    I think the reason that the Dmax feels as powerful as the others is because it has more torque at lower rpm which is what you want.

      Feel free to correct me as I'm no car expert but aren't the CX-8/CX-9 essentially Mazda's equivalent of the MUX :)

    • @BadDriversOfTheIllawarra
      @BadDriversOfTheIllawarra 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@der888 Whilst the CX-8/9 and MU-X are all large SUV's, they aren't in the same class of vehicle.
      The CX vehicles are based on the underpinnings of the Mazda6 sedan, so they are car-based SUVs. Essentially just big station wagons.
      Whereas the MU-X's body sits on a Ute-based Chassis which makes it more suited for things like towing & off-road driving. So its a 4x4 like a Hilux or Prado for example.
      Hopefully that helps :)

    personally while i like the bragging rights of bigger numbers, I have found the numbers don't always equate to better feel. I mean I towed a car on a trailer with a manual 2009 Hilux, and they had what, less than 400nm? it didn't feel any different with the car on the trailer or without. It towed brilliantly. I've since driven much newer stock and tuned Rangers, Colorados and Tritons, with more power and torque and none felt any faster, in fact I was amazed at how gutless the ranger in particular felt.

    50nm and 10kw less isnt really that much of a difference, if it was 50kw and 150nm less then yeh it would be a mass difference. i picked the dmax x terrain over the hilux purly for the reliabilty the less cost in servicing over 5 years and the fact that it has way more safety features for a decent price.

    I wonder if they will change the diff ratios for the bigger tyres, otherwise the gearbox change points and lockup settings will no longer be optimal - probably they will just re-map it. As for the power upgrade it will simply be a re-map, no need for a bigger turbo for such a modest increase. My bet is the Isuzu engine is quite capable of 650nm without much effort - it is 3.0l after all, and has less friction losses than the 3.0 V6 diesels as it is a 4 pot.

    What a pity that the 3.0 engine does not meet Euro6 final [or any earlier Euro6 standards] emission regs which excludes it from Europe.
    Europe gets the rather weedy 1.9 twin turbo diesel. WTF were they thinking of, given a claimed 10 year design time, which is enough time to design a Mars lander and actually land it.
    Only a six speed Aisin auto transmission when it should surely get the very well established eight speed auto. This six speed high torque Aisin gearbox was used in Audi Q7 and VW Tuareg V6 diesels since 2006 for goodness' sake.

    Don’t know why all these modern utes are so underpowered it’s ridiculous. I’ll buy when they do 0-100kmh in under 7 seconds

    Wow....a re-flashed ecu, all terrains and off road shocks, nothing innovative here!

      brian sullivan thanks for pointing out the differences between the old versus new model, but mate you have missed my point somewhat completely. This is in relation to the topic of “off-road kit” nothing else Brian. So, as I have stated, nothing innovative with this particular model, except for what I have already mentioned...I wouldn’t buy the old model, but I would consider buying the updated D-Max, however I would upgrade it myself instead...thanks for your response 👍

      @brian sullivan...reliability is the engines staple mate! Injectors on the previous model have been noted to be amongst the more reliable too. Engine re-mappers/power modules also like the power gains from such an under-stressed engine too. You really will be buying an awesome ute if you decide on this updated model. Look at Outback Armour suspension as an upgrade...awesome bit of kit! Cheers Brian
