Hudson Hawk is probably my biggest guilty pleasure when it comes to cinema. If you've never seen it, go right now and don't just watch it, but experience it with your whole being.
This really felt like an old AVGN episode, I still remember the days of binge watching of the nerds so I can see someone beat a difficult classic game because I wouldnt dare touch said game.

Apparently their editors worked out this big promotion for both the movie and the game and they wanted to have it on their front cover. The end result was a low-res cut-out pic of Bruce Willis awkwardly standing on the right side the side of the cover next to headlines and thumbnails of other stories inside that particular issue. Electronic Gaming Monthly would later call it their worst cover ever, especially after both the movie and the game went on to flop hard.

Movie-licensed games brings that blend of James the movie nerd and the AVGN. I like it. The use of the clips give me Back to the Future and Wayne's World episodes vibes.
I love how much this feels like an older AVGN episode with the movie screenshots and clips interjecting. The jokes were also hilarious throughout, especially the advertising ones. James going strong after all these years.

That bottle break at 7:11 is really impressive and I'm not sure how he or his editor did it so smoothly. I'd ask Capt. Disillusion but he just recently published his one video for every three years.
Thanks! It's actually a really simple edit. I stood off camera, and took the beer out of James's hand while he stayed as still as possible. Then he did a reaction shot after I got out of frame. The bottle breaking is just a png of the bottle that I photoshopped out of his hand and used the shatter effect in AfterEffects on. Then it's just a matter of cutting the two shots together, adding a stock water splash effect, and tweeking the physics of the shatter effect
But the film failed at the box office: apparently the audience was waiting for an action movie, and they did not like the comedic direction of the film.

The movie itself wasn't bad it was a goofy type of comedy action film. But I've always enjoyed Bruce Willis films like the Die Hard movies, Pulp Fiction, Death Becomes Her, the Sixth Sense, the Last Boy Scout, and Fifth Element.
I had a ZX Spectrum back in the day and I remember the port of this game being pushed a lot on the magazines. Actually it's surprisingly close to the NES release...

The line about the hypothetical end screen to Contra actually made me laugh a bit. That hasn't happened when watching AVGN since probably.. 2012?

Oh my gosh! I was literally just about to pull up avgn to watch the ending of the winter sports games and I am greeted with notifications for a new avgn!

I started watching AVGN videos on Screwattack about 16 years ago. it's been a pleasure to 'grow up' alongside James
I absolutely adored the GB version of this game as a kid - had no idea it was a movie until I was a teenager, I was just happy to have a new game.
I discovered this on a 100 in one game cartridge I got from my aunt years ago.. I never tried to complete it, but I remember its kickass soundtrack :)

Hudson Hawk is the movie that introduced me to Cappucino. And boy did i have decades of fun drinking that, until i can't drink it anymore... Anyway, love the movie, part of childhood nostalgia.
