Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia that affects the brain. It leads to the gradual loss of cognitive, motor, and communication abilities.

There are various stages of Alzheimer's disease. These stages include: Preclinical Alzheimer's disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment, Mild Alzheimer's disease (Early Stage), Moderate Alzheimer's disease (Middle Stage), and Severe Alzheimer's disease (Late Stage).
The pathophysiology of this disease involves beta-amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, which leads to the impediment of communication between neurons, and eventually the death of these neurons. Note: there is some controversy right now over this theory, so our scientific understanding of the patho may change with more research.
Testing for Alzheimer's disease includes: cognitive assessments, mental evaluation, diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT, and amyloid PET scan), biomarkers (cerebrospinal fluid CSF assessment for amyloid and Tau protein), and a new blood test that assesses for these proteins.
Signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease includes: apraxia, aphasia, anomina, agnosia, wandering, Sundowner's Syndrome and more. Nursing interventions for Alzheimer's disease include the 7 M's (memory, movement, maximizing communication and more).

My mom just passed away from Alzheimer’s and I just wanted more in depth information about the disease that took her life. This video is the best, most complete information I have come across so far. Thank You for producing this video and in helping me understand what went wrong. My mom lived a good and long life although the last 20 years was challenging and confusing for all of us. I feel very lucky she was able to live to be 95. I know this disease can kill people even in their 50’s so I am grateful for her long life despite the handicaps in her later years.

Sarah, thank you so much for this valuable information. I am a Registered Practical Nurse here in Canada and I work with the elderly population. I see mainly females with Alzheimer's, and it's really sad seeing how some of them deteriorate fast or keep on 'walking' around the unit. Sometimes even meds can't seem to help.

This was incredibly helpful. Not only do I begin Nursing school this September but I am also the caregiver to my mom who suffers from Alzheimer’s. It’s incredibly sad to see. What’s worse is that her mom and grandmother also had it. 3 generations of women before me had Alzheimer’s. I’m terrified that my sister or I may be next. God I hope they find a cure or new treatment options.

My dad is stage 6+. He just had a really bad fall for the second time in a month. This last one he broke his hip really bad and got a GI bleed. They can’t operate because he’s too unstable (physically). I’m heading out there this week to say goodbye. He’s expected to leave this world in the next 1-2 weeks.

My great great great grandmother passed away from Alzheimer’s disease
My husband was diagnosed 9 yrs ago. He retired the following year. He is now 75 yrs old. He has been under doctors care for depression and severe adhd for over 20 years. Medication has kept the dementia symptoms at bay until last year. He his been agitated and paranoid , he had a blackout not loosing consciousness ,but not knowing what he was doing or why ,that caused an accident🎉 and his doctors pulled his driving license. He has been more forgetful, and has began to replete words and phrases over and over,it’ is constant, when he is awake, when he is eating and until he falls into a deep sleep. He is frustrated he can’t stop. He remembers me and the girls and grandkids. But can’t find a drill when he needs it. I know this Diane’s has layers and it’s not the same for everyone. I’m looking for information on better caring for him. We have 3 daughters ,two don’t live close enough to help often. Our oldest and her autistic son live with us,but that is a whole different challenge.. any suggestion would be wonderful.

Hi, my late mum got Alzeimers when she got to the age of her 80's and was still working in her business. I live a long way away from her, but when i used to phone her, i knew something was wrong because her memory was not good and it always was previously. I learned she had a really bad accident in her busines. She fell down the back stairs coming out of the loo. She was a very sprightly lady and always rushing. I want to know did he near fatal accident which affected the frontal lobe of her brain, her smashed in skull showed that the pressure on her brain would result in frontal lobe dementia within 3 years. She was not expected to recover from her injuries but did and went back to work for another 3 years. She passed away at 90 from 2 forms of dementia..frontal lobe and vascular dementia. She died in the nursing home she went when family could no longer cope with her..and was bedridden for 5 years and didnt know anyone. She developed both Cancer and had a stroke in the 5 years before she passed away..this is a very cruel and debiliating disease, and because of her ive decided to look up what she went through. So thank you for this video 😊

So, you cannot do a thing about it.
Thus put my in a so- called “ memory unit” and forget about me! Since I will not be aware of anything it makes it kinda silly that spouse or family member waste their time.
