      The Nobel Prize Committee needs to check with the US first on who to give it to. Sweden is now in NATO!

    • @stefflus08

      @@Time4Peace Sweden doesn't have anything to do with the peace prize.
      And the norwegian government doesn't have any influence on who gets it. I guarantee you they would stop the prize to Xiaobo if they could, because that led to 10 years of poor relations with China.
      But @yangdai9101 , people get the prize based on what they do, not what they say (except Obama, that was a poor attempt at ending the Afghanistan war)

      @skt1731 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He is mostly right on the real and present danger of a nuclear war over Ukraine, a completely avoidable provocation of Russia by the US led NATO. But his assessment of China as some benign peaceful civilization is wrong. How could he possibly ignore the egregious oppression and occupation of the vast lands of the most peaceful Tibetans and Uyghurs by the violent Mao and CCP. He claims to be for the basic principles of human rights in international order. Beyond threats to Hong Kong and Taiwan, the greedy expansionist Chinese have long running and aggressive territorial disputes with India, Vietnam, the Philippines .. unease over borders even with its supposed allies North Korea and Russia. The Chinese violate every norm of intellectual property, steal technology, manipulate their currency, heavily subsidize every industry, dump cheap goods abroad (to destroy local producers) and on and on.
      Does he not know that if the Arabs and the Islamists had the military power they would swallow all the Jews and wipe out Israel (from the river to the sea) in no time? How can he ignore the fact that Israel, though not perfect, is the only democratic country in the entire middle east region. Yes, the atrocity in Gaza are painful, but what choice did IDF had in the wake of Oct 7 and continuing existential threats and hostility from neighboring countries, You cannot fight wars by tying hands of your soldiers, especially when the civilians hide and feed the barbaric Islamic terrorists.

      @ The west loves to resort to name calling, like “dictatorship”, or “communism” or “terrorist state”, intended to create fear or negativity.
      You call it “dictatorship”, while China calls it an effective way of governing 1.4 billion people. Such government system (centralized system, which the west loves to label it as dictatorship) has been working extremely well for China for over 20 centuries and worked effectively too. But, the most important thing is that China had never forcibly imposed its ideology and governance methodology upon other countries.

      I am astounded that some of these students are at a top notch university and haven’t yet developed enough critical skills to question the intentions of the U.S. or their own government. That student appeared dumbfounded by the idea that the U.S. doesn’t really care about democracy. This Anglophone perception that UK/Europe or US should intervene in other “less developed” nations is quite a display of a supremacist and colonial mentality.

      @@visible1313-g9s So...they managed to move, incarcerate, and kill millions of Uyghurs, all during a period when Xinjiang is open to domestic and international tourism! Not one survivor came out to tell people the truth (the only Uyghurs or Chinese that appeared on Western media were either unidentified or had never been to Xinjiang). Not one police or local people came out to expose the atrocity. Not one Muslim nation has criticized China, after many independent investigations all found zero evidence of ethnic cleansing or genocide. There has been no major ethnic conflict between Han and Uyghurs in Xinjiang ever since 1949, except for a few terrorist attacks (of which both Uyghurs and Han Chinese were victims). And where is the outcome of genocide? I thought genocide means entire groups are wiped out from existence. But you can literally see Uyghurs in every major Chinese city! Not to mention that here on TH-cam you will find video taken by ordinary people from all over the world showing that the Uyghurs (and other native minorities) as well as their cultures alive and well in Xinjiang and other provinces in China. If this isn't enough to convince you that the Xinjiang narrative is just another phony excuse Prof. Saches talked about (only that this one failed miserably because it is soooooo far from truth)...

    I've always had time for Mr. Sachs. Articulate and humble, he is exactly the kind of individual we need to inspire the young. Following on from his opening statements, I recall an equally compelling remark I heard in a lecture some years ago: "When applied to humanity, social Darwinism can be seen to have had a catastrophic effect."

    I’ve listened to Jeffrey Sachs for the past two years now, as I believe he is one of the few who has a sane outlook on this planet (John Mearsheimer falls short on this when it comes to China).
    He sounds absolutely stressed right now. Our leaders in the West are the worst smh
