I didn’t like the remake of the fog you can’t remake a true classic
Janet Leigh is right. These films are fascinating because they can be a most likeable way to be scared. The Fog probably earned my best respect for that when I first saw it as a kid.
Saw this movie the first time when i was 13. Now i'm in my mid 30s and i still get chills when i hear that piano theme... I think what makes this movie so special was the lack of commerical it had. I mean in compare to movies like Halloween, Nightmare of Elmstreet or Friday the 13., this movie still is a insiders tip imo. Plus it was way more of a ghoststory instead of a bloody slasher. You weren't scared of those ghost seamen cause they were killing people. You were scared cause you couldn't really see them. They were like those dark shaped figures you see in your sleep. Things you can't see scare you the most.
No way! I have never seen this. I am watching this tonight. I thought it was the Stephen king one?? That one is really dark, the ending is so crazy. But this, I am so stoked to see a new film, I love Carpenter. The Thing remains one of the finest films ever made. The Thing is probably the best horror movie ever made, it has everything good, tension, practical effects that are awe inspiring, yeah. Thanks for the video, I had no idea this existed! I confused it for another film for many decades, until today!
Every time I hear that the Blair Witch Project is scarier than John Carpenter's Halloween, I want to wretch. That movie is such a sham, the only reason it was scary, was because of the marketing of it as found footage and being real, and don't get me started on the acting.
Truly exceptional horror films - The Fog, Halloween, The Shining, 'Salem's Lot, The Exorcist, Sinister, The Nun, The Woman in Black and 1408 spring to mind - have a certain intangible element that you can't write, or photograph or generate on a computer. I can only describe it as 'atmosphere' - and it's what makes the difference between a good horror film and a truly exceptional one. Sadly, most modern 'horror' films rely too much on shock and gore and are, as such, entirely forgettable in my opinion.
When I saw The FOG I was fascinated by the Movie so I bought it to my collection of Scary Movies like I said I grew upbon scary movies got a collection which I enjoy every once & awhile even have that one Halloween the 1 through on up just loved ❤ them & watching passed on to my kids just playing around if they didn't listen I would say Chucky was Going yo get you oh they listened they were scared as they got older I showed them my scary movies they were into not scared any more cuz now they ve seen all that I have & love them their older now now on their own that leaves 1 my baby my youngest he enjoys my movies & gets scared once in awhile cyz I scare him just for laughs it's funny & Playful we sometimes make popcorn & drink cokes but it's been years I'm older much older in my 50+ but still enjoy my movies to look back on but love❤ them all & enjoy them memories of ol scary movies
One of the creepiest movies ever made. Thanks John Carpenter for scaring the you know what out of us! You set the bar very high for others to try and follow
Sorry Debra but Mad Max was the most successful independent film until The Blair Witch Project. 350 thousand budget and made just over 100 million dollars.
Carpenter doesn't need to be compared to Hitchcock. He created his own style of terror. He's made some of the most memorable horror films of the 20th century.
John Carpenter is the greatest. His 1995 film In The Mouth of Madness is so underrated. Love that film.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
And no one should be comparing (The Blair Witch Project) to anything John Carpenter has done
Halloween and the Fog are my two all time favorites. My boys and I watch them outside by a campfire every Haloween. We love them!!!
DITTO!! I've already watched HALLOWEEN about six times this month ! Nothing beats the classics. Not to mention the best soundtracks as well.
Fantastic cinematography from Dean Cundey.

The best ghost story movie ever. It's a great movie and scared the crap out of me when I saw it in the theater. I still have the VHS and DVD versions of the movie.
The changeling too! But the fog it's great 💪🏻
I think "The Fog" is Carpenter's most stylish and beautiful looking film.

I loved the movie then and I love the movie now, to me it is a classic and a perfect wee horror movie.
There is no such word as 'wee'.
There is in Scotland sir,:-)
A brilliant movie. A great story, well told. Perfect atmosphere created by Carpenters music and direction. It has aged very well too.
@@CitroenC407 John Carpenter's horror films can certainly age well thanks to his most unique and ingenious style with the genre.

One of my FAVORITE Movies! I had zero idea it came from Stonehenge 😮. Growing up around Bodega Ca its always neat to watch it.
"It was the projector fodder of the period."
Dean Cundey is the best. What a cool way to say "trendy".
Great behind the scenes look at one of my favourite ever films, thanks for posting ...
John Carpenter, Debra Hill, Legends.
when i was 6 this film scared the heck out of me as a kid as an adult still does a little
RIP Debra Hill
R.I.P. Debra.
Still so saddened by Debra's early death ❤

Stephen King movie is "The Mist". Way different movie 😊

my favorite john carpenter movie hands down
Still one of my favorite John Carpenter films. Probably just behind Halloween.
Janet Leigh!!!!!

Is there a way to get the KAB broadcast/playlist?
If I had to choose my favorite horror film this may just be it.
Does anyone know if the original cut is available to watch? It'd be interesting to see the improvements made in the final version.

Any Mortician fans? ".....what is thaaaat...."
Jamie Lee Curtis and men with knives, jeez.
Such a classic. One of my favourites. The remake was complete shitte, though.
Sorry Debra but Mad Max was the most successful independent film until The Blair Witch Project. 350 thousand budget and made just over 100 million dollars.
She probably meant American independent film?
The Blair Witch Project sucked ***
Thank you Film School
Man did that re-make suck compared to this.
Supposedly they're talking about doing a sequel.
