Just as Jim Davis will always be remembered for garfield, I hope James will always be remembered as the angry video game nerd.
Honestly I always hoped he'd be remembered for Board James. He got to flex a lot of his cinematic skills for that series!

Another fun Garfield fact: in "The Garfield Show" (2008-2016), he was voiced by Frank Welker who also voiced Ray in "The Real Ghostbusters".
I'm not saying he wasn't in the garfield show, he was in everything, he was just not garfield.

I used to play Garfield’s Scary Scavenger Hunt when I was a little kid and I’ve forgotten what it was called when I went looking for it years later. Never thought that AVGN would remind me of it over a decade later.
I loved playing that game too. It reminded me of Luigi's Mansion in a way.

The boss cats from 'A Week Of Garfield' on the Famicom are the alley cats from the 1983 TV special 'Garfield On The Town'. Highly recommend checking it out
I think that TV Special actually won an Emmy award. It was surprisingly heartwarming for a Garfield cartoon, and gave some backstory for him.

I actually like this simpler style more than the over acted ones from the 1/2 to 2/3 of the show's run. Something about the simplicity I just like. I think James seems to be healthier and enjoying it a bit more too.

When Bugs showed, probably the best slow head turning I have seen from the AVGN. It’s just so smooth.

Loved the funny face garfield made when he jumped in the first one. Cant believe they didnt use garfields snobby cousin, the animal trapper or the bulldog as bad guys for a game.
So...in a nutshell...Garfield is Ghostbusters is Mickey Mouse is Kid Klown is Bugs Bunny with Super Mario Bros. as the recommended game by TH-cam and Jon Arbuckle is the reincarnation of Jim Davis is the reincarnation of a pharaoh who just so happens to look like Jon Arbuckle...makes perfect sense to me. :3

That purple eyepatch cat boss is from the 1983 Garfield "Movie" called "Garfield on the Town". He was a member of the rival gang called "The Claws", you can see him behind the main antagonist in the final fight scene.

Hearing James talk about what he originally loved about Garfield and how it's moved away from that since then was fascinating. Flanderization almost inevitably happens to all long-running franchises. I have similar feelings about the Mario franchise now.
Imagine all the people named Bryan who watched this on their birthday.
Oh i can imagine it alright. If it was me, i'd assume they was actually saying the more commonly spelled "Brian", and check the transcript to confirm it, and then see that yes in fact he did say "Brian", so therefor definitely wasn't by some Christmas magic actually saying Happy Birthday to me at all, but to some other Brian who's name was spelled properly.
OK, let's imagine ... 1.5 million views, spread over the year means about how 4,000 people saw it on their birthday. About 0.5% of the US population is named Brian. That would make for roughly 20 people, but we can imagine that the number of Brians in the international audience would be significantly lower. So all in all, maybe just about below a dozen people. Easily imagined as a bunch of friendless nerds with birthday hats in a split screen reaction video.
Been watching since 2006, and still always happy having a nice surprise of a new episode every once in a while.
