      That's right, the key is anti-HERO, he's still a hero, anti just denotes that he's not your standard paragon of righeousness, an anti-hero is still the hero at the end of the day. There is no one else who could have played Snake Plissken but Kurt Russell. I could not see Tommy Lee Jones playing him, he is just not intimidating at all. This movie would never have become a cult classic with Tommy Lee Jones as the main character. John Carpenter, the late Debra Hill, and Nick Castle brought this movie to life and it has stood the test of time as depicting the first anti-hero in motion pictures. I also have to say the soundtrack created by Carpenter for this film was pure brilliance.

  • @vincecommando7575
    @vincecommando7575 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    John Carpenter said got it right, anything made by people is severely open to becoming problematic. Perfection for all of us is nothing more than a point of view. Not many of us can comprehend everyone's different views of perfection. But there are various popular ideals that so many of us can grasp. Which many us these ideals as guidelines in our daily lives. Can we all unanimously agree with ideals? Of course not, mostly because so many of us highly value our individuality of separating ourselves from everyone else. The downside is so many people the world over do evil things that make the rest of us question our own freedom. Politicians love that cause those types of situations make us place so much faith and power with them. So ask yourself these questions here and now. How valuable is your freedom? Are willing to sacrifice your freedom for what politicians tell you is for the greater good of the world? After you answer those questions you will know who you are and what you stand for unapologetically.

    • @EQOAnostalgia
      @EQOAnostalgia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but he's dead wrong because Authority comes down from God. What we do here, and how we twist it is of little consequence, it's a God made construct. It's an objective reality.

    • @vincecommando7575
      @vincecommando7575 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EQOAnostalgia Even if that's is true. Don't trust those in positions of power too much. As we have seen lately so many people out there abuse their positions. All in the name of their own hidden agenda. Not all laws and rules are for our own well being. So many are designed to keep the general public down. Not to paint all of them with that brush. Just beware of authority and how much of a bearing it has in your life.

    QUESTIONS ABOUT ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK: 1. HOW did Snake Plisskan become so bitter? Is it because of his obvious injury? His war background? 2. WHAT did the cabbie and Maggie characters obviously do against the law to be put in New York? 3. WHY did Hauk send only one guy to find the president? Why didnt he send an entire undercover police squad? Wouldnt it make more sense to hire people who are loyal to him, rather than one guy who was forcibly hired?? The studio really wanted Charles Bronson to star as Snake and interestingly enough Charles Bronson would later do a very similair film-Death Wish 3-playing a lone vigilante/military veteran who gets recruited against his will by a powerful police official to infiltrate a rundown, seamy part of New York city.

      Last time I checked, laws against murder, rape, theft, etc is legislating morality. Humans make up rules to benefit society and other people. So your argument makes no sense. Legislating people to have equal rights, so they don’t get discriminated against, makes absolute sense.

      @@barryglenister792 yes, I've seen that footage, which was awesome. I just wish he would have included it in the movie, in addition to how some of the prisoners on the island knew or had heard of him.

    One of the worst pieces of B movie trash I ever saw. How and why this thing ever got made I'll never know.

      Most movies have some motivation or undertone that we may or may not agree with, but as long as it is a great movie 1st as opposed to prioritizing the public service announcement/soapbox angle, I have no problems with that. Escape from New York is definitely the former.

    It's a shockingly bad film

    That they didn't need to do a fake stage for the New York but filmed at an American city says a lot..
