I collect the more specialised ON Cloud shoes and I never used the Cloudultra v1 on the heavy trails rather I interchange this the Ultra with the Monster for daily use including driving my manual truck and urban exploration and air travel. I'm conflicted between these two even for urban use. For light hikes, I've brought both in addition to the Cloudventure Waterproof and I'll have to say Cloudultra is just a better all rounder. Cant wait for Ultra v2 in more White or wish they will have a Sensa edition.
Great review. I have version 1 and while I loved the responsive cushion once they broke in ~50k they are actually lethal on wet surfaces here in Ireland, completely unusable. Has the grip improved or are you just in the wrong place at the wrong time to test in the wet?
Hey Brian, I’m in the right place at the right time 😜 but yes unfortunately no rain here for a while in California! As soon as the rain returns ill test them in the wet! But 50% more surface area is always going to help with traction.
@@trailandkale Thanks, Alastair. If the wet grip has improved I would run all day in them, and yes, of course, you are in the right place at the right time 😁
Literally just ordered the same ones you tested....correct me if Im mistaken but are you running without socks? They are that comfortable and stable with the sewn in sock? I have not been able to find them in stock anywhere so I ordered them and a pair of stratus since I already own stratus and they are comfortable for me. Im not a runner due to health but do spend alot of time on my feet and truly believe your reviews are very well done. I appreciate your thoroughness.
Thanks so much! I am wearing socks, they’re just low tab :) you’re going to love these in the ways you mention for their support, comfort and grip! Enjoy! :)
How responsive are these? Do they feel sluggish at all? (ON lists these as Max Cushioning) How do you think they'd behave on steep, technical uphills at fast speeds?
They’re responsive. I think I talked about their climbing ability and speed in this video. Otherwise I mention it here: www.trailandkale.com/gear/on-cloudultra-2-review/
I'm enjoying the video. Is the size of Cloud Monster and Ultra 2 similar? Do I need to go with the same size? Or do I need an Ultrane size-up? Thank you.
Knowledgeable and insightful video, thanks! Would the cloudultra 2 be a good “general/daily use” shoe? Looking for an ultra comfortable weekend shoe that’ll handle anything from walking trips, city use, to work around the house.
I don’t see why not, I use mine for walking as well as trail running. The cloudsurfer 7 however is more cushioned and my be a better fit for your uses: www.trailandkale.com/gear/on-cloudsurfer-review/
@@trailandkale awesome, thanks so much for your quick reply. I tried on the surfer’s, but feel like I would need a little more traction when off pavement. Thanks again!!
Are the good for decent hiking shoes? I have hiking boots but need hiking shoes for hotter days. My feet a very narrow and difficult to find good all terrain shoes for me. Solomons etc tried on so many!!
I have the cloudultra 1's and as much as i appreciate the cushioning and feel, the outside of my pinky toe rubs to the point where i've built a callus. Really starts to hurt on long runs. hoping this one doesn't have this issue.

How do they size compared to the Cloudultra 1 ? I was very surprised when buying my first pair, having to pick 1 size bigger than what I usually wear. Is it the same here ?
@@trailandkale Purchased, and while they are good shoes with grip, however for mixed concrete and hiking use the grip looks like it is wearing down rather quickly (50 miles of use), and the forefoot cushion blew out pretty quickly, I've subsequently damaged my forefoot and have stopped wearing these while it heals.

@Iamandthatiam On’s trail/road hybrid is the cloudsurfer trail which is highly cushioned and very dreamy to step into. Depending on Your weight you may feel like they lack stability however. How do they size compared to the Cloudultra 1 ? I was very surprised when buying my first pair, having to pick 1 size bigger than what I usually wear. Is it the same here ?
The sizing is consistent with the Cloudultra 1. I’m surprised you had to size up. They’re true to size for me compared to most other running shoes
@trailandkale I had to go 1.5 size up, great shoe I did 30km 6 days a week for 5 months with my first pair
The Cloudultra was hard geting into, how is the second one ?
It’s easier thanks to a wider lacing system and that knit upper
Hows the fit? Still running narrow? I'm a 13 with regular width but feet swell after long days, Ultraboosts start to feel tight..size up?
It’s not narrow, definitely wider than the first. Fits true to size, go with your usual.
