I agree, motivation starts with discipline. Discipline is a muscle. You don't get it without getting started and getting practice.

Very true. As a perfectionist I would like to add, if you try and make those 18 minutes perfect it WILL burn you out and make it harder to put in the time consistently. Don't think about the outcome. Just try. Only focus on the act of trying. This mentality has changed my life for the better, hope it helps anyone else too.

I am a writer. I am writing poetry atm and I have been writing poetry for twenty years. I am self taught, I only started studying poetry recently.
In my opinion, self compassion is crucial in order to archieve consistency because the process is not linear, evolution. I think three movements are key: doing it proper, just doing it and thinking about/planning.
So some days I would write like a proper poet (going through as mucho technical aspects I can), other days I would just write whatever, and other days I would think about my processo, about what I did, plans to improve, etc.
Now using running as an analogy, I could run proper (like athletes do, searching how they train their muscles, their breathing, how they stretch), I could just run, and I could plan/learn (routes I could try to incorporate running to some errands, research about posture/high impact vs low impact/ blablabla, etc). And then I would dedicate some days to one of the three, and only one.
Self compassion is required when we start to feel stuck, when the result fails to meet the expectation. When we casually chat about it with someone else and we start comparing. When we do it wrong somehow and then we start believing "of course we did it wrong we are forever dummy" which is a lie. We push ourselves but then we pull ourselves into a hug, otherwise we burn out.

You're right. I want to be a great guitarist but I'm always so inconsistent and thus I don't move far no matter how much time passes. I already started playing everyday, but I will keep it consistent no matter how I feel. I don't have to come up with great melodies every single day, don't have to even sound good while playing every time I play. Just keep playing, just keep training, just keep it going. As a matter of fact, I'll get to playing right now even though I already played today for a few minutes.

I never have time limits for my work, instead I always have a target of an amount of stuff I want to do. It depends on my motivation, but I always try to do a little bit every day for my *personal* goals, whether it ranges from studying a few pages to studying 40. Just show up every day. And if I have extra motivation, that's cool, and I will take advantage of that. Besides that, I have my more rigid obligations for work, university, extracurriculars, etc. But it's nice to have a personal project besides all of that to feel like I am actually developing myself. Btw ur gorgeous.

if we do something that we really love doing, motivation comes pretty easily. I feel like a lot of people, are not honest with themselves. a lot of us are working jobs we don't really like doing. they are more interested in the reward, the promotion, the salary, rather than the act, the job itself. a few failures and they lose the momentum and then the excuses come in. when we do what we love, the reward is constant and therefore, the motivation is also constant, the promotion, the salary raise is secondary.

But there is only one thing that is stopping me, coz u use the f word a couple of times... and my students are still schoolers... so now I do not really know if it is worth doing the video demonstration. I’ve heard this philosophy before. But it goes against Wu Wei. I’m wondering how we can push ourselves to do things when our body is telling us no from being exhausted and dopamine depleted, which is a yin state that requires stillness and replenishment. I find when I push through things constantly I get sick, strained, stressed, overwhelmed, irritable, and miserable. So what would you or anyone else who encourages this forceful pushing and straining against feeling like doing things, say to that? It can actually feel damaging. Am I incorrect?

The 18 minute thing, or the 100 hour thing may work for some, and that's AWESOME! More power to You if it works for You! But that just doesn't work for me, because everything I do: writing screenplays, writing journals, playing guitar, playing piano, reading and re-reading my favorite books over and over and over again. Drawing and writing stories for my own cartoons. Taking cold showers. Reading my bible. Going for walks, and long ones. Walk all day at times. But I don't do that stuff because of any "bad habit." I don't do that stuff because I'm breaking one, or that I'm trying to become an expert at it. No. I do these things because it's fun. Doing it to become an expert would bum the fun out for me. If I happen to become an expert and grow albert Einstein hair, Fan-flubby-tastic! But I don't want that. Fun comes first for me. Everything else are just things I stumble upon. :)

Very good video. I think of motivation the same way, based on my experiences. It can be fleeting, whether or not I may 'feel' like working on what I need to. Like for example, I'm supposed to be doing active marketing for my business but I'm doing research on product design.... which is funny because I'm literally typing in the comment section of a video that has nothing to do with either. Well, this just got awkward. 🤣🤣😂😂 But hey! the difference is, I will get it done and most people won't, which is fine for now.

  • @Exod365

If it has a definition and it defines a parameter then it exists. Your will acts upon your ability to self-motivate. Since everything we are made of is electrical and chemical then motivation is based on the reward your brain receives from satisfaction or disgust therefore the reward is motivation and it is a force that acts upon you So it is real. Movement from an object being stagnant to being in motion is based upon vacuum not gravity. Gravity acts upon us making us slow down and stop and because of burning our energy fighting gravity. Among other things So while I would agree with what you say I'd also have to really disagree. As stupid as crazy as that sounds

sweetheart you may be right but you are to logical and being logical in this world is a curse. Partial motivation indeed drives you and fades , but what if you create an extreme motivation that is always on ? Doesnt that negate motivation itself and makes it a zero? It does in another way and thats the "easiest" way that nobody manages because they have partial motivation. It is as if life itself , existance motivates you (which is infinite) there is nothing else , no room at all to be motivated about. So it is completion and nothingness at the same time.. a beautiful girl telling me motivation is useless? Hell ya i am on ! i like that ur smart . At least on that regard you figured out the first step or baby step. And no pain is not power itself i wont watch the video but wrong title ) neither love is overwhelming by itself. But it can be.

At first, it sounded as though you were dropping pearls here and a lot of what you had to say WAS sound but it should be noted that it's hardly fair to flippantly push the narrative that emotions can just be cast aside nor is it anything more than a sanctimonious generalization to call it 'just an excuse' if and when someone is held back. I certainly realize that if a person is truly desirous of something, they WILL make it happen if they haven't already but still - situations are relative. I d'know.... Maybe I'm just being contrarian.
