    The first lady that asked the question about the political instability of Sudan, she needs to understand that China is in Africa for economic partnership ONLY. They are staying out of Africa's politics by treating Africans like human beings who can handle their own issues and problems. Unlike the West, where they assassinated democratically elected leaders and appointed dictators that will work with their exploitation of the land. Also, keep in mind that Africa was carved up by Europeans who had no respect for sovereign boarders created by the indigenous populations in Africa. Thus creating conflicts and strife that has continued to this day in many parts of Africa. Although most Africans are living in harmony with each other now.
    China itself is a newly developed country and has every right like any country to seek out economic partnership with countries that have natural resources that it doesn't have. No country can grow on its own. China had the investment of the USA and now they own the USA. I call that brilliant strategy! As an Ethiopian, ever since we have become partners with China, our economy has skyrocketed making us one of the fastest growing economies in Africa, period! While the West gave us false aid, China gave us investment. That is the difference between treating humans like children vs. like adults. The West is just pissed off that they are losing their main source of income, Africa, to China. Keep your disgusting food aid! We prefer infrastructures to produce our own food. Because Africa isn't poor when it comes to natural resources. I support 100% China and Africa relations!!!!

    I had a argument with my brother this morning on the role of China in Africa.He is in South Africa and I am in Canada.Stop I told him.Stop the crap about Africa's resources. Of what use is the copper in Zambia without the nead to produce copper cables to conduct electricity.For instance Uranium was useless before the discovery of atomic energy. Neither was there ant talk about rare earth minerals before the development of modern electronics.Stop talking noncence.The minerals of Africa only become of consequence because of the tremendous technical and scientific advances of the twentieth century.

    what africa needs to do is have countries to invest in making there agriculture sector top notch. By farmers farming the largest pieces of land with the latest seed tek and then having the most effiecient cheap means to get it to market. The capitol gained would introduce huge sums of new money that would allow africa to build its other sectors. In this way no one could exploit africa because it would build the sectors by itself. Witch means the continent would grow far stronger since everything would be self owned.

    A wise man once said: "A house divided cannot stand!". Africa is a continent of 26 fragmented nations each with different problems, until you have a a united continent where there is one leadership/government that can agree on policies for the whole of the continent, there will always be this problem lack of cohesion and transparency between Africa and countries that would like to invest and do business in Africa. I think this is the first thing that needs to be implemented. This is my opinion.

    I would argue that mutual benefits between countries involved is call trade, not exploitation. Building infra-structure for transportations is a key milestone in the development of a country.

  • @jacarandaization

    Oh? But when the British ruled India as a colony, they built the Great Indian Peninsular Railway, the forerunner of today's Indian Central Railway. That was an infrastructure project that certainly helped 'overall development' and therefore disproves your point. Of course, the British were exploitative as well. But you seem to be suggesting that if one builds infrastructure then exploitation is forgivable. Don't you think the Japanese would have argued similarly in Manchuria / Manchukuo?

    • @ErenYega747
      @ErenYega747 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya, fact is, both China and Japan never had anyone build railroads and infrastructure for them and they've still been able to do it and even make bullet trains. The infrastructure argument as British help presupposes that Indian people wouldn't ever be able to do that. That supposed insight is worth investigating when an argument like that is made for other things relating to colonialism

    Even the more self professed liberal and open minded westerners see Africa as kind of a land of the noble savage. They are against development because it might change their image of Africa as a continent of happy people living in mud huts with sunny accents. It is a wholly patronising attitude. 'culture', like some museum artifact, is fetishised. Just go to the museum of natural history in New York and that is how westerners are taught about other cultures. Being well traveled, I cringe at those exhibits. I say let the Africans decide what they want for themselves. It's about time the west ceased their patronising attitudes towards the continent. That's the only way Africa will be able to participate in the modern world as equal partners. The fact this debate even happened proves there is a ways to go yet. I for one cannot imagine this debate occurring in China - a debate about whether the west should invest in Africa.. The arrogance is embarrassing.

    Fact is, the West had all the time, energy, resources, and universities to make themselves better option and they didn't do it. Really they just didn't. It's been decades the West had been so rich and only in brief flash periods they made some agreements like China have done now here and there and the thing is for this to happen ultimately comes down to this, it was not a priority. Not a priority - a lost cause - no matter how much we help it's fruitless. Now, *now*, people started caring. I don't think even if China does trade and the spook permeates the underlying sentiment will still exist. In fact, the fact that this video is 11 years old and nothing substantial in approach happened to allay their supposed concerns they had with the situation back then proves that the underlying lack of will still remains. The general consensus seems to be that it's a foregone conclusion no political will can exist in the West to do what China does back then that it's doing right now. I felt it's constructive back when this issue was broached when it first came about; now its been a decade. Evidently I was the fool to think back then to expect the parity the news highlights as an issue to be addressed would be addressed. It's not been happening. It seems like another decade just like any other before where leaders and will seem just non existent with only brief flashes when the news says something and then it's on to the next story. I call this phenomena the Kony principle. Iykyk

    I can see people comments who has Chinese origin (USA, AUS, CAN, UK,etc...) but to say China the best country to contribute wealth to Africa is too early. USA/Europe ignored African infra devlpmnt unless some geo-projects where oil and gas were found. China is helping the infrasts to those countries and it's good. However the point is: Africans majority needs the Chinese way of developments there? No, I don't think they want, as George Ayittey said. And Africa is a continent, not a country.

    If I say that today's China uses similar arguments to Imperial Britain / Japan, it does not mean that the comparison is workable at all levels. But it is instructive to realise that the old argument regarding infrastructure ("We built a road, so we are good") is not a new one. That justification is insuffient. As for the will of the local population in Africa, one cannot suppose that it is represented by the politicans who strike the deals. Come on, you don't need me to tell you that.

    Africa has too many Chiefs and not enough indians. It has the most versatile and eccentric culture. European Imperialism and supremacist afflictions has led individual African leaders to develop a consensus behavior seperated from each other. And that behavior is to first look towards the security of their own individual desires. Which is to attempt to become economically competitive and up to speed in the world arena and ultimately to become a power great enough to be reckoned with.
    African ambitions are nothing short of typical human nature. The question is which leaders have a healthy mind to lead the African people and which have the mind to manipulate their people. The actions of foreign powers only should be measured by the mental health of African leadership. Africans are not naive. That is a poor and eurocentric ideal that cripples the comprehension of many enthusiasts.
