It was. Rockstar Leeds fit a whole freakin GTA under 1.8GB on a *tiny* UMD disc. And then they did it again with VCS. And they were going to do it again with san andreas stories but it was cancelled. And now they're being relegated to being a content farm for GTA Online :/
@@fiercelypolygons3696Not getting a San Andreas Stories is so damn unfortunate. I understand that fitting the entire map in there would be impossible on a PSP, but I'd be perfectly fine with something like a Los Santos Stories with only that city Having an entire Stories trilogy on PSP would've been so damn good
I think this is somewhat unfair. It's not meant to be a follow-up to San Andreas, it's a GTA built from the ground up for a handheld device. Compared to GTA III, this is an objectively better game in many ways. More vehicles, voiced protagonist, more music, better aiming, more missions, clothing options, more/better weapons, etc. And you can actually traverse the city without your car being blown up from NPCs shooting at you on every corner. Also, did I mention this was a game on a handheld in 2005? THAT is what made it innovative.
It objectively had more content than gta3 for sure. gta3's missions were just more fun to me and I liked the story alot better. something to do with the lighting makes it have a way different vibe than 3. idk how else to put it other than you can tell it had a smaller team working on it it just doesn't have that same magic for me.
@Jon96101 The different vibe is probably because it's a game made with handheld limitations in mind (I feel like I've mentioned this before). This presented different challenges for the developers. As for story... neither III nor LCS have much of a story to begin with, so I feel like there's no clear winner there. Though the dialogue is clearly better written in LCS and the radio stations also have a higher production quality. ps: did you enjoy the mission where you had to throw a grenade through a window without any way of controlling the trajectory? I found replaying III more frustrating than fun tbh...
While not my favorite GTA I think it has the best Hip Hop radio station out of all GTAs, (so much better than GTA 4's hip hop station) idk i just love 90s east coast Hip Hop and this game nailed it.
I remember playing this game on psp and honestly I think it kinda fixed some of the issues that gta 3 had while having alot of stuff that was a downgrade to san andreas, not being able to recruit leone members was one of the features I kinda wish it had because throughout the story it made me think that the leones are just salvatore and toni

This was the first GTA I managed to beat so it's the most nostalgic for me. The only things I like more about GTA 3 are the soundtrack, and darker atmosphere.
I started playing it last Month and i have much fun with it. I really like GTA3 and this is just an Expansion to it. Btw. it is not as dark for me, maybe you have to adjust something (i am also playing on a PS2). Ah and it has better Textures compared to the PSP. Because of it, i am also playing GTA 4 and i would say, the Music in Liberty City Stories and GTA3 is better. Edit: Oh, i personally like the Outfits you can get. The Yellow Bruce Lee / Kill Bill is my Favourite and i had to laught when i got the Boxer Shorts for jumping off a Cliff and the Game told me to change my Pants. Edit2: Yes, the Rescue Salvatore Mission was hard, i used the Sniper to kill most of them when going in and when going out, i used some Granades to kill those being in the Corners.
It's an okay game really ? This game especially on the PSP is a huge step. The very first GTA in 3d to be portable with MORE content than The game it spins off from. Cut ideas from GTA III, freaking bikes, a new engine. Decent graphics. Multiplayer. Arguably the best physics in the 3D universe. A huge redesign of literally everything in a San Andreas like way and you find this just okay? Look it ain't no San Andreas and it was never meant to be. Given on what it came out, its freaking amazing. They start a series on a new weaker console with vice city logic and it's nothing short of awesome. Good theme song. Same with the lore all of that on a PSP and a new development team. I love this game. Put yourself in the zeitgeist of this game. Avoid ANY PORTS OF THIS GAME AND PLAY THE PSP VERSION. Better art direction better more coherent graphics BETTER FRAME RATES especially when running a digital PSN Version but even the UMD runs better than the PS2 version. The iOS Version has by far the worst textures Salvatore looks like a zombie Toshiko Kasen has a texture seam line on her face on PS2 and iOS but not on PSP. Missing animations galore fades to black. Broken Engine sounds with full seconds between gears when driving. Even your old ass mac could emulate that PSP version flawlessly use PPSSPP and try it I guaranty you will get a better experience. With some tinkering and hacks you can even add that twin stick feature from the PS2 version.
Bro's coming out and calling a portable game bland😭😭. Bro authentic full-on cinematic gta in a portable back in 2005 was actually a big deal. The previous gta handheld was the fucking gta advance game 😭😭. There's really nothing to complain about. Both the liberty city and vice City prequel stories are a solid set up and introduction to the characters and the world of the gta universe, and a huge fucking deal that they were portable games, this was portable games being at it's finest, rockstar definitely used the most of the hardware. Had such a blast with this and Vic Vance.
I sometimes replay LCS since i like the cars in this game. Besides that, there’s of a shit ton of plotholes. Like when the Yardies turn against you and when the Church missions pop up. Now according to the game files there was supposed to be some extra missions but this is like the 3rd or 4th GTA with most missions so imagine that… Besides that, a lot of the “okay-est” factor it’s the Vice City engine it’s in the game. Since EA brought renderware (the engine that was used in III, VC and SA) they created their “own” engine (using GTA VC). If you pay attention, Toni uses skinny CJ animations and the guns are mostly from Vice City. Oh, most important, there are Helicopters in the game. The height limit it’s the same as Vice City. Like i tell you, it’s a rebadged Vice City for the PSP. Lastly, you right. Flashback FM it’s my favorite but due to the commercials i go to Rise FM and Liberty Jam. Rise FM reminds me a lot of the Midnight Club II soundtrack.
This was my first gta ever on the ps2 and I was only 5 years old so I have a very deep connection to it for some reason even though it’s so basic. I can replay it a million times. It was the game that got me hooked on gaming and I spent hours and hours exploring the world it had to offer. It’s not the best but to me it’s special LOL
Back when the PSP was out this was incredible, it's sure is GTA III but with bikes and with a more charismatic psychopath ! But it was incredibly good to play it on a handheld but as an modern review you right the game have some issue still I think it's a great game ! Loved the review tho it's always nice to see critics on something you like
I wish they released the Stories games in HD, I love the environment of the old Liberty City, but I’m just not that crazy about 3 Also have lots of nostalgia playing this one. Still have it on PS2, but again, HD would bee so much better.
I remember playing this and getting stuck on the third ilsand mission were you need to plant things in a van, because it was that dark that I couldn't see there was a load of little walls in one area and kept getting stuck
i think while missions are pretty basic, the story of this game is where it excels. donald love also has some incredible voice acting lol all this on a PSP is pretty great, even if VCS, my favorite GTA of all time, did it all better. also this game has the hardest and most interesting ways to get to other islands early, which for me is very cool since i like to do as many side missions as possible at the very beginning (essentially like a starter save but more casual). the mobile version also looks really nice! that being said, i can't wait for your VCS video, and it better be as long and as awesome as the trilogy vids! ;)
Weird, the version your showing footage of looks closer to the PSP. What hardware is this? On my PS2 it runs great, high frame rate, and better draw distance than 3.
i disagree. i played this game for the first time a few months ago and went with the ps2 version. granted, i played it on pcsx2 so i suppose my experience was a lot better than on original hardware but i think it's a really solid game. obviously not as good as san andreas or vice city stories, but still very solid.
You might enjoy Vice City Stories a little bit more. It has a lot of criminal empire building. I thoroughly enjoyed its drug smuggling missions, and the burglary missions. But I don’t know if you’ll care too much about the story. Anyway, I love your videos. Cheers, man.
The story was pretty random in Gta Lcs. Vice City Stories had a proper story but sadly, it was veeeryyy short. Gta San Andreas story was like a movie. It had everything lol. Gta IV's story is literally nothing but sadness, frustration, depression & everything goes downhill type of story. A sad story of a war veteran turned into criminal.

You 100% experienced this exactly how i did, i played san andreas and saw this on the shelf for ps2 and bought it thinking it was a new game and i hated it, was so disappointed u til ages after i realised it was a psp game and was like ahhhh
As far as I know, this game was actually made on a modified GTA Vice City engine or something like that...
Yeah, there's no much more to say.
Ah, yeah. The radio songs are also pretty mid in my opinion.
...
That's all.
That was quick! Your videos are great!
You’re great!
5:01 idk i like the change in DL character here cause it shows us how he was like before the events of III. He fucked up with his business so bad, that he had to leave LC and probably met that Old man somewhere while he was gone and in III he became that DL we all know
I cant wait for the gta vcs video❤️🔥
4years imagine being 80 an still not seeing gta 6 released
“And frankly” 😂 I’m weak
You’ll probably really like Vice City Stories - I’d have to replay it to say for sure, but I think I like it slightly better than VC. The mission design is great and they learned some lessons from what didn’t work in LCS (most notably making the story more interesting)
This was the first GTA I managed to beat so it's the most nostalgic for me. The only things I like more about GTA 3 are the soundtrack, and darker atmosphere.
they did add one extra random fun side mission for the ps2 versions of the GTA Story's games
this game is all about the lore, it is made for the fans and it was awesome.
He's back! The king is back
I do what I can, you’re also the king 👑
This game is actually one of my favorites
I prefer it more than Vice City or Vice city stories maybe even more than 3 at times
The HD IPhone is sort of like a Remaster maybe a 10 year anniversary game with Controller support and outperforms the ppsspp emulator version
It shouldn't be an excuse for the bland story and bland characters ...easily the worst in the 3d gta games for me
this game has great radio stations. especially rise fm is a true gem.
You're not stealing boats in this game? Guess that makes sense. It is not called grand theft boat after all.
You sound like Lester from GTA V! 😂
Telling you at the time this was the greatest thing ever lol
I sometimes replay LCS since i like the cars in this game. Besides that, there’s of a shit ton of plotholes. Like when the Yardies turn against you and when the Church missions pop up. Now according to the game files there was supposed to be some extra missions but this is like the 3rd or 4th GTA with most missions so imagine that…
Besides that, a lot of the “okay-est” factor it’s the Vice City engine it’s in the game.
You got to remember that the Yardies are bastards, thay also betrayed Claude for no reason
Ditch the monotone. It ain't you.
it's an A.I. voice
@@bramkappert3327 No, uh, no it's not.
The monotone was a reflection of my lack of enthusiasm for the game, but I do appreciate the feedback my dog
This was my first GTA game to finish! I had a lot fun back then with friends via Multiplayer. VCS and CW was awesome also
Lmao I hate what TH-cam’s become this game is a classic. Definitely far from okay lol
Definitely prefer LCS over GTA III, but I’m also biased since I played LCS and VCS before any other GTA
GTA III was my first gta and LCS is better in every aspect pretty much tbh.
@@BigNateDoggOGit really is. I’m currently playing through LCS but it feels like it has more quality of life things added in too
Gta LCS was my first game & I am pretty biased. But all the other gta games except III are better than this game.
The writing was really funny , it was a good game
Back when the PSP was out this was incredible, it's sure is GTA III but with bikes and with a more charismatic psychopath !
But it was incredibly good to play it on a handheld but as an modern review you right the game have some issue still I think it's a great game !
Loved the review tho it's always nice to see critics on something you like
underrated channel
thx dog!
Search and rescue is a Cod gamemode
I wish they released the Stories games in HD, I love the environment of the old Liberty City, but I’m just not that crazy about 3
Also have lots of nostalgia playing this one. Still have it on PS2, but again, HD would bee so much better.
I remember playing this and getting stuck on the third ilsand mission were you need to plant things in a van, because it was that dark that I couldn't see there was a load of little walls in one area and kept getting stuck
oh you mentioned it, it's the one to blow up fort stanton lmao
Oi bruv! Have you played Bully?
i think while missions are pretty basic, the story of this game is where it excels. donald love also has some incredible voice acting lol
all this on a PSP is pretty great, even if VCS, my favorite GTA of all time, did it all better. also this game has the hardest and most interesting ways to get to other islands early, which for me is very cool since i like to do as many side missions as possible at the very beginning (essentially like a starter save but more casual). the mobile version also looks really nice!
that being said, i can't wait for your VCS video, and it better be as long and as awesome as the trilogy vids! ;)
Thanks man! I have a bit more to say about VCS so it’s gonna take a little longer but it’s gonna be hot
This game was fire..these missions are top 3 in the franchise honestly
I liked the part where Toni said "It's toning time!" And then Toni'd all over everyone definitely one of the games ever.
This game always felt more like a tech demo for the PSP in my opinion. Things didn’t get crazy until VCS a year later.
Weird, the version your showing footage of looks closer to the PSP.
What hardware is this? On my PS2 it runs great, high frame rate, and better draw distance than 3.
LCS is good for a psp game but not as a PS2 game
i disagree. i played this game for the first time a few months ago and went with the ps2 version. granted, i played it on pcsx2 so i suppose my experience was a lot better than on original hardware but i think it's a really solid game. obviously not as good as san andreas or vice city stories, but still very solid.
when i had a psp everyone at school asked me if i had gta on it
they made another msx fm for this game and it was amazing
This game was awesome Just because of Giorgio moerder
i played it when i was youmger i loved it more then gta 4 becuase you could actually move the analog stick. its actually a really good story too!
How some people put lcs over vcs will never make sense to me
Hey everybody look, I have no thoughts uploaded a new video!
That pc gaming take was some rage bait
You might enjoy Vice City Stories a little bit more. It has a lot of criminal empire building. I thoroughly enjoyed its drug smuggling missions, and the burglary missions. But I don’t know if you’ll care too much about the story.
Anyway, I love your videos. Cheers, man.
Thanks dog! Psyched to play it either way
Wrong words. MUCH more
The story was pretty random in Gta Lcs.
You can free aim by pressing R1 + L3 (or R + down for PSP), same goes for VCS
