@benharrischef Lord Flasheart really showed just how diverse Rik's acting range was. He went from playing a pathetic virgin loser who hit rock bottom in Bottom, and then played Flasheart who was the polar opposite in Blackadder, and both roles were played heavily convincingly. Great actor and entertainer.
I listened to Ade's autobiography, and it was deeply sad. Watching him cry when talking about Rik, and watching the emotion on his face when he recalls fond memories is even more sad. No matter how much we, the public, miss Rik, it will never compare to how much Ade misses Rik. I cannot imagine the fun they must have had just making Bottom, never mind all of the other stuff they did together. RIP Rik Mayall, you will be sorely missed until the end of time. Thanks to Ade, for his services to comedy, the crazy Viking bastard. And thank you Ade for being the cheese to Rik's onion. Lord knows the crap he must have put up with from Rik.

Bottom is the only show/comedy in history thats made me cry with laughter each episode. I'll never forget how much I laughed the first time I watched the camping episode and Richie's head went into the fire.
The camping trip was the very 1st one i ever saw, my buddy happened to catch the same show that night it was on. We happen to get chatting about Tv series and we got talking about it. I managed to get the series on Tapes at the time, then the live shows, ( scratch and sniff box set) i lent to him. He told me his family were roaring with laughter with the three live shows.

Here is a testament to you Rik, my kids are 11 and 12 and I catch them watching Bottom from the recordings I have from Gold. I brought them up on it. I watched it from 1991 at the age of 13 and if I can I am double sure they can. I’ve caught them belly laughing at the brilliance many a time. All of our love and respect to Rik, Ade and everyone that made this what it is, from the Browne’s ❤️

I was about 13 myself first watching The Young Ones in '82 - and my youngest daughter actually cried when Rik passed away (when she was 13!) because I bought Drop Dead Fred when she was little and it became her favourite childhood film. Classic comedy never dies. It may occasionally get twatted by a frying pan and jump out of a window - but new generations will still love it. 😊
I was born in 1990, and my dad watched Bottom all the time. To this day, it's still one of my favourite shows of all time and rewatch it quite regularly.
I was a fourteen year old German kid when I came across The Young Ones for the first time and it changed everything about what I thought humour was. Having said that Bottom is arguably better. I mean, it's Ade and Rik only, and it's got that desperate edge to their comedy. 'Slime in this ear, slime in that ear. Just. Stop. TALKING!'
I've revisited a few comedies from my youth and for the most part they have not aged that well. Except Bottom. I find it as funny now as I did back then. Knob-gags, alcohol abuse, and violence mixed with cutting banter. Timeless. Even my parents found it funny back in the day. The one on the Ferris wheel is perfection.

My brother a couple of years ago sent me a birthday card saying "from all the lads on the Ark Royal" and when I asked him one Xmas if he had brandy butter, he said "no, but I have vodka margarine". I would recommend anyone who likes this to listen to Ade's audiobook of his autobiography/memoir "Berserker". I remember hearing about Rik's passing on the radio when I was at work. I couldn't believe it and actually said out loud "Rik Mayall can't die".

It's sad that they never made that last series. I'd at least like to see them release the scripts as a book or something, just to see what might have been. I've always felt that Rik died of a broken heart. All he wanted was to do another show with his best friend and it was going to happen, but Ade didn't want to do it. At the same time, I don't want to blame Ade for saying no to something that he really didn't want to do, but it would have been nice to have that 1 final series.
So glad I found this documentary… still watch the series on dvd … sadly lost my original live show VHS .. now about £30 on second hand dvd .. (just looked on eBay) but worth it .. watched the VHS enough to remember the off script segments some of the funniest things ever .. used to watch the TV show in my teens with my mates… thank you both for the laughs ..

They got rid of free university education in the first year of my A-Levels. I got depressed after that. The only way I was going to get something like a university education without financial support was to switch to sciences and become a nurse. Paid a bursary every month. Huge regret. Burned out of nursing. Now am fucked with specialized skills that aren’t applicable to any non-healthcare jobs. I wish I’d gone to art school.
I never found the violence to be the funny part of " The Gasman Scene ". The real genius in that scene is, that after beating the gasman forever, there`s a knock on the door, Richard opens.......it`s The Police, who follows Richard into the living room......and the gasman is gone........in a few seconds ??? The Police leaves after a short while, and you`re left wondering, how Eddie managed to solve that crisis in such a short time span........where`s the gasman...?? Richard comes back in the living room...........praises Eddie, asks what he did with the gasman..........the camera pans up..............Eddie has gagged the gasman.....and taped him to the ceiling....it`s just absolutely hilarious..😆 Bottom.....like The Young Ones, is a Cartoon with living people.........R.I.P...Rik...❤

These guys made me cry with laughter as a kid. Wasn't always easy growing up, but these two were a big bright spot.

The only way I was going to get something like a university education without financial support was to switch to sciences and become a nurse. Paid a bursary every month.
Huge regret. Burned out of nursing. Now am fucked with specialized skills that aren’t applicable to any non-healthcare jobs.

I never found the violence to be the funny part of " The Gasman Scene ". The real genius in that scene is, that after beating the gasman forever, there`s a knock on the door, Richard opens.......it`s The Police, who follows Richard into the living room......and the gasman is gone........in a few seconds ???
The Police leaves after a short while, and you`re left wondering, how Eddie managed to solve that crisis in such a short time span........where`s the gasman...??
Richard comes back in the living room...........praises Eddie, asks what he did with the gasman..........the camera pans up..............Eddie has gagged the gasman.....and taped him to the ceiling....it`s just absolutely hilarious..😆 Bottom.....like The Young Ones, is a Cartoon with living people.........R.I.P...Rik...❤
