I feel like the reason why its underrated despite being a little better than lcs was because when lcs was released on psp it was groundbreaking, but as time went on around 2007/2008 most people around that time were excited for gta 4 which made vcs forgotten due to the ps2 at the end of it's life cycle, i had a great time with it even with it's flaws.
2022 war beginning in Kyiv caught me spending LOTS of time indoors during weekend-long curfews, blackouts and air raids. how did I survive? PC port of LCS and emulated PSP port of VCS. Completing them during the toughest time imaginable - on a platform that was not intended for that - will forever be special.
Me too, even if they didn't look or perform as good as on PC, the nostalgia is so strong that it makes you retrieve the old PS2/PS3 and play one of the older titles on an autumn/winter evening.
Hell yeah! Was looking forward to this one, and I stand by my reddit comment. One thing about the PSP games is that visuals do affect the difficulty - the brighter, more saturated colors on the PSP made Bringing the House Down and Boomshine Blowout much easier because you could actually see what you were doing. The PS2 versions also didn't run as well as the PSP ones and that's true to this day, most speed runners use the PSP versions. I definitely get how you feel about the cops, VCS cops are a bit worse then the other games and it gets really old really fast 5 games in a row. Have you thought about doing GTA Chinatown Wars at some point? Definitely worth it. Thanks for going over the Stories games, they don't often get the respect the others do.
The most underrated and one of the best Grand Theft Auto’s ever. As much as I love the original Vice City because not only was it my first GTA game ever, but because it was inspired by Scarface and Ray Liotta voices the protagonist, but the VCS story and gameplay was so much superior. I honestly really really like and sympathize Vic Vance.

In Vice City Story's defense, GTA has always been a satirical take on American politics and culture, so Vic having to do all kinds of sketchy stuff just to pay for his brother's asthma treatment works way better as a parody of the American healthcare system than if he had a more serious condition in my opinion. Him having to turn to a life of crime to pay for cancer treatment is just, well, normal America, but having to do that for some damn inhalers is more in line with GTA's scathing commentary on life in America (and also still kinda just normal America as well, but you get my point), it being ridiculous is almost definitely the point.
VCS did indeed feel outdated when I played it on PS2 back in 2007. Also the wrighting feels like an odd half way point between laid back Vice City and gritty GTA4. Still a solid game and I return to it every few years.

Yeah plus it references some stuff that later became a part of GTA IV and V lore (Release Gum, eCola, etc). Kinda like a testbed for a future game (like GTA Online is theorized to be).

Almost a decade ago I actually *did* play through the entire 3D era of GTA games in chronological order instead of release order, and it was honestly kind of a mistake. The biggest issue is that you start with the newest game (Vice City Stories), and end with the oldest game (GTA III), so the mechanics are just all over the place throughout since you're playing a game from 2006, then a game from 2002, then 2004, 2005, and capping it all off with a game from 2001. This order made GTA Vice City and *ESPECIALLY* GTA III feel extremely underwhelming since I played each one only *after* I had played its respective prequel with far more mechanics. By the time I had gotten to GTA III, I was just ready to be done with it and play GTA IV. According to the date codes on my old save files, I only played GTA III for four days before completing it. Anyway, now I'm playing through all of the GTA games again in anticipation for GTA VI, but with two differences. For starters, I'm actually playing each game to 100% this time instead of just the stories, and the second even more important thing is that I'm playing them in release order this time. So far I've 100%ed GTA III (PS2 version), and I have a much stronger appreciation for the game than I ever did before, mainly because I have no recent memories of newer GTA games to compare it to. I'm maybe a week out from 100%ing Vice City (PS2 version), and the same thing holds true for this one. It's so much better than I gave it credit for the last time I played it. I'll see how I feel about San Andreas on this upcoming playthrough, but I can already tell that it's going to be the peak of the 3D era, just like it was the last time I played all of them. Poor Liberty City Stories can't catch a break because you always play it after San Andreas, whether you're going in chronological or release order. Maybe I really should play through the games in that order you showed in this video, where you play GTA III, Vice City, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and then finally San Andreas. Regardless, I had an excellent time watching through all of your GTA videos so far and I'm super excited to see what's next. I've never seen someone who has such a 1:1 view on the series as I do (although I definitely liked GTA III more, and I absolutely thing that Vice City Stories has the best soundtrack in video games lol).
Currently playing through this on psp and I can say that this game is 100% underrated I rarely heard anything about this game growing up from friends or strangers this game is really great
Bro the timeline of VCS was in the 80's. The money back in the old days were expensive as heck. The amount of money that is looked so down upon in modern time was the most expensive shit back in those days.
So excited for the GTA 4 video as it’s my favourite of the series. Niko Bellic and Arthur Morgan are my two favorite protagonists in all of gaming and GTA 4 is able to replicate my favorite crime films the best out of any game. Love the atmosphere.
I bought the PSP version of this game at a used games store recently and this was the only GTA I hadn't played yet. Playing this game years after I had finished all the previous ones made me nostalgic for the old controls and graphics of these PS2 games. I already owned the PSP version of LCS since the late 2000s so I was used to the controls. I found this game challenging but not frustratingly diffucult(defending my businesses was the only frustrating part), but I can see why you got frustrated with the mission design and controls after playing all 5 of these games in a row. That was not the case for me though, I enjoyed the challenge and had a lot of fun with this game. One great thing about having this on the PSP is that I can just pick it up and play for 10 mins while I'm working and drive around listening to the music. I can even pause the game in the middle of the mission, turn it off and go do something else, and come back a few hours later and immediately resume from right where I left off.
When i got my psp i wanted a gta on it so i got vice city stories thinking it was vice city. I finished this game about 6 times on my psp and your video really took me back i loved this video... Last year i emulated it on ppsspp to finish it one last time and do the final mission with the blue suit u get after completing all the empire missions. I always wanted it as a kid anyways i really enjoyed your lcs video too please don't stop rewiewing the games
You know if it was not for the PS2 version randomly running at about 10fps in certain areas or during gunfights I would argue this is a pretty decent game.

I played this through probably 3 times back in the day and tbh, i dont remember the other island AT ALL. Vice City was primarily on the first island but VC stories was mainly on the island with the stadium
Ive played every Gta of the 3D and HD era. Only finished 4 and 5 no dlc. Crazy looking back and seeing these games like "damn i really didnt know Vice city had a forklift mission"😮?
If you ever revisit Vice City, I highly recommend checking out the ReViced mod. It adds a lot of cut content back to the game but more importantly has a ton of quality of life improvements that make the game feel as smooth as San Andreas, both in terms of graphics and gameplay. It kinda helps make the game feel like tedious like these 3D GTA games can get
We could've had a VCS port to PC with the reverse engineering efforts before the Definitive Edition came out. Sadly, Rockstar seems to have no interest in moving this to modern consoles and when extremely talented fans tried by reverse engineering the game... they sued them. It also used to be purchasable through the PS3's "classics" online store (ps2 emulation on ps3) but that's long gone too. RIP.

I CANT BELIEVE IT. I always thought it was Vice City I played on the PSP 17 years ago, but it turns out it was this game! I even found the old game package not too long ago. I played VCS not Vice City which is why it looked so familiar!
Yes. Nostalgia plays a huge role but this game deserved so much more recognition, and be released on other platforms. But in a way, it stays a PlayStation exclusive ✨ untouched, never remastered, never messed with ❤
Great video, I played my copy of VCS through some unofficial PC modded copy. Basically just emulated the PSP version for PC with Keyboard / Mouse support.
Interesting that you diddnt touch on the fact that the hand to hand combat is surprisingly deep. You can grab people, throw them, and snap their necks. This is literally the only GTA you can do this in. Very underrated GTA game.

If Gta VCS was released in PC or mobile, it would have gained so much popularity. It could have defeated Vice City as well. This game has a lot to offer compared to Gta Vice City. Not even Gta IV allows you buy different houses or businesses. Also this is the last Gta 3D game that allows you to recruit your own crime family members.
31:12 I played the 3D era in chronological order but it's kinda meh, playing vc straight after vcs is great, but then you get to san andreas and it feels like a different universe, going from sa to lcs kinda works because you already got to know salvatore and going from lcs to 3 works too but it kinda feels depressing. I jumped to the conclusion that you have to play 3-vc-sa in these orders because vc references 3 and sa references both 3 and vc, lcs has to be played after 3 and vc but not necessairly after sa, vcs can be played whenever I tried 3-vc-lcs-vcs-sa for gameplay as you said and it's a much better experience, but by the time you get to sa you completely forgot about claude and catalina, for story it's slightly better to play vcs-3-vc-lcs-sa

I just wanna say - your manner of speech, the way you talking about video games and your voice really reminds me of my friend from the high school days. He was genuinely intellectual and funny, but when we've been talking about video games, mostly when I was putting out my PSP, he was kinda of out of touch on the topic. For example, I know that you probably did that on comedic purpose - confusing Super Mario Odyssey with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but my bro's ways of speaking on video games similar to that, because he really wasn't into gaming at all, aside of playing some of the games on he's pre teen days (1-6 grades, before I moved to he's school). Basically, your videos was some sort of a wayback machine to the days, when me and my bro has been playing these old GTA games for the first time, and discussing them at the school. And I just wanna thank you for that 🥲. These days, me and him are rarely contacting each other, because we leaving in different countries and busy with struggling our adult lives. I really wish they would port this game to mobile like they did with all the originals, CTW and LCS, and even the definitive editions of all the originals, and Bully and Max Payne, but sadly they never will. This game gets no love. I thought it was pretty good, and it's a GTA game, so it deserves some love.

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with your review completely. You keep comparing this like it was a game design for PlayStation 2 when it wasn’t it was simply ported there to make more money. GTA, vice city stories and liberty city stories were way ahead of its time for coming out in the early 2000s portable. You’re clearly much younger than me and don’t understand how the gaming industry was back then. It was considered magic that only a few years after the games are on Consol where they somehow re-built for portable systems. I can assure you as someone who was around 11 years old. When this came out, you were not expecting to be playing San Andreas on the go.

I’m just simply disagreeing with you, because yes it would’ve felt out of date if it was for PS3 but it was designed specifically, and only to be for the PSP and then with the generally good and positive cells it was ported over to the PS2 later. I am saying for a PSP game it’s magic how good it worked and vice city stories by the majority of the fan base is basically the best mechanics of the GTA 3-D universe. Yes it had some downsides and it was lacking what AAA games were coming out in 2007. But for a 2006 PSP game it’s bloody brilliant and crazy that we even had it. I mean, I will be honest I have a soft spot for the PSP games as both of them are the first GTA games I ever beat. But they did a lot of things that even San Andreas didn’t do. Like when you’re in your safe house, they could’ve easily just blocked it off, but they have the windows open so you can see the world moving around you again that wasn’t done again until GTA four on the 360.

You know if it was not for the PS2 version randomly running at about 10fps in certain areas or during gunfights I would argue this is a pretty decent game.

My Personal Favorite 3D Universe Game of all time (despite the Hella Hard Missions), Polices Chases just as Brutal as GTA III, A *better* Antagonist than it's Predecessor, Swimming, Playing a Sport that was last after SA, Asset Properties, and Gang Warfare😫🙌
Vice City Stories should've gotten San Andreas's Level of Popularity imo (Especially including a Real Life Celebrity)... and it wasn't a just a 100% Copied Pasted III, VC, and LCS... it was Unique enough for my Taste💯

I played this through probably 3 times back in the day and tbh, i dont remember the other island AT ALL. Vice City was primarily on the first island but VC stories was mainly on the island with the stadium
Ive played every Gta of the 3D and HD era. Only finished 4 and 5 no dlc. Crazy looking back and seeing these games like "damn i really didnt know Vice city had a forklift mission"😮?

If you ever revisit Vice City, I highly recommend checking out the ReViced mod. It adds a lot of cut content back to the game but more importantly has a ton of quality of life improvements that make the game feel as smooth as San Andreas, both in terms of graphics and gameplay. It kinda helps make the game feel like tedious like these 3D GTA games can get

We could've had a VCS port to PC with the reverse engineering efforts before the Definitive Edition came out. Sadly, Rockstar seems to have no interest in moving this to modern consoles and when extremely talented fans tried by reverse engineering the game... they sued them. It also used to be purchasable through the PS3's "classics" online store (ps2 emulation on ps3) but that's long gone too. RIP.

I CANT BELIEVE IT. I always thought it was Vice City I played on the PSP 17 years ago, but it turns out it was this game! I even found the old game package not too long ago. I played VCS not Vice City which is why it looked so familiar!

Great video, I played my copy of VCS through some unofficial PC modded copy. Basically just emulated the PSP version for PC with Keyboard / Mouse support.

Interesting that you diddnt touch on the fact that the hand to hand combat is surprisingly deep. You can grab people, throw them, and snap their necks. This is literally the only GTA you can do this in. Very underrated GTA game.

If Gta VCS was released in PC or mobile, it would have gained so much popularity. It could have defeated Vice City as well. This game has a lot to offer compared to Gta Vice City. Not even Gta IV allows you buy different houses or businesses.
Also this is the last Gta 3D game that allows you to recruit your own crime family members.
31:12 I played the 3D era in chronological order but it's kinda meh, playing vc straight after vcs is great, but then you get to san andreas and it feels like a different universe, going from sa to lcs kinda works because you already got to know salvatore and going from lcs to 3 works too but it kinda feels depressing.
I jumped to the conclusion that you have to play 3-vc-sa in these orders because vc references 3 and sa references both 3 and vc, lcs has to be played after 3 and vc but not necessairly after sa, vcs can be played whenever
I tried 3-vc-lcs-vcs-sa for gameplay as you said and it's a much better experience, but by the time you get to sa you completely forgot about claude and catalina, for story it's slightly better to play vcs-3-vc-lcs-sa
Totally, would find it so hard to go back to 3 after vcs from a gameplay perspective tho. Thanks for watching my channel friend

I just wanna say - your manner of speech, the way you talking about video games and your voice really reminds me of my friend from the high school days. He was genuinely intellectual and funny, but when we've been talking about video games, mostly when I was putting out my PSP, he was kinda of out of touch on the topic. For example, I know that you probably did that on comedic purpose - confusing Super Mario Odyssey with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but my bro's ways of speaking on video games similar to that, because he really wasn't into gaming at all, aside of playing some of the games on he's pre teen days (1-6 grades, before I moved to he's school). Basically, your videos was some sort of a wayback machine to the days, when me and my bro has been playing these old GTA games for the first time, and discussing them at the school. And I just wanna thank you for that 🥲. These days, me and him are rarely contacting each other, because we leaving in different countries and busy with struggling our adult lives. But I did leave him a link to your channel, when we've been able to talk last month. And now, we both looking forward to your next videos.

I really wish they would port this game to mobile like they did with all the originals, CTW and LCS, and even the definitive editions of all the originals, and Bully and Max Payne, but sadly they never will. Yeah its understantable nobody in 2007 would care but by now we should be able to look at it in a more objective way. We did that with other games like Street Fighter 3rd Strike and Earthbound

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with your review completely. You keep comparing this like it was a game design for PlayStation 2 when it wasn’t it was simply ported there to make more money.
GTA, vice city stories and liberty city stories were way ahead of its time for coming out in the early 2000s portable.
You’re clearly much younger than me and don’t understand how the gaming industry was back then.
It was considered magic that only a few years after the games are on Consol where they somehow re-built for portable systems.
I can assure you as someone who was around 11 years old. When this came out, you were not expecting to be playing San Andreas on the go.
I was 9 when the game came out so yeah no way for me to understand 🤷♂️

Your review and general lack of understanding the game in your review, made it sound like you were some GenZ who is in high school now going back and playing a game from 15 years ago.
That’s what I’m saying reviews are very opinion base which is fine but you’re focused on your review filling out a date even bringing up things like for the time.
I’m just simply disagreeing with you, because yes it would’ve felt out of date if it was for PS3 but it was designed specifically, and only to be for the PSP and then with the generally good and positive cells it was ported over to the PS2 later.
I am saying for a PSP game it’s magic how good it worked and vice city stories by the majority of the fan base is basically the best mechanics of the GTA 3-D universe.
It had the most satisfying empire building out of the entire franchise, including the modern games, it was the only GTA game in the 3-D space that you could swim beside San Andreas and it had the most vehicles besides that game.
Yes it had some downsides and it was lacking what AAA games were coming out in 2007.
But for a 2006 PSP game it’s bloody brilliant and crazy that we even had it. I mean, I will be honest I have a soft spot for the PSP games as both of them are the first GTA games I ever beat.
But they did a lot of things that even San Andreas didn’t do.
Like when you’re in your safe house, they could’ve easily just blocked it off, but they have the windows open so you can see the world moving around you again that wasn’t done again until GTA four on the 360.
If I was Rockstar I would have changed it so Pete was the one who was killed at the beginning VC and Vic moved away from the city
