DIY C8 Corvette DCT Filter Swap: Easy Steps!

  • In this video I am replacing the Dual Clutch Transmission filter on my 2021 C8 Corvette.
    The filter will be replaced later this Fall when I hit the 3 year mark and I will have the dealership replace the filter and transmission fluid along with a filter flush.
    This is a simple DIY if you just want to change the filter and dont want the transmission flush before replacing the filter. For example, if you are well past the recommended mileage for the first DCT filter change, its not recommended to perform the transmission flush right before the DCT filter change as this may over clog the filter. This is temporary, until I have the transmission serviced by the dealer in the Fall but just wanted the peace of mind of having a new filter for the summer.

    Nice camera work done on this video. HOWEVER, there is more that GM does prior to changing the transmission fluid filter. The transmission is put into a rapid recirculation mode with all solenoids open to flush debris into the old filter. I agree with you and changed my engine oil and oil filter myself prior to the 7500 mile recommended first oil change. But I will leave the transmission filter and fluid change at the intervals recommended by GM to GM, as I do not have the electronic equipment necessary to do a proper job.

      The hydraulic flush isn't needed. I posted another video on this.

      @@SerhansGarage It may not be “Needed”, but why not do a complete job as the transmission filter is not replaced very often?

      Okay - I just watched your video regarding what the GM engineers said about the transmission fluid flush and filter change. Very interesting and thank you!

    The good thing is they use an O-ring as opposed to a gasket so it’s kinda hard that it would ever leak

    I was thinking once you remove aluminum panel you could use a laser cutter to cut a hole under transmission filter, this way you don't have to remove all those bolts to replace transmission filter. Engine has a hole for filter why doesn't transmission filter , design flaw

    • @SerhansGarage

      That would be handy to have a cut out..the Engineers maybe thought it wasn't needed since the DCT filter is not changed as often

    THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. 👍
    My 2020 Stingray which I purchased used January of 2024 is close to 12,000km and I'm considering doing this myself.
    But after reading some of the comments it sounds like you would actually suggest that at this point I should bring it to a dealership and have them do the entire flush and oil change as well.
    Also if I attempt this at home I will have to manage it with reversing the car up onto a set of ramps in my garage since I don't have an actual car lift.
    The ramps worked just fine for my engine oil change , but do you think they would be okay for this transmission service? . Or should I just bite the bullet and bring it back to the Alberta dealership (Competition Chevrolet Stony Plain) and have them do the entire job?

    • @SerhansGarage

      @vidman999 I think the C8 requires the DCT to be changed at 3 years regardless of mileage so if yours is close to 3 years, change the fluid and filter at Same time. It's an easy DIY but I'm planning to have the dealer do the service to safeguard future DCT warranty claims. If you are wanting to change just the filter you will have enough access by reversing onto ramps

    • @vidman999
      @vidman999 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @SerhansGarage yes I'm sure that enough time has elapsed now that it's transmission oil needs to be changed as well. And with looking at videos about jacking the car up on one side or all of the trouble that it takes to get around that air cleaner box, I'm starting to think that this is getting well beyond my DIY capabilities. I'll just have to get a grip on my paranoia and accept the fact that maybe they WILL actually do the job correctly at the dealership.🙄

    Thanks for such a nice vid. One question; don’t you need to add some new fluid back to the DCT since some were leaked?

    • @SerhansGarage
      @SerhansGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you should add 2 ounces IF you have not topped up DCT fluid before. If you already topped up before (for tracking g purposes) it's not needed to top up for the lost fluid. I added 1 quart of DCT fluid - I have another video on how I topped up the DCT fluid.

    Great video. I would like to just change the transmission fluid on my C8. I can easily drain all fluid from drain plug on pan. Can I measure what came out and add this (new) entire amount through the fill plug under the air box. I never seen a video where more than 2 quarts are added from the top under the air box. Thank you.

      @Michael-k4n2r you can but if your wanting to add fluid from the top that os alot of work as tounhave to remove carpet liner and air box. Just drain and fill from the side fill until it starts dripping out

    Hello, I'm operating a Corvette c8 in Korea. my C8 currently driving a 2020 year. 41,000km,
    I replaced dct filter + mission oil at 30000km.
    I want to replace the dct filter because it's a replacement cycle, do I need to inject additional mission oil after replacing the filter? Or do I need to inject additional oil only when driving the track?

      You don't need to add additional 2 quarts of DCT fluid after replacing the filter but you should add a little bit to replace the fluid lost when you remove the filter cover, it's about 0.6 ounces.

    You didn't appear to do the DCT "flush procedure" that is supposed to be done before changing the DCT external filter. Or did you do it but know show it? If you didn't do it, you are not meeting the required maintenance procedures to maintain your warranty...

    • @SerhansGarage
      @SerhansGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am aware of the flush and I decided to wait till the Fall to have the dealer do the flush when the DCT fluid is due to be replaced at 3 years, regardless of mileage which I won't reach. The flush wasn't initially required but was added by GM so I can see why some are not aware of it. The DCT maintenance requirements on the C8 is the most confusing in the auto industry in my opinion. I addressed the flush in the description of the video but here it is:
