Man, my dad would be crapping himself with joy if he were still here. He always wanted to see a series with Captain Pike; he saw Star Trek from the very first pilot of TOS back in the 60s to 2018, when he passed from heart failure. I like to think that, somewhere in Valhalla, he's watching this and all the other good shit he never got to see in life.
@@max8286 thats what those in power want you to think, it keeps you slightly on edge all the time. its in the back of your mind permanently. it keeps those in power literally in power. they say they are the only ones who can keep us safe and well fed but look at the world today. we are all seeing the struggle and no one wants to do anything about it. i agree we need men like pike to put this world back on course, we need better and stronger leadership to make this world great and peaceful again. no one in history has ever managed to do this but i hope this person exists and will rise to the challenge. i would prefer to live safe and happy. not always thinking whats going to happen next to hold me down.
We are mere 100 seconds away from the Doomsday Midnight as of January 2022, closer now. Why can't his speech be compelling enough to change things for the better. We can be better than what we are now, creatures of self-centered interests, distracted from the forest for the trees.
I agree with you - @jrr3428 ! And it shows that being attentive to the legend works just as well. You're another one who sees it, my way - actually NOT my way, but Gene Roddenberry's!
@@BishopWalters12 Actually there was part of the start of the civil disobedience in Washington DC. That was shown but yes - you're quite correct on the disorder not being shown! It's a great pity that had also not been shown - I suspect that Trump threatened legal action if it had been shown. So there's no surprise there.
"So, go to war with each other, or join our Federation of Planets, and reach for the stars." Pike's words stirred something in me that I haven't felt in a very long time. True, the words were written by someone else, but Anson Mount delivers them with such dignity, you can't help but be moved.

I’m not a fan of saying what Gene would like or dislike. After all, he disliked so many things we have come to like about Star Trek over the years. And he liked some things that never did become part of it. Star Trek has evolved into something that, he KNEW, would grow into something we value without him. And that’s as it should be. If it can represent the best part of us collectively then Star Trek is doing it’s job. And in this scene, by the prophets, it IS!
@@BroughPerkinsMedium - Let me just say that although I'm somewhat more cautious about a season 4 of Picard. Generally I hold a respectful open mind to Discovery and Strange New Worlds There is a lot to commend these series. I will withhold judgement on the 5th Season of the former and the second season of SNW. With these two however. I am quietly satisfied with them.
the delivery of it kind of reminds me of how heath ledger as the joker said "hi" to Two Face when he's in the hospital bed. Different context of course, but the sort of awkward tone and inflection of it, is VERY similar 🤣
Yeah I don't get the Discovery hate, they tried to do their own thing, and made some really good sci-fi, especially seasons 2-3. But SNW is a really nice return to the old formula, while still bringing something new.
I like Discovery too and I love the fact that they go into the future and actually become a Beacon of Hope to rebuild the Federation again. Discovery the reason why it is so Advanced is because it's the Next Generation ship and they tell you in the first season is the most advanced ship and all the fleet so that's your answer why it's so vast why does Holland decks on the ship because it was designed that way it was meant to be Advanced and I have a feeling that's why it's meant to go into the future. Every single series is different from one another every single Series has a little bit of differences that make them so special and it still Star Trek it's just a different type of Star Trek and that makes this show a lot fun. I like the fact that they don't Circle the swearing sorry in what world are you living in where are the tire population will not swear are you living in a rock or something because everybody in the real world does swear
@@hellomark1 the hate is mostly visible online - the majority of us love Discovery - you can see it on the ratings :D and I agree with all that you said about Discovery, it's something new and tbh, after more than 10 years since Enterprise (when Discovery came out in 2017), it was quite refreshing when I first watched it. Can't wait to see more of new Trek!
i feel this may be too possible future but how to stop it from happen is hard look i know we all feel it the unknow of the future the sense of death if we dont try to fix something we cant find but what if this is right we sure go into outer space to save the future we need to leave our home our lifes our world just to save the future that we believe is possible because we living in it maybe not all but we are in the time of peace and too keep this peace we need to fly
@@helperdude8205The problem is, we, ordinary people cannot stop it. Only those in power can do so, but those are too greedy and prideful to do something someone other than themselves. And some of the would rather see the world burn than to be perceived as weak.
I love the shots of the Enterprise crew as they listen to Captain Pikes' speech. You see the concern and understanding they have for the future of this strange new world and then the pride they have in Pike's words as members of the United Federation of Planets. It might be the most inspirational speech ever made in the history of Star Trek.
I want to see more of this species in future episodes and series. They had a technological level pretty close to our current society and they managed to reverse engineer an antimatter reactor and a warp device just from watching a ship go into a wormhole through their telescopes. That's pretty fucking brilliant. They probably have a lot to offer the Federation.
As Picard said: "We humans know our past, even when we're ashamed of it." Pike showed them a very destructive, shameful part of Human history, then calmly and rationally used it to convince a world there's a better way. Nicely done 🖖
I suspect that, if we DO have a nuclear war and come out the other side, this will be our reaction. After every major conflict, there was a period of relief and healing. A point in time where all victorious nations began pulling out and demillitarising the areas they had taken over. I suspect, and hope, that after a war as destructive as that one, humanity will reach the apex of its understanding of war as hell. As a last resort, only to be used when all other avenues have been exhausted.
That is indeed one of the biggest lessons we need to learn. Acknowledging that we have done terrible things in the past. Not desperately finding ways to justify it, or white-washing it as if it didn't happen, or were someone else's fault.
Amen. I'm from UK. We still put Winston Churchill on our money and that white supremacist toff starved more Indians to death than Hitler gassed Jews. Englands also the only country with sovreinty in the ""union"" same shit still happening today.
@@k1productions87here here! I've heard of people wanting make many of the bad aspects of the US's history be less horrible and bad, and often the reason give for doing so is so kids don't feel guilty, embarrassed, or ashamed for something someone did. First step in recovery of a civilization is admitted something is wrong, second step is learn from it so it's not repeated and forgotten, third step is to strive for better. And right now we're seeing what we'll look back at as the time when the United States went through a rough period that will cause a lot of people to struggle. The road a head will look long, bleak, and full of twist and turns, but we must forge ahead and stay true to our goal to strive better.
Something about that speech that caught my attention. This speech is the perfect example of why history is so important, both the good but especially the bad, because if you see the worst that can happen and if you can get those in power to see the worst of history, then maybe, just maybe you can avoid a repeat of it, Captain Pike was in the very unique position of being able to show them, arguably, the darkest piece of Earth's history so that it doesn't have to become the darkest piece of their history as well. In my opinion this is the true essence of Star Trek, a show about a hopeful and bright future that could be, something to aspire to, bravo to the writers of this show and thank you for bringing Star Trek back to true form.
@MingWLee The incident that caused Starfleet command to reissue "General Order 1" as "The Prime Directive," with double-underlines and a stamp. "We MEAN it! Don't interfere!"
The Prime directive was already broken. The race of people had detected a battle nearby and extrapolated an antimatter bomb that looked like warp drive to starfleet sensors. They had already been 'damaged' and were on a course of self destruction. Pike was correcting the interference that had already happened. We don't see that race in later shows, perhaps they will turn up in SNW at some point or in one of the next new serieses. But just perhaps they decided to work together instead of against each other, even if they did not join the Federation.
The speech is awesome, but what gets me the most is The Enterprise becoming a symbol of unity, progress, and hope for an entire world, inspiring them to be better and to reach for the stars.
From my view point modern star trek has been pretty bleak, but Strange new worlds has changed that. Star trek is back to showing what humanity might become and it is good. I'm happy to see star trek back as Gene planned it to be
I agree that modern Trek is pretty bleak, but I will argue that it is almost necessary for it to have been so. The franchise has always been, at its core, two things: commentary on what is wrong with our civilization and, after that admonition, encouragement that we can and _will_ get past those things. I think that it is more impactful to watch a man (or a society) claw its way out of a hole into the sunlight than it ever could be to see a man born and raised in comfort, never having known struggle or want, give grand speeches on the human condition. With SNW, I think we are watching Trek claw its way out of that hole. Picard could be self-assured during TNG because he had never known anything but being right (and the writers made sure that he always was.) Now, Pike can be right because he has seen wrong, and can help guide others in knowing the difference.
@Searching for Ufos sorry I should have been more specific star trek discovery feels pretty negative to me. TNG has always been an amazing show and holds true to the creators ideas definitely not a negative show. I would say I started seeing the negativity starting around the time of voyager, not all episodes but some and very few at that.
@@aetharan4825 Star Trek had no reason to change. TNG was very successful, within the inevitable restrictions. The producers misunderstood why the ratings declined in Season 7: It was simply that the characters were getting old. We had seen everything. Data with Troy. Riker with LaForge. Picard with Worf. Every combination had been done. Every member had been evil for an episode or two. What was needed was simply new characters. The producers misunderstood. They thought people wanted bleak, and wanted pewpewpew. And so, the Dominion War arc killed the franchise. We will see if SNW can revive it. Also, LD. _
What I got is "The power of possibility, even up until the end, the Future is what we make it". Powerful stuff, even for my own life!! This show is AWESOME!!
Pike has always been the better character, since Jeffrey Hunter played him. He was the hero we deserved, but not the one we needed at the time, for the 60's was all about rough 'n tough cowboys. But that time has passed, and now Pike is EXACTLY the hero we need right now.
Carl Sagan once said in a time of cold war: "In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.” We managed anyway not to end the World at that time, it was close. It would be really easier for people to realize we are all in the same boat if they already knew about the future that realisation would bring. Looking at the world right now, I really hope the Vulcans show up before we have to build that warp engine...
We are closer to midnight than we have ever been. We are the only ones that can reverse the clock, no aliens are coming to save us (not that we'd listen to them if they did)
This is, without a doubt, one of the most well written, timely, and best performed speeches that point out and mirror fiction and it’s intersection with timely events.
"The power of possibility...life is to be worn gloriously...until our last moment the future is what we make it". This feels like the old Star Trek I fell in love with. Awesome show.
And, coming From Captain Pike, it's Beyond Heartfelt, it's a Bitter Reality that he ALREADY KNOWS can BE. Spock, though, in the future, does do, the 'Human Thing', and puts Pike, in a better lasting Place. It was Illogical, and meant that Time-Travel, and "Magic" might yet be things Vulcans hadn't yet explored. If you Don't Know, then please watch 'The Cage' of the TOS, both as it's Pilot, and, the Kirk-era episode. The tie-ins are amazing {thanks to Sect.-31? IDK?!}.
amazing. the first captain of the enterprise we got to see 56 years ago . took a long time but it has all come full circle. be proud jeffrey hunter. your character and captain's chair are in good hands.
Agreed. It's been definitely a long road getting from there to here It's been a long time But Pike's time is finally here And I can feel the change of the franchise right now Nothings in its way
We probably need a benevolent alien intervention to tell us to stop it. We still see the differences in our many different races and suspicions, greed and power is still a problem we haven't overcome.
Have heart my friend. Us Star Trek Fan's embody and represent the dream Gene and co. gave to us. If we remember to act as a Starfleet Officer would in our lives, we will bring it alive on Earth today. That's the higher point. Entertainment was just the sugar but the characters and morals and ideals and methodologies are the medicine for us... I think we will avoid Nuke War ultimately. But we have never been closer than this even when near misses occurred. I predict an emissary from the West (not sure which country exactly, could be USA) will meet with Putin, make many good offers, and find a way forward. In the meantime let's keep being the Federation in our own lives... It does actually make a difference. I play Star Trek Online, the free to play online game. I find it calms me and gives me a little "home" in my psyche on my off hours. Lots of the original actors lent their voices to the game and we can fly and play through missions. It's 12 years old now so it's a very mature and well fleshed out game. If you have a decent computer and internet and get sad, download it and e-mail me and I'll fly with you Yeltsin.
@@BroughPerkinsMedium don’t worry. I’m not suicidal or nothing. I just feel like our society has moved thru various phases throughout our existence but now we have the technology to wipeout the entire planet. I think our destiny is to basically destroy ourselves and then the survivors will rebuild the way of the federation I think this has happened with some earlier civilizations that perished as well. Just a cycle n
I really appreciate the way we get to see the impact Pike had, like he doesn't give them a choice and then leave us wondering what they decided. We can see kids in school being inspired and technicians actively working on reaching the stars. They chose joining the Federation.
As a Trekkie, it is hard to hear that I am living in the world that ended to create the world that I loved to watch as kid. I was watching a future that I cannot enter because I will a burned shadow on the ruins of building. Damn.
That’s what makes Trek great though, it IS a hope for a better tomorrow. It may seem like we’re headed down the dark path Pike shows, but just like the aliens, we have a choice: keep fighting over dwindling resources and ideological differences, or find a way to come together to make things better for our descendants. It seems like there’s a lot of division online and in society, and there’s an economic incentive to fuel that, but it’s really ok in a lot of cases to say “I don’t agree with you, but I don’t have to hate you.” I’ve started doing that recently and actually had some nice discussions with people on topics we’re both passionate about. It’s helped me understand why I feel the way I do but it’s also given me an understanding of where they’re coming from.
The point is to build toward that world we want instead of accepting the one we are in. Defeating hate and the rising fascism today isn't easy, but keeping that idea of where we are trying to go in mind helps.
This scene was also a message to the humans of our era - we don't have to die like this. We can choose to go beyond. Leave our savagery behind and reach for the stars.
I love that this episode managed to be a warning without being preachy. Discovery tends to spell everything out in big bright flashing letters, whereas SNW takes a more subtle approach that doesnt take you right out of the message it's trying to send. Anson Mount also just does such a fantastic job as pike. Really a fantastic captain.
I've never been really into star trek. But as of late, I've been watching it, little clips of both the older shows and this one. and the more I do, the more I come to appreciate and even adore the ideals it tries to convey. But most of all, its made me want to seek out my own potential and finally improve myself. And hopefully, even in a small personal level, improve the world around me. Live long and prosper everyone. Let us work towards a future we can all enjoy and be proud of!
"But I choose to believe that your destinies are still your own. Maybe that is why I'm here. To remind you of the power ... of possibility." Welcome back Star Trek. I missed you.
There are parts of Earth that are isolated and recovering even in pikes time. In the original series it was Earth reaching out to Alpha Centauri who had technology for radiation elimination, it was the tellerites who showed humans how to mine in space, and humans shared their unique warp drive so those races no longer needed 'jump drives'
Interesting take. I accept that notion. But, in channeling the thoughts and opinions of Star Trek fans from years past, I like the series because it presents a positive vision for the future. It may not be realistic. Yet it’s an aspirational theme that I like.
@@Murderbot2000 well that’s always been the theme of Star Trek. From our darkest hour, we made our brightest future. It shows us what humanity is capable of, first in evil then in good
@@Murderbot2000 The best example of this sentiment is in DS9's 'Badda Bing, Badda Boom' when Cassidy tells Sisko about her opinion of Vic's: she fully understands what Earth culture was like in that time, but they're not trying to remake it as it was, but as it could be. That, if anything, is the core of 'Star Trek': accepting the flaws of humanity, but always striving for the idea that we can be more than what we were before. Equally as important: it's not the destination that's important, but the journey we make there that shapes us into being better, and the idea that we can't do it alone... so make new friends along the way, who also have their own ways, challenges and hopes for the future.
They can, and do. You just don't vote for them. The problem isn't politicians. Its the electorate. If we actually voted for people like Pike, more would run and it would become the Norm. Sadly, thats not what happens. Often the loudest, most in you face guy wins. Then, big shocker. . . He turns out to be as asshole
The finale of those people stepping back from the precipice, living along side one another, celebrating the history that brought them together, and seeing a civilisation working through its baggage and stepping into the future... That's a pretty awesome sequence.
that was possibly the most powerful speech i have ever heard in all of history, i actually started to cry when hoping and praying for captain pikes ideals... instead of the apocalyptic 3rd world war...
Note that at the start of the episode he has the classic "The Day The Earth Stood Still" playing on his main video screen in his home with Klatu delivering "The Speech". His sweetheart comments about it and how it is his favorite video. The right person at the right time prevents a planetary armageddon...
I love this so much. It is the hopeful Star Trek that I missed. Earlier, when asked about how Human's put down rebellions, Pike said negotiations and debate. They talk out their problems and reach compromises that mutually benefit all parties. That's how treaties are formed and how alliances are started. It's one of the founding principles of the Federation and This moment captures it perfectly.
One of the better speeches ever in Star Trek I’ve rewatch this several times, and each time it shows a very personable, and very honest outlook on how life can be when an entire civilization is polarized into bettering themselves. I wish humanity could actually grasp tightly this idea and make our world a better place
dont know about other trek shows, but Strange New Worlds is doing justice to the core message and theme of Star Trekk world. "THE BEST OF WHAT HUMANITY CAN BE"
Whether you enjoy the other shows or not, we needed them in order to find the proper footing. If Discovery was the "Apollo 1 Fire", the lessons learned were necessary for Strange New Worlds to stick the "Apollo 11 Landing"
I loved how, right out of the gate, this show was showing us that it was Star Trek-flavored Star Trek. They go to the Social Commentary Planet inhabited by Aliens Who Are Just Basically Us and the captain lays it out with a really stirring speech. This was, like, a good 40% of the original series, and it felt so damned good to see that it still works.
...Yeah, actually. You're right. Thank you. I've just finished the first episode, and I was just thinking that it felt a little... generic. At the very least, it felt like a good 2-parter that had been squeezed into 1 episode. Like, I didn't *hate* it, but I didn't love it either, and there were certain moments that stuck out as red flags for me (Pike giving his speech that, in universe, would have just been him quoting Cochrane's address to Star Fleet from ENT, and getting that painfully 21st century reaction from Uhura like she's hearing it for the first time? And those very unsubtle character & relationship introductions... felt like a really good example of discovery writing, and why so many people have a problem with it). I was leaning towards the idea that it felt too much like Discovery writers trying too hard to recreate Classic Trek. But, this is the 'classic trek style' series, that's how it's being marketed, and it makes sense that they'd be trying to push that impression right off the bat, even if it's to the episode's detriment in places while they're trying to find their balance. And you're right- they were trying really hard to stick to the format, and it shows in places my mind was too preoccupied with the flaws of other Nu-Trek shows to recognise as anything but bad writing. Like, I was comparing the stirring speech at the end to Picard's speech at the end of season 1 of his show, a Deus ex machina that solves a really interesting ethical dilemma instantly with perdy words to pay lip service to the Trek legacy... but I shouldn't be comparing it to Picard, I should be comparing it to Kirk. And they *nailed* it. That's exactly how he'd handle that situation. I still don't know if I like the show, but bad first episodes are a running theme in Star Trek. And like I say, I didn't *hate* this one. It just felt... mid. And that's not *bad.* It's certainly not episode 1 of Lower decks bad, and I gave that show more than one episode to win me over. So I'm gonna keep my subscription. For now.
So deeply refreshing to have a Star Trek captain like this again, one who can save the day with a rousing, optimistic and charismatic speech, after watching people get murdered and tortured and blown up and disintegrated for years in Picard and Disco lol. THIS is the Trek we’ve wanted back for years! Underplayed, intelligent and dignified sci-fi. With a touch of camp and humor.
"...the power of possibility." Man, that makes me emotional. That's the power of great writing. It's why I love a good screenplay. Why I love this show and its entire franchise.
This scene for me is one of the most pure Star Trek moments I have ever seen. Because sure the struggle that comes with exploring the universe is important. The exploration as well. The moral quandaries that new circumstances present. But in my mind the most integral part of Star Trek is the hopeful look into the future. To dream of what we could and should aspire to be. Pikes conviction is visible on every single crew mate. They recognize his words for the dream they all share. The most noble cause that unifies people of different convictions. The dream to explore the stars.
This is a true classic Star Trek episode in the greatest tradition of the original series. It checks every box. Strange New Worlds pretty much makes you want to forget all those OTHER Star Trek series other than the original series.
@@lamarravery4094 don't think they were referring to Classic Trek, but the more recent and divisive ones that tried to stray from what made Stat Trek great. SNW is a return to form, while mixing in new elements of production and story telling. It isn't a grimdark dystopia, but a hopeful look at the future, with a dash of camp as tribute to the original series. The writing isn't always perfect, but unlike anything else recently spawned by CBS/Paramount this show embodies the true spirit of Star Trek.
This is one of the trekiest trek moments I've ever seen and I've watched all the series. I think it also did a great jobs of reminding the viewer through the dialog about why we need Trek. . .its a reminder. . .
This is what I missed so much. Star Trek back in 90s was full of vision of great common future for humanity. It was inspirational to an entire generation. This brought it back in time of great need. Finally Star Trek is back.
This is star trek, the brilliance of story telling to educate to be humble respect all ideology and way of life , living together and achieving greatness
This. This is why I'm a fan of Star Trek. I was in open-mouthed wonder after watching Strange New Worlds' first episode. If you ask me this scene didn't just make it a great first episode of a new series. I think it's one of the best and most meaningful scenes in the history of the franchise. 🌍🌌🚀
This pretty showed us a possible and maybe likely situation for our RL. It's sad... but also, I like how they kept mentioning past and then they finally showed.
So so good. As a traditional Trek fan and not so much of a new Trek guy, this was unbelievable. Captain Anson Mount, welcome to the family and we salute you 🫡
I started loving his version of CPT Pike in Season 2 of Discovery when he gave this speech: "Starfleet is a promise. I give my life for you, and you give your life for me. And no one is left behind. Ensign Sylvia TIlly is out there, and she has every right to expect us. We keep our promises..."
I love the slight pause in-between "600,000" and "Species." Just to let you think for half a second that maybe its a bad but salvageable situation before the rug is pulling right out from under you
What I love most about this scene is not the shock and horror of the aliens, but the grief and sorrow of the human characters. Even 200-ish years later, WW3 has left its mark on the human psyche.
I had to go back to look, but you're right. I saw it most on M'Bega's face even the first time through, but it's there. And not a raw grief. One that's been carried for a very long time, long enough that it doesn't weigh you down but you also never, ever forget because it's part of your soul.
"Because until our lasr moment... The future's what we make it." Is so powerful that I used it for a Monologue when I was in Acting. 2:30 One year later, Pike speaks to me. In season 2, not only do I enjoy his singing performance, but I also enjoy his Father Figure personality. Anson Mount has brought life to this version of Pike.
Just started watching. I have loved Trek since I was 8 years old (33 years ago). This feels like Trek and I'm so happy to see it back again. A good cast. Really good captain with charisma. Adventure. "Reach for the stars." I love it! Boldly go SNW!
My old man grew up on TOS. I offered him Strange New Worlds, and he loved it. This is Star Trek to him. Writers and scene designers can do it, if we let them.
This is something I’ve always appreciated about Star Trek. Roddenberry’s vision of the future is often criticized for being too optimistic, yet In the lore of the Universe it’s been made abundantly clear that the bright future we know as the United Federation of Planets only came after we very nearly destroyed ourselves. Still despite that we persevered and managed to become a part of something so much greater than ourselves. Humanity really made it to the stars. It gives me hope that even if our generation fails, there’s always a chance for the next generation to pick things up and carry them to heights unimaginable. 😌
Yesss, exactly. So many people overlook the greater picture. Yes it's depressing, but the point is humans went to their very lowest point/near extinction and united finally after thousands of years being divided through history. Achieved the final goal of earth of working together as one tribe, and set about working with the Vulcans and in time a federation of planets formed. All protected by the civilian led navy we call starfleet.
This scene encapsulates what I love the most about Star Trek: The power of choice and possibilities! We control our future by embracing life and making the right choices. Even though we might not control every outcome or event, we do control how we choose to react to them. The power of choice and possibilities!!!
Strange New Worlds made me feel heard as a Star Trek fan. I’ve fallen in love with Lower Decks and I like prodigy. I don’t hate Discovery. And I don’t want to ruin it for someone else if it inspires them. I owe discovery a lot of gratitude. Because it existed and did well. It led to StranGe New Worlds and for that I am truly grateful.
Captain Pike’s speech was incredibly moving and emotional. iv watch this a few times now and his words are so deep. love this tv program, i can honestly say he's such a fantastic incredible captain to star trek. . 🥰
I've only seen this episode so far, so it's hard to say if it will continue, but it was really refreshing to see a return to the classic plot structure. There are no complicated plans, no intricate diplomacy, the problem is resolved within a single episode with quick decisive actions of a charismatic captain (who is willing to bend the rules). It feels close to the original series, and I love that.
This is what True Trek is. Warning of potential fatal consequences and also Hope. Or as Captain Pike said the power of Possibilities. The next best speech in Trek is Kirk's at the end of the episode The Omega Glory.
sadly I feel its going to take world war 3 and the deaths that comes with it to change this world and wake people up....because only when humanity is faced with Extinction are they going to learn
Thank You Anson Mount, such a powerful message lets hope our world leaders are paying attention and lets hope we all pay attention , then end of our planted could come with the press of a button or we could all strive to look past our differences and make a better world and future for generations still to come and maybe one day we will be worthy of reaching out into our galaxy and boldly go where we have never been before

That "hi" was so awkward yet endearing. Even charming.
the delivery of it kind of reminds me of how heath ledger as the joker said "hi" to Two Face when he's in the hospital bed.

Mad props for capturing TOS’s authentic message of hope mixed with a little swashbuckling
This whole scene is a must for everyone on Earth today.
That is indeed one of the biggest lessons we need to learn. Acknowledging that we have done terrible things in the past. Not desperately finding ways to justify it, or white-washing it as if it didn't happen, or were someone else's fault.

Perfectly said.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
It's not the people in power that's the issue, but the idiots that put them there in the first place.

If you’re going to break the prime directive, this is the way to do it.
By that time Prime directive hasn't been written yet but General Order 1, it was amended I believe because of what Pike did as we see here
@@MingWLee Well if you're going to break General Order 1 and cause it to be rewritten as the Prime Directive, this is the way to do it.
@MingWLee The incident that caused Starfleet command to reissue "General Order 1" as "The Prime Directive," with double-underlines and a stamp.
"We MEAN it! Don't interfere!"
Recruitment never fails, show them what there missing, and the ideas of war disappear. 😎

I'm happy to see star trek back as Gene planned it to be
Gene*

Star Trek had no reason to change.
Also, LD.

Have heart my friend. Us Star Trek Fan's embody and represent the dream Gene and co. gave to us. Strange New Worlds does in certain ways seem to boldly go where no Star Trek series has gone before.
As a Trekkie, it is hard to hear that I am living in the world that ended to create the world that I loved to watch as kid. I was watching a future that I cannot enter because I will a burned shadow on the ruins of building. Damn.
"Endless possibility." We don't have to end the same way.
Your destiny is still your own
That’s what makes Trek great though, it IS a hope for a better tomorrow.
Star Trek is a post-apocalyptic story at its core, I mean in Enterprise they hinted that Earth took DECADES to rebuild after first contact.
I never thought about it like that. Thank you.

That, if anything, is the core of 'Star Trek': accepting the flaws of humanity, but always striving for the idea that we can be more than what we were before.

Actually it didn't. But you didn't bother watching either series, did you.
This speech live rent-free in my head. Brilliant piece of writing delivered with excellence.
Star Trek at its finest. This speech gave me chills. Well done!
It's a wonderful feeling to be emotionally moved by Star Trek again. These kinds of moral conondrums were what Star Trek has always been built on.
This is a true classic Star Trek episode in the greatest tradition of the original series. It checks every box. Strange New Worlds pretty much makes you want to forget all those OTHER Star Trek series other than the original series.
Enterprise was a good series as well.
@@stryletz I was referring to Jonathan Archer's Enterprise series. That was my favorite.
@@stryletz we could call it "post-grimdark"
My most beloved is STNG :)
And this is a very good Star Trek, or as I call it, Star Trek Pike
Considering the absolute state of the world right now, that "you'll use competing ideas of freedom to destroy each other" hits really hard...
It took me a few watches to understand "The Last Day."
Great writing. Anson Mount is a great addition to the Star Trek universe.
The moment the population of a whole world turned silent and listened. Goosebumps engaged.
I love this scene so much. It is AWESOME watching a planet come together and strive to be more. Amazing
This is star trek, the brilliance of story telling to educate to be humble respect all ideology and way of life , living together and achieving greatness
Ive never teared up with a star trek episode till now, life should be worn gloriously..thank you Captain Pike
I’d so much like a Galactic Federation to come to us now and give us the same inspirational speech that Captain Pike gave these people.
This. This is why I'm a fan of Star Trek. I was in open-mouthed wonder after watching Strange New Worlds' first episode. If you ask me this scene didn't just make it a great first episode of a new series. I think it's one of the best and most meaningful scenes in the history of the franchise. 🌍🌌🚀
When I began watching this series, within the first couple of episodes I thought "Finally, Star Trek is back." I can't wait for the 2nd series.
This clip should be watched by every new writer for Star Trek in all it's forms to truly understand what they are writing about and hoping to achieve.
This pretty showed us a possible and maybe likely situation for our RL. It's sad... but also, I like how they kept mentioning past and then they finally showed.
I love how Pike shuts down the whole room by beaming in.
These people see that and are going 😲 "How is that even possible?!?"
I am enjoying the hell out of Star Trek : SNW so very much. It just feels right.
It certainly does. Probably just the way that Gene Roddenberry would have most originally wanted Star Trek to be.
@@mikebasil4832 It took technology some time to catch up to his vision on the visual side of things...lol
@@mikebasil4832 I keep coming back to this scene...it's for lack of a better word perfect.
So so good. As a traditional Trek fan and not so much of a new Trek guy, this was unbelievable. Captain Anson Mount, welcome to the family and we salute you 🫡
I started loving his version of CPT Pike in Season 2 of Discovery when he gave this speech:
"Starfleet is a promise. I give my life for you, and you give your life for me. And no one is left behind. Ensign Sylvia TIlly is out there, and she has every right to expect us. We keep our promises..."
Honest, strong, relatable, relevant and inspirational to all of us. Great scene and an awesome start to a new series.
I love the slight pause in-between "600,000" and "Species." Just to let you think for half a second that maybe its a bad but salvageable situation before the rug is pulling right out from under you
This exemplifies what Star Trek means for me. Life is all about what CAN be, if we all strive for it. As equals.
This was the first good episode of Star Trek in a very long time. It was in keeping with the spirit and tone set by TOS and TNG.
One year later, Pike speaks to me.
It still teaches us how to be the better version of ourselves!
Truly captures the epitome of Star Trek.
The show is about exploration and AVOIDING Conflict.
But being ready for it.
Definitely a powerful moment in Star Trek history 👏👏👏👏👏
They have finally managed to get back to Star Trek being an inspiring show..something that speaks to us being the best we can be. 🙂
"The power of possibility". Powerful stuff.
I admit, I cried during this moment.
This series is so much better than Discovery.
I watched discovery only for Captain Pike
@@Sathish_12 Pike made Discovery season 2 worth watching
Add me to this list.
@@arnelarboleda2870 I cry every time I watch that monologue.
So did I.
I adore your comment and view thank you for lightning up my expectations as well.🖖 Live long and prosper, Dave.🖖
Bravo to the cast, and paramount. I look forward to season 2, and hopefully, season 3!
Pure Star Trek at it's best! Live long and prosper!
And that Life is to be worn gloriously.
@@danielhaire6677 amen to that.
Thank You Anson Mount, such a powerful message lets hope our world leaders are paying attention
and lets hope we all pay attention , then end of our planted could come with the press of a button or we could all
strive to look past our differences and make a better world and future for generations still to come
and maybe one day we will be worthy of reaching out into our galaxy and boldly go where we have never been before
I keep coming back to this video because it really is a classic Star Trek moment. 😭
