  • Fluoroquinolones (also called quinolones) pharmacology nursing review, including mnemonics, mechanism of action, NCLEX Review.
    Fluoroquinolones are a group of antibiotics that can target gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Some gram-negative it can target include H. influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia, E. coli, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa etc. And gram-positive includes Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterococcus, Staphylococcus aureus etc.

    Quinolones mechanism of action is bactericidal because it inhibits bacterial DNA replication. It does this by altering the function of the enzymes DNA gyrase and Topoisomerase IV.
    Fluoroquinolones can be identified by the "floxacin" ending in its generic name. For example, some Quinolones include Ciprofloxacin and Moxifloxacin.
    Nursing considerations are discussed in the video along with a mnemonic to help you remember those main concepts.

    Hey, everyone! Thanks for watching. Side Note: Quinolones (Ciprofloxacin) have been used up until 2007 for the treatment of Gonorrhea, but due to resistance the CDC recommends other antibiotic types. However, according to UCLA.edu "about 70% to 80% percent of gonorrhea infections in the United States could still be treated with ciprofloxacin". If you would like more information here is a great resource: newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/test-IDs-people-with-gonorrhea-for-antibiotic-treatment

    I decided to go to nursing school because of you. Whenever I search for something to help your videos always came up and I thank you. I was deciding whether to go to RT or ECHO Texh but I am now doing nursing. There are nurses that I work with told me you helped them get through nursing school.

      Omg!! That makes me feel so much better lol. I’m in LPN school now. I have 2 semesters left. And I’m always stressing like how will we remember all this stuff? So it feels good to know that we’re human and we all can forget stuff

    HI, juz want to say thank you because of ur vids I was able to pass my nclex 2 days ago. Until now I can't believe that I was able to make it becoz I finished at 75 items. Finished the exam for almost 1 hr and 30 mins, and then there was a survey after the exam and its all about new gen. Haha that is the most difficult part because I finished the survey for more than an hour and it is very tricky compared to the nclex we have right now. Anyway, thank you very much 🥰

      @haleyes98 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow! this isn’t the first time that I’ve heard that people who took the next gen sample questions disliked them! it’s so interesting to hear that! I’m in one of the first cohorts in April to take next gen, but I’ve been taught to test for both, and honestly the case studies make things SOOOOOO much easier for me. I feel like everything is very much in your face and clear cut because they do tend to provide you with a LOT of data that eliminates the “but what if…??” reading-into-the-question thing that can happen w/ traditional NCLEX questions (or at least, in my over-thinking, over-analyzing brain 😂). Plus, you get partial credit for SATAs!!! honestly a godsend. what specifically made it less appealing for you though?
