After giving my younger brother my Note9 from 2018 I missed the phone and six weeks ago I began looking online for another Note9. I lucked out with my selection in that it arrived in as-new condition. The experience of 'unboxing' my like-new Note9 512GB in Ocean Blue was like traveling back in time several years. Pretty exciting. I'd almost forgotten the snappy yellow S-Pen that complements the blue color of the phone. Still very fast and solid plus it downloaded an update after I'd had it on for a day.

@Vernon Lee Warren The 512GB/8GB seemed the way to go back in the Summer of 2018. It was a big deal for me to have so much native storage _and_ memory expansion; something we've seen lost these past two years.
The Note9 remains a solid 'tank' of a phone. It's a novelty to be privileged to use it on my second line and give my Note10 Plus a rest. I just remembered how Verizon gave me a runaround when pre-orders shipped in late-summer '18. That's a long story but I eventually did receive it. My brother regards the one I gave him as the best phone he's ever had. Best wishes.

I bought it a week ago for $200 on amazon. I previously had the Note 8 but I decided to upgrade and got the Note 9. I'd say the Note 9 is definitely worth it in 2023 especially considering that you can get it for as cheap as $200.

Still the best Note in the series.
Funny story: A few years ago, my brother upgraded from the Note 9 to the Galaxy S20 FE. Fast forward to now, his S20FE screen recently cracked, and he put his SIM card back in the Note 9, only his battery on the Note was not great anymore. He asked me what he should do, repair the screen on the S20FE which costs $200 or replace the Note battery which cost $100. Admittingly, he missed using the S-Pen and actually uses it. So I pretty much guided him to go get the battery repair on the Note -- it may be "old" compared to the FE, but he got more value, more features, more audio options, more storage options and more function back. On top of that, the battery replacement being cheaper, no brainer.
He couldn't be more happier now. If he eventually were to replace the screen on his S20FE, at least he could for now use the device as a flash storage, or just plug it in the TV for DeX, even though the Note 9 can do that too.

      $100 for a battery repair???

    • @lilPopper
      @lilPopper 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@bennybouken it will probably be cheaper now given the Note 9 is old. But you have to consider the repair shop's prices, including the labor and time, the difficulty of accessing the battery, etc. And at the time, my brother needed something to stay connected to.

thank you for making this video. I have had note 9 512gb since launch and love mine. I had a minor crack in screen glass and stuck with it for some time. i eventually took it in to att to have screen replaced. when i came back to pick up my device the tech said he "accidentally" broke my phone. It doesnt even power on now, so idk what he did to it but i wasnt happy. they told me they were gonna ship me a s22 ultra 512gb. I went along with it because I had on other choice really. I order another Note 9 512gb on amazon the next day. I may end up keeping the s22 ultra as a backup phone or I might just sell it while its still worth more now rather than wait. I just dont like that the s22 ultra dosent have a headphone jack or expandable memory. I feel the same as you about it. i dont plan on buy a new samsung unless they come back with those 2 features. Those where the reason why i switch over to samsung to begin with. anyway, great review, God bless.

@@suprxmefire9497 The Note 8 was my first ever Samsung Smartphone after half a decade of using only iPhones then switching to Android on a OnePlus One back in 2014. Got the Note 8 in 2017, then in August this year, after almost 6 years, it just died on me out of nowhere. Longest I've ever had a Smartphone as a daily driver, and I simply can't settle for anything less versatile. The Note 9 is so far the only true upgrade in all aspects, and I'm enjoying the 512GB Dual SIM varient (with a 1TB MicroSD card) even more than I did my Note 8.

Latest Android 13 upgrade ruined my Note 20 Ultra. Random call issues. Sometimes unable to end calls. For some incoming calls the phone will be ringing even after I answer the call. Samsung has sent an update but still did not fix the issue. Finally fed up with it and went back to my trustworthy Note 9. First thing I to hit me was the build quality. Note 9 is probably Samsung's best designed phone especially the camera. The headphone jack is also a breath of fresh air. No worries about dongles not working. Thanks for the video.

@@knightking2036 The good thing is not all Note 20 Ultras are affected by Android 13 update bugs. My wife's Ultra seems to be working fine but its not guaranteed. This is why I always believe that major software feature updates are overrated. With security updates Android can work for many years with no issues thanks to the way the Play Store is designed. It should just be like LTS support in Linux.

I was in the market for a backup for my S22. And i did some searching and like the features the Note 9 has that galaxy phones now no longer have such as the headphone jack, the fingerprint sensor, I like being able to check my oxygen with the oxygen sensor wirh my health conditions. Plus the display is still gorgeous.
I ordered a refurbished metallic copper note 9. I wanted that specific color because st least at time of release, it was not available in the states. I did my research and made sure it was compatible with LTE service here from Verizon and it is. Tested my sim card and it worked right away.
For $218 after tax, i feel it was very much worth that. Its not going to take the kind of pictures my S22 does , but it will more than suffice in a pinch, and I got it as a back up phone anyway in event of needing to send my s22 for repair or replacement. The camera was never a factor in my decision to buy or not buy this phone.

Call me crazy but I'm contemplating picking back up the note 9 and getting rid of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

If you're crazy then I am too. I have both phones and often find myself switching my SIM card from my Note 20 Ultra or one of my other phones back into my Note 9. Especially when I just want everything to work the way it's supposed to with no unexpected glitches (it has extremely stable Android 10).

Thank you! Maybe the battery is bad. It annoys me that you can't buy really new batteries for old phones. They are often used as well

It's a very old device. That's probably the reason you can't find new batteries for it

Wait. Are you sure about the ability to take a 1TB SD card? I thought the max the phone could accept was 512GB.

You may be right on that. I may have gotten it mixed up with the note 10+

I've got a note 9 (exynos - boo!) And it takes a 1tb card no problems

Wait but this phone doesn't even have double tap to wake. I have a note 9 but it doesn't have this basic feature...

I'll take a headphone jack and a physical fingerprint sensor over double tap wake any day
