    I like to think Cochrane almost immediately understood the significance of the Enterprise when he saw her through the telescope. It could have been anything...except he saw his own warp theory and design in the ship, even though it was 300 years ahead. Federation ships still have the classic human warp assembly and hull arrangement he pioneered right from the beginning.
    Of course, that ending though. I guess he wanted it much sooner in this timeline, heh.

    One of the best star trek movies, and the greatest scenes are just the dialogue. The lore and implications of these scenes really bring the weight of the state of humanity, which is intrinsically tied to the them of the show, is just so well executed. And well acted. It takes a certain grace to act in a way that serves the script, but doesn't seek the spotlight from the theme which is more important than any one actor or ego.

    Star Trek Next Generation, like the original Star Trek, followed Modernist ideas from the Enlightenment: humans are rational, and the human race improves itself by its own efforts. With all of his contributions, it makes me wonder why there was never a USS Cochrane in the fleet. You'd think with all that he did, the least he could get is a ship named after him. I guess he wasn't as important as they made him out to be.

    • @Mulder495

      There is a U.S.S. Cochrane; NCC 59318.

    • @RumbleFish69
      @RumbleFish69 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Mulder495 You're right, but what shows up, in my opinion, is far worse than if they hadn't had a USS Chocrane ship at all. On the official list of Federation ships, it shows up twice, which is weird. One vessel has zero distinction or information, and the other is an Oberth Class vessel, which is a civilian operated vessel. Obviously, it was just a canonical creation and addition, which was only included for lore.
      And yeah, this inclusion is worse than if they didn't have a vessel named after Chocrane! An oberth class? That ship is a slap in the face to the man who started it all! Did you hear what Riker said? None of it, would be possible without Chocrane, but he gets an Oberth Class vessel? With everything that Riker said, the USS Chocrane should have been, at the very least, a Constitution Class vessel with tremendous notoriety, and adventures, under its operation. The USS Chocrane should have been featured prominently in movies and TV shows, but it's nowhere to be found in any movie or TV show, which makes my original statement true.
      Plus, after Riker's talk up, you'd think that a ship bearing that name would not be some random one-off, fan-service side reference on some list that no one ever looks at. Yeah, my original statement loses no traction. These obscure mentions on this "official" list mean absolutely nothing. I say all this respectfully, of course. And, I do thank you for pointing out that this ship, or these ships, on the list.

    A lovely dream but it’s never going to happen. I have become increasingly cynical as I’ve gotten older, somewhat depressing. I severely doubt that mankind will ever reach the point that we are able to cooperate like that and learning that there is other life out there it would be just as likely to cause us to become conquerors as it would be to become explorers

      The 24th century ship (2300's) is likely far more advanced then anything the vulcans had back then
      The Vulcans were likely between Star Trek Enterprise and Star Trek TOS technology in 2063
      when the Phoenix was launched. Minor Electronic Warfare and Impulse/Heat Dispersal from the future worked wonders.

    I believe in extraterrestrials 👽. The universe is a big place, can we really be the only dominant life forms out here? Why don’t they (aliens) come and unite with us? I have no idea. 🤷‍♂️

    • @jeezed2950
      @jeezed2950 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe maybe not. But either way, we have enough problems to deal with to have to worry about extraterrestrial interference. Any contact with an alien race at this point is not a sign of good things to come.

      There are multiple reasons why they don't come to us. Maybe it's because they're too far away from us. Maybe it's because they don't want anything to do with us. Or maybe it's because they have their own Prime Directive that prohibits them from contacting us.
