Hi Tamara, I am not sure I am commenting in the right place as I am a newbie to TH-cam commenting. Thank you so much for this tight living tip! I used to do it, and it was simple, but I now have this strange vision problem which gives me vertical double vision Both eyes see fine, just not in the same place. So applying makeup, especially eye liner, is quite a challenge!. I find it so much simpler to use this technique, as I am only looking in the mirror with one eye! Thank you so much! I am not sure how to find the product descriptions in the notes? I am curious about the eyeliners you used! Thank you so much again! I

Hi Tamara. I have worked in ophthalmology for the last 30 years, and I am so glad you mentioned precautions and how doing this to the 'water line' can affect the eyes. I have seen many women with dry eyes and even infections because they pack on the makeup in that area, and as we age, we are more and more prone to dry eye in the first place. However, it is a VERY beautiful look on you, so I am even going to try it myself. You are right... it makes your lashes look lush and your eyes stand out. Thanks for the 'lesson'.

Hi there, yes, I’m in my 60s and I’ve been told by my optician to stop wearing any form of eye liner, even though I’m careful when applying (I too worked as a retinal eye screener until retiring last year) any products, ive now got dry eye, could be also be age related , but when My eyes were examined under the slip lamp with no eye make up on he could see debris of eye liner still there! Think it’s time to stop using it for myself! Wouldn’t mind I only did this if I was going somewhere special …keep safe everyone 🥰

I have tight-lined for decades, long before it had a name. I use L’Oréal Infallible 16 Hr eyeliner in Carbon Black. Stays put all day. I never put it on my lower lid, so it makes my eyes seem brighter. I have hooded lids so heavy eyeliner above the eyes always ends up on my upper lid. I will give your tips for the lighter shade on the lower lid a try. Thanks for this informative video!

I have very pretty green eyes~~ get compliments all the time ~~ this technique will get me even more nice comments ~~ thank you!!!
Just want to find a couple really good black pencils for tightlining!!!!! I love using a flesh colored pencil for the waterline~~ it really brings eyes out! Sometimes I use a green shade or lavender on waterline for my green eyes. Wow~~ the jet black tightlining will REALLY make my green eyes POP!

I LOVE to enhance both the tight line in a darker brown pencil better for mature and blondes & water line. Water lining with a beautiful Sephora 12 hour colorfull pencil in "Fresh Mint" looks beautiful with my green eyes! Try water lining also....just don't use a dark pencil for the water line, use a color to enhance your eye color!!!

I use Almay gel eyeliner to tight line. My eyes are very sensitive, and Almay doesn't make them burn or get red. After chemotherapy, my eyelashes never grew back all the way, and tight lining has been a life-saver!

  • @livialaurenzano4081
    @livialaurenzano4081 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I begin doing this years ago long before I knew it was a bona fide make up technique with an actual name. I realized that I could make my lashes look thicker if I filled in the space between lashes at their base. I used to soft gel pencil. I’d start at the outer corner and bring my lid down against the pencil and then simultaneously move the pencil up against the lid to deposit pigment between the lashes at the base. I continued doing this all along the lash line. It worked! I only recently added the back-and-forth movement to make the line more dramatic but I don’t do that all the time. Nice to know that someone else came up with the same idea. Great minds think alike as they say! God bless.

I love your look with the shades of grey and pop of pink. Two things I cannot bear to do is curl my eyelashes with one of those horrid looking devices or tight line. You never mentioned how long it took you to develop your tight line technique, but you certainly were determined. I’m definitely a quitter! 😂 In case others have my reaction to tight lining and like me stop trying, Smitha Deepak demonstrated my new favorite eye lining technique called a “puppy dog eye” that is my new go-to. Instead of fighting the hood or shape of eye it lets you accentuate the roundness. She also shows how to “stamp” the liquid eyeliner on.
Thank goodness for you folks on YT teaching all of us the useful things you’ve learned or developed.

I’ve just started to do this (aged64!!) and the very best result I had was with a Victoria Beckham eye pencil, it’s very very soft but gave a great result. It did however transfer onto my lower lash line, but it still looked great and lasted SO well. The next best was the Charlotte Tilbury pencils, both the VB and CT are very soft so that’s maybe why it works so well…

  • @GenXVictoria

Oh my gosh. All I could think of was in the 80’s how we used to take that maybelline red-painted hard black liner, melt it with a match or lighter then go to town on the lower waterline and on the lids/under lower lashes. Lol. We didn’t call it tight lining, but I remember how I eventually stopped doing it because I hated the black eye goop in the corner of all of our eyes 2 hours after being in school!
Thank you for showing the between the lash technique. I’m struggling to give up my black eyeliner (my eyes are dark brown). I used the CT brown liner yesterday and really liked it. I also have learned about using a white pencil on the lower line to help brighten the sclera. I’m not sure I really like that contrast though. It can be noticeable. Stay warm up there! I saw you had a sweater AND a jacket on! 😊💖💜

Yes ❗️❗️❗️ precious lid space is the key. I started doing this a few months ago and love it. Makes my eyes look big and youthful. I do not put anything on bottom . I love the Revlon Color stay waterproof long wearing ultra fine tip pencil.. It's very creamy glides on no pulling . Drys instantly no smudges or irritation. I love the Brown it's very dark . The black looks too hard on us after 50. Great video.

The techniques you demonstrated are excellent. I usually do a super thin liquid liner on my upper lash line to avoid eating up my tiny lid space. I don't do the tight line because I battle a pretty severe dry eye condition which I treat with prescription meds and don't want to block the gland openings. Occasionally I will do the scrubbing into the lashes method. Your hair has grown a lot the past few months and looks beautiful 💖

I happened to look in my 15 x mirror after I thought I had cleansed my face but there was still some color at the root of my lashes. I now use a cleansing oil and rub it gently but thoroughly into the lashes and that does the trick. It’s easy to miss.

Hi Tamara, Great demo...I kind of do the same as you, but I often - not always - use eyeshadow. I sometimes spray a setting lotion on my brush and then apply. I think "scrubbing" between the lashes makes a bit difference. Your demonstration was so good. This past summer, after a friend did so (and I asked MaryEllen so many times what she thought), I had permanent eyeliner done. It is the boldest thing I have ever done to myself!!! 😂 It is so subtle that I can barely notice it, but it makes a huge difference. It's soft and makes my eyes look more defined but no one knows why. Even my daughter hasn't caught on yet. I am waiting!!! Have a great week...Carol

I’ve tried so many eyeliners for tight lining and they always transfer to the bottom waterline and eventually gather in the corner of my eye. I have sensitive eyes as well and it just seems to exasperate this. My optometrist was so upset when I went in for an eye exam and she saw that I had tight lined, I definitely struggle with dry eye, so she insisted I stop. It’s such a shame because as I age lid space is becoming scarce.

Thank you for your patience in showing us how to tight line. I havevreally never been crazy about eye liner on my top eye lid and never used liquid eye liner. I'm very basic in the amount of make up that I have always worn and I do like the fact tight lining gives us more definition without crowding our eye lid...thank you again!!

This technique kind of reminds me of how we'd apply black pencil in the pre 60s (before liquid eyeliner became popular). We would line it between top and bottom -- not just the top.

My waterline is wide and quite noticeable; I tightline nearly every day. I have always used the lift-the-lid technique, but watching the way you do your tightline, and how pretty the results are, I am definitely going to try your method. Thanks so much for sharing it with us, and thank you for all of your wonderful and entertaining content. At the age of 64, your videos are so much more realistic and helpful for someone my age than watching the 20, 30 and 40-somethings doing makeup on their smooth, unwrinkled skin!

Looks great on you, Tamara! My eyes water easily so I don’t bother trying to tight line. In fact I didn’t even use eyeliner until my 40s. I have naturally long curled lashes and felt my eyes looked more open and lash length was best emphasized without eyeliner. Now my lashes aren’t as thick so I just do a thin amount close to the lash line and in between lashes. It’s enough to give definition for my liking. My bigger challenge is under eye pooling after I apply concealer. For some reason concealer causes my under eyes to look saggier than before I apply it. I just bought Kosas shade 1.5 and it looks good at first but within 20 minutes I am fighting newly formed bags. I try all the techniques and find I am happier without it. Poor me. Lol.

I can recommend to tightline as the very first make up step. Then you do not mess up the foundation when resting the hand on the cheek and if I get eyeliner on the lid (if I blink) there is no problem, I can just wipe it off.

Hi Debbie. My mom is in her 70’s and has had this issue all her life. She has oilier lids/waterlines. We’re trying a good tubing mascara for her upper and lower lashes (the MAC that Tamara recommended) and she generally doesn’t use eyeliner. She focuses more on her lashes and brows. Maybe try Tamara’s technique for going between the lashes and not on the actual waterline. Hope that’s somewhat helpful! 😊💖💜

Every time I see people do their technique, I’m like there is no wait can do that! I have to pull my eye lid up and I do it before shadow. But it makes my eye water. I also get transfer on my lower eye and it runs in the corners of my eye. No matter what brand. Marc Jacobs, L’Oréal le liner, essence. Always groups up in my outside corner. Maybe it’s just my eye and face shape. My eyes get squinty when I smile. 😄

Hi Tamara! I'm so happy I found your channel! I was just wondering about this tight lining technique. Since the eyeliner will be placed on that inner eye line, will it wear off relatively fast? Otherwise, do you have to keep reapplying it throughout the day? Or if anybody else here in the comment section would chime in, I'd appreciate it! Thanks so much!

Hi Tina! I’m so glad you found my channel too! Welcome…I’m super happy to have you here. The L’Oreal infallible Gel liner that I linked below lasts quite long on my tightline. Also, because it is applied in between the lashes as well it tends to stay out. I don’t reapply. Not all liners last well there tho…look for waterproof or long wear. One of my friends swears by Hourglass but L’Oreal works fine for me. Hope this helps!
