Fun Fact: Ringu was NOT the first adaptation; Ring: Kanzenban was. And it wasn't scary in the slightest, being much more of a supernatural thriller/mystery than a horror movie (plus it was made for TV). I guess it kinda shows that what might be scary in a novel won't necessarily be scary in a visual medium such as film. Either that, or good adaptations are actually pretty friggin hard to pull off (Ring (1998) and its American remake are AMAZING but I hesitate to call them "adaptations" considering how much is changed; in a way they seem to be a bit more like a reimagining).
If you read the book. It's not scary either. It's just unnerving/unsettling as they attempt to solve the mystery of the video. People literally just die of heart attacks and nothing at all is said of them seeing Sadako's ghost.
Actually The Ring Virus wasn't even intended to be make in the first place, the reason why it existed was because of South Korea's block of Ringu and it's material. Even after the block was removed, the crew is closed to finish it so they just still made it and bam. So I can say there's not much effort since it was just a placeholder/temporary replacement.
Well I always knew this version existed and I was always super interested as I figured a South Korean take on this idea would be pretty scary.... Disappointed to say the least but I'm glad I never put the effort in to try and find it lol. Thank you for the video!!
I think this one gets worse on the "lack of identity" when The Ring definitly took its art direction off from Virus' tape's aesthetics, i mean for real specially the last well shot legitmately looks like a badly focused version of Samara's own well shot also speaking of that:they really didnt care for the detail of ghost coming out of the well gradually huh? because while Ring and The Ring do that, Virus doesn't do that at all for some reason

I personally enjoyed this movie.

I think they should have simplefied the script a bit, and perhaps tried to add more horror.
Message thing.... hahaha
I absolutely loved this movie, I even find it better than the Japanese ones
It's kind of weird. Koreans usually are way more emotional and expressive than the Japanese, but in this case, this movie makes them robotic.

I thought this one had its moments I thought the first two acts were good I think it falls apart towards the end when they go to the island
Clearly Alexander Palm is a millennial not knowing what a pager is lol
