Just got into trail running and I went with the Salomon Thundercross and I'm really impressed with them so far. Took them out on a 14 mile 1,341' elev gain trail run and they performed amazing.
I'd argue the Norvan LD3 is a sleeper hit of a shoe. Reminiscent of the Salomon Genesis, but with normal laces and better outsole grip/durability. The Sylan just didn't fit my foot well, sadly, so I've stuck with the Norvan LD3.
@@scottupton8661 LD3 is very similar to the Ultraglides. Fit didn't work for me though, too loose in the midfoot. Zegama 2 for me is the best in this class of 'trail cruiser shoe'.
Thanks for this great comparison video/review! Hate to see the dog constrained on a leash, though :-( Let him run in the woods and chase the squirrels. Then you BOTH can have fun.
@MEMcAndrews there’s always some asshole dog off leash (not Kepler), that makes it hard for me to protect Kepler when he’s not near me. On the really quite trails he’s off leash with me
Need to get hold of the Speed Ultra to test. The Zinal 2 is great too but not quite at the MTL Long Sky 2 Matryx level yet, maybe v3 will get a more rugged outsole and improved stability.

I'm truly surprised by the love for the Tecton X3 here. As a person who has raced and run in the Tecton X2 since it came out, the X3 was a huge disappointment. The upper materials feel cheap and have such little structure compared to the X2. So while the Peba midsole and the fantastically updated Vibram outsole seem like winners, the upper just isn't doing it for me in the X3. No wonder Jim Walmsley, Vincent Bouillard, and Hayden Hawks have all been racing their biggest races in the X2.5 instead.
A version with the gaiter would be so much better and more runners would benefit from it. I wouldn’t say the MATRYX upper feels cheap, not in the slightest. I also enjoyed the Tecton X 2 but the outsole just wasn’t aggressive enough so it’s nice they improved that. Still, I’d choose the MTL Long Sky 2 Matryx over this for my speedy trail racing.

That’s awesome! Helen really enjoyed her pair also! I think her review shows it too! :)
Tecton x3 wrecked my ankle with rubbing at the transition from upper and gaiter .. I was bummed!!!
Gah I knew it would affect some runners! Glad I called that out in my review. Thanks for sharing
Didn't know actery'x was putting out solid trail running shoes. Will take a look. Good info!
Yeah they’re on it over there! The Norvan SL 3 was pretty good too! ✌🏼

@scottupton8661 not tried the LD3 yet..

Still need to get a pair to test, thanks for the reminder!

Thank you! He’s not allowed on some of these trails unfortunately..
Not allowed off leash should I say
@@trailandkale if he’s well behaved, ignore the rules.

I bought the Adidas Soulstride Ultra and I really like them.
They’re solid trail running shoes! 👌🏼 did you catch my review on them yet?
Terrex Speed Ultra long stuff, Zinal 2 for shorter races… lots of variables to consider.

What about metafuji??
Unfortunately I haven’t reviewed them yet so can’t comment. I’ll try and get hold of a pair

*Without the gaiter
