I’ll admit, over the last couple years, I thought James was beginning to lose his touch and be a lot more family friendly. But this one brought him back. This one felt more like a classic AVGN. Thank you James, for all the great punnery.
It's funny, I thought about 2 or 3 days ago what James thought about other early classic NES games like Ice Climbers and Kid Icarus, so this is a real treat to me on top of another AVGN episode.
I think Kid Icarus big problem was it was meant to be part of a great trio but unlike the other 2 Nintendo never really gave it a legacy. Perhaps if they did release more games it'd be one of Nintendos legendary franchises rather then a small but respected one
I wonder what that would've been like. I can almost guarantee we wouldn't have Uprising, though, not if we're to believe butterfly theory and all that.

I love how we're learning Mythology from the Angry Video Game Nerd. Just what I needed.
Mythology and cosmology, two in one!
@@Sara3346 Fun Fact: This game was a big inspiration to Owlboy.
this felt like an old school AVGN episode. Best one in a long time! Keep it up :D
eh, it was okay... i guess. far from his classic work
@@videostash413 it was at least a tolerable simulation.
Thank you for another great episode, James. I hope all is well with you and your family. I hope the next episode isn't too far off from this one.
9:48 The angel on my shoulder reminding me of proper driving etiquette.
16:59 Somewhere Randy Marsh is saying you have Tergridy.
It's great to have you back, Nerd. Been watching since 2008. Really appreciate all you do.
I’ll admit, over the last couple years, I thought James was beginning to lose his touch and be a lot more family friendly. But this one brought him back. This one felt more like a classic AVGN. Thank you James, for all the great punnery.
What episodes did you watch that made you think he lost his touch?
@@raghavpatel720 pretty much all of them from 2019 to 2022
"...it would've burned out by now."
The ultimate poetic irony.
Kid Icarus was one of the games that turned me into a gamer. I loved that game so much
Nooooo! The original Zelda did! or in my case Zelda did!
I recommend OwlBoy
for me, Contra and Ninja Gaiden solidified my dedication to NES console gaming
😂 when Nerd hit the camera with the arrow, I lost it! 😂 😂😂
13:35 The Nerd finally took pen to paper, aging Justin’s extended theme song.
Kid Icarus is one of those games that I respected and loved, even though it didn't love me back. Though, the soundtrack is amazing to this day.
This is easily the best AVGN video in a while. Happy to see James is finding his flow again.
Interesting, I think it’s one of his worse. Like Hydlide episode. To each their own.
@@franwex I loved hydlide
@@franwex agreed lol earthbound was the last best one imo
@@franwex really? What about this episode was so bad in your opinion if I may ask? Also I didn't mind the hydlide episode myself shrug.
@@dollenrm i suppose that he kept going on on tangents rather than focusing on the game.
13:46
I love that he shoots the camera and leaves it in
This one is so hilarious, James! I was already laughing almost constantly, and but I had to pause the video during the Nerd Farms bit because I was laughing so hard! Seeing those glowing purple things from Metroid growing on vines was too much!

"I was in there so much, they named the place after me. 'Hos-Pit-Tal.' Get it? …It's funny. It's okay to laugh."
-Pit (Kid Icarus: Uprising)
I could never get past the third level as a kid. But in my late 30’s (a couple years ago), I looked up on TH-cam how to use the hidden skill point system and was able to beat the game in a couple days. I love the game, and appreciate it even more now that I can actually finish the game.
My cousin had kid iracus on gameboy. I tried playing it and it was hard. Then one day I saw him playing and he was OP af! He told me about farming hearts and getting powered up. Pretty cool to me as a little kid lol
"let me cure you of your eggplant curse" riveting
Fun Fact. You can use a Swedish password to get to the last stage. If you type DUVANS MAMMOR KOMMER BORTOT - It roughly translates as THE DOVE’S MOTHERS COMES AWAY. Not sure if it works on a NTSC cartridge. But it works on a Scandinavian PAL cartridge :)
Also, big thanks AVGN for bringing an amazing new episode
On closer inspection, you can only have one barrel, but it has a dozen potions - although the !number only goes up to 8. Also, beating the game in this state gives you the best ending.
Also, no credit card item for next game loop.
How awesome it is to see Mike's name in the credits. I don't know for how long, but its great to see them collaborating once again
I thought they had beef
@@solidsnake5773 to my knowledge, they didn't. Mike said back in 2020: "James and I are still great friends, I'm just taking a different path. I love live streaming and that's what I want to do."
@@solidsnake5773 I thought they had lettuce, tomato, and pickles
Kid Icarus may have had aspects that aged poorly, but I still think it is a great classic game and one of the most underappreciated games on the NES. Thankfully Kid Icarus Uprising on the 3DS was an amazing follow up.
It’s flawed but has a lot going for it
There was a sequel in the gameboy
Kid Icarus Uprising was my favorite game on 3DS. Bar none.
@@guilhermehank4938 curiously enough said Gameboy game of kid Icarus wasn't released in Japan until just a few years ago. Originally it was a Western only title. What's more baffling is that the artwork in the instruction booklet was in a manga style.
