Oh Bobbi, the nay-sayers will be with us until the end of time, I'm afraid. Tightlining and lining your waterline is absolutely FINE as long as you take the necessary precautions. Dr. Rupa Wong, an ophthalmologist, did a video on tightlining a few years ago that was great. Here are some of her tips: 1) Clean the liner with rubbing alcohol after every use and when you first take it out of the package. DON'T use the liner right after you've cleaned it. Wait for it to dry completely before use. It's also a good idea to clean the cap as well. 2) Cleanse the area completely when you wash off your makeup. To go the extra mile, get a cleanser specific for the lashes; this will remove all the liner as well as your mascara. 3) Don't use one with a glitter or shimmer for tightlining or lining the waterline. Leave those for the lid. 4) Opt for liners that are not made from wood as the shavings from sharpening can remain on the liner or the edge where it meets the liner can be jagged. Also, bacteria can remain on the sharpener and transfer. So give that an alcohol bath too if you use one. 5) Ditch old liners after about 4 months or if they start drying out. 6) NEVER share eyeliners, no matter where you're using them on your eyes. 7) Don't use lipliners as eyeliners. They contain ingredients that aren't approved for use on the eyes and also, there's a lot of bacteria in your mouth that you don't want transferred to your eyes. Sorry this is so long, but I just hate fearmongering. I highly recommend you check out Dr. Wong's video; she's great!
@@norinenorine8775Hi, I am 59++ and have had good sanitary luck by using a cotton round pad dampened with Micellar water ( Garnier skin sensitive). Hey, I've talked to my 50+ yrs old female Ophthalmologist about the tight eye liner here's what she said: When she examines gals with make-up on their eyes, she sees not only eye liners but she can also see residue of eye primers, eye shadows and mascaras, pretty much anything we put around the eyes. So with that, as you mentioned, she suggests to stop using products that are irritating your own eyes, (everyone is different). Also she noted, that to be sure to buy those products that state they tested. She mentioned the high glittery products are the worse for anyone's eyes because of the partials in the products. By the way, she herself wears primer, liners, shadows & mascaras. I also want to Thank You for this extensive & thorough video review. Its exactly what I was searching for!!!
Great video, loved it…Instead of putting eyeliner in my upper water line, I smudge it into my lash line, which works best for me with wearing contacts giving the same great look…. You nailed it when you said we are all different and what may work for one person may not work for another.😁
NYX Epic Wear in Deepest Brown is my go-to favorite for the waterline. You get about 4 times the product than the Milani but, even though it's not retractable, I think it's a better value. The best sharpener I've found is from Sally Beauty, the Beautique Dual Point Sharpener, only $4! No wasting product with broken tips.
Thank you so much for doing all the work of testing these liners. I was right in the middle of trying to find one that didn't transfer when I found your videos. So thanks for saving me from spending a bunch of money. Don't listen to the people that freak out over the silliest things, nobody else is listening. They are energy vampires and I don't have the time to be bothered and you shouldn't worry about it either. Great video!
I bought the milani based on your last video. I tight line. Makes my green eyes pop. It transfer a tad on me but the eyeliner is so pigmented and good that I still love it. The smudger is the best part. It’s the least transferable one I’ve tried. Thank you!

I have so much trouble keeping on eyeliner even thought I use eyelid primer and I do use powder eyeshadow to set the pencil liner but nothing lasts. I will try try the Milani after I use up the eyeliners I currently have which I don't enjoy but feel I must use up.
Your lip shape is so pretty! Your smile is amazing! I’ve also had the best results with Milano for tight lining. I stumbled across it in the clearance section and love it.
Thank you so much for doing these eyeliner comparisons. The comments cracked me up! I've been tight lining my eyes for 30 years and I haven't had to call 911, NOT once. LOL
I tightline-no issues. I bought the Milani on your suggestion. It works great for me. I had been using Urban Decay. I double cleanse-as I go heavy on mascara. 😊 Thanks!
I love Physician’s formula precision liner for my tightline/waterline. It doesn’t budge and lasts a long time, plus it has a smooth line without the smudging and transfer that you would typically see with a pencil or gel liner. It goes on more like a liquid liner, but easier to apply. I use the dark brown color. I’ve also tried pixi by Petra eyeliner- the liquid one-on my waterline and it also seems to be equally effective. It just helps with stopping a lot of the issues you’ve described with eyeliner in general.
I'm 55 and have done it that way for 30 plus and my eyes are fine , thank you for thanking the time and doing all the liner. I will try Malani or Cleo 😊
I have hooded, oily, watery eyes. Thinking of switching to new brand but your video made me stick to what works best for me. Surprised you reviewed Clio. I’ve been using it for over a year and really like it. It’s not 100% but for the most part it’s better than the other brands. It does transfer a bit on lower lash line and outer corners a bit for me. I also have the urban decay 24/7 pencil and that my friends just runs and melts a hot mess for tight lining. If I use it as liner with powder on top it’s okay. But never again. Lesson learned.
Gee whiz why are people so mean!? She's not writing tight line/ eyeliner laws to put on the books. Thank you for taking the time and effort to do this tutorial. Save me a lot of money. THANK YOU !!!

Yes my ophthalmologist noticed that I must have put eyeliner in my eyes cuz some was still there!?! I had not put any eye makeup on that day cuz I was going to the eye doctor. I wish I could tell you the brand I used but really have no idea. Anyway after he left the room the tech said to take a warm compress to remove it each time I use eyeliner there and that should remove it. Like you I only use it on nighttime outings but i love the look. Just saw eye doc again and he didn’t see anything this time to comment about. Great informative video. Thanks
I have watery allergy eyes and no liner lasts on my waterline. Some are better than others. Linda Halberg brand is a favorite but I need to try some less expensive brands. Great vid.
I don't waterline or tightline. Not fear-mongering, just following my opthamologist's orders. Rosacea with ocular affect. And now, twice daily drops for glaucoma. But I do love eye makeup! We'll see how much longer I can do mascara; waterproof anything is also on my doc's list. Love your thoroughness in this testing Bobbie! We could use more of these types of trials; maybe for lip liners?
I stocked up on the Makeup Geek liners before they went out of business. Those have always worked terrific for me with long staying power. I also like the Milani one as well.
It does clog the glands and affects and promotes dry eye syndrome. I work for an Eye Dr and that’s what we see most but if things aren’t kept clean and not expired it could promote an infection. So makes sense only do it on special occasions . Thanks for the video
I wore eyeliner usually every day for work. Didn't on weekends. Then I got dry eye....in the middle of Covid lockdown. I hadn't worn makeup for 6 months. Was home for almost 2 years before I went back to the office. Still had dry eye. So dry eye isn't actually "caused" by anything.

Hi Judy, the only remedy for hair loss I have tried is iRestore. I've done a few videos for them, but it did work to drastically slow-down my hair loss. Be aware...it's not cheap!
Hi Bobbi- thank you for doing this video! It was very informative & helpful!! As someone who has oily eyelids & watery eyes, the only eyeliner that I’ve had last for the majority of the day is Stlia’s Stay All Day Smudge Stick Waterproof eye liner in the color Damsel. It’s a more high end price, but I try to catch it on sale or use Ulta coupons. You might want to give it a try.
Adore you & your similar menopausal symptoms as mine! 🙃 My brain fog is annoying, but like you, I chuckle & move on. Thank you for being real & sharing your terrific content with us!
I don’t line my waterline, but I watched anyway to learn something. IMHO, if you are just looking for a regular liner, Urban Decay is the ultimate ‘regular’ liner. For a less expensive alternative, the Pixi eyeliners are decent. Nothing beats Urban Decay for me 😊 thank you for your research!
Great job Bobbie👏. Lots of good tips on removing the eyeliner. Urban Decay has another nice deep brown it's matte, called Demolition. Still love my Makeup Forever Aqua Resist in Ebony. Thanks for the battle of the eyeliners/tightlining.
Another tip that can make a liner last longer is to take a very small flat detail brush and get some of the same color powder eyeshadow and tap that on top of the eyeliner that is on the waterline... I have been doing this for years and it makes my eyeliner last all day. I also have my eyes checked by my ophthalmologist every year in my eyes are perfectly healthy! Rock on with your bad self Bobbi!
I personally don't line my waterline because my eyes are very sensitive. I have oily eyelids and I am still in search of a stay put eyeliner. Stila tends to work well, of course it's higher priced. Great video, thanks for doing all of the research!
Me too! Everything makes my eyes water. I found one recently by Nikol which I Love. It goes on feather 🪶 light and the pigment is amazing. Her stuff is beautiful
Thank you so so much! I’m headed out of town for a big thing this weekend and wanted a quick answer. Headed out in the morning to grab the Milani one before I head to the airport. Thanks! …and I have about 5 in my bag now that did not work! I appreciate the help!
Thanks for reviewing these. I rarely tightline but like the effect. I appreciate you being here ! Hi Mrs. Betty 👋!! I hope you're well. We actually get to harvest some salmon to dry & smoke!! It's a staple in our diet. Have a beautiful summer! God bless you 😊
The Milani works great for me so long as I’m applying it right at the lash line. If I get it on the rim of the eyelid, it transfers to my bottom eyelid The smudger sponge on the Milani can be pulled out to reveal a sharpener.
That was a lot of work! Thanks for doing it. I love that suggestion about using a Q-tip to hold up the upper eye fold while tight lining. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t tight line very often - it seems so fiddly, and that suggestion might help me out.
I also curl my lashes before tightlining and use the qtip to wipe the excess water away when I would apply the eyeliner before curling my lashes for some reason some would come off even the milani so I will curl then apply mascara then tightline and I will also do it to my bottom water line as well I usually will use a cream color in my lower one as well but I wait a few minutes before I apply the cream color thank you for doing these videos I love it
I tightline all the time. It’s the easiest way to apply pencil eyeliner to me. It looks most natural to me as well. I took your advice and bought the Milani pencil from the last video. Works well. I’m going to try the Clio now. Keep testing! I need a waterproof mascara suggestion too! I use Blinc and by the end of the day (10 hours at work), I don’t even look like I still have makeup on, especially eyeliner and mascara.
I’ve had the best results with Clinique waterproof mascara. More pricey than drugstore but not high end either- I’ve tried a slew of waterproof thru the years and I can always depend on Clinique to give me good lashes that last all day and in the water.
I have always put my “tight lined” my eyeliner. Been wearing make up since I was 14, I’m 52, my eyes never had a problem with it. Not directly in my water line, but all the into the lash line. Never knew there was a term for it. 😂 thanks for rating the eyeliners. I have been using different products, and lately its just been sliding off my face. Great video!
I tight line all the time. I highly recommend the Victoria Beckham liners (yes, high end) or the Hourglass liners. Both high end but it’s my eyes and both wear beautifully.
I am one who when I wear makeup I need to use a liner in my waterline. So far I think for me the Milani works good and the WnW break up proof works amazing. But I want to try Persona. I hear it lasts a very long time. I use AOA green tea cleansing balm to remove. Thanks so much for this comparison.
Revlon Colorstay works great. I apply top AND bottom. If you want the lower to be more subtle, try a lighter color bottom, darker color top. Lasts 24 hrs
This was great! I had been happy with UD 24/7 but lately it's just not cutting it! I'm glad there are other options that work better for less. Definitely trying the Milani!
Thanks for these videos. I do tightline most every day, I feel it reall brings my eye out. I don't line my lower waterline. I may give the Milani a try
I loved this review and test! I know some people really want to know this info. I like a tight line for some occasions and all of the ones you did not love, also didn’t work for me. I love the clean it Zero balm or The Ordinary Squalane cleanser, which is a balm but in a tube. Not all balms are eye safe. Check your products folks.
I know the Clio mascara is a holy grail for a skincare/ beauty u tuber. I’ve not tried it since it’s waterproof. But I for sure want to order the eyeliner.
I’ve been doing this since I was a teen as well, about 40 years. I’ve been using Revlon color stay liquid liner. I have very few eyelashes so this has always worked for me. I do however would like a pencil to make it easier. I have tried many but a lot of them just drag. I will definitely try your suggestions. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! This was so needed. I’ll watch your first testing eyeliners video next. My favorite so far for tightlining is the WnW breakup proof liner.
Hi, Just saw your video. Thanks for demonstrating these eyeliners on the water line; however, I believe many of them are intended to go or work best above the lash line. Some of the ones that failed the water line test are terrific when applied above the lash line. Just saying.
I keep going back to maybelline gel pot. Not as practical as a pencil but once you get used to applying it it’s pretty quick. It stays put for the whole day and beyond. Interesting new colours like black chrome and black gold
Thank you for this. I often have watery eyes due to allergies so I 've been searching for just the right eyeliner. I'm tired of my liner being smeared across my face before midday. lol So far I haven't found one (and I've tried several different brands). I may try Milani and see how that goes.
Thanks for all your tips. I don't tightline, but I do use an eyeliner on my waterline on my bottom lashline. I find it very hard to find one that applies well and stays put all day. A lot of them don't even give off pigment, like you had with the Elf one.
I’ve been wondering which pencil best for tight line. I had one that was difficult to get on. But, the ulta beauty brand works very well. I will now try the milani brand.
Hi Melanie here,OMG BOBBIE, JUST FOUND YOU and I cane because u were testing the waterline pencils. !!!!! I'm RUNNING NOT WALKING OUT THE DOOR TO TRY THE MILANI PENCIL ....thank u so much for doing this, I hope I get the same results. I'm a retired Esthetician/Instructor Makeup geek lover and I work at ULTA p/t and yes I still needed ur video as I have an arsenal of pencils but not the Milani 😂, go figure. Can't wait to watch what else you have to share❤elanie
Hello ❤ loved you video so much 🎉 Can you please do this kind of research of white/flesh tone long lasting eyeliner pencils for our lower waterline? My eyes are rather small and I am a big user of lighter pencils. Have not found the perfect one though…
The Almay All-Day eyeliner pencil in Black/Brown is my favorite to use on my upper eyelid. I don't use a liner on my waterline as my eyes are dry. This eyeliner lasts all day for me, applies very easily and it does have a sharpener on the end of the pencil which is very convenient. Take care everyone 🌹
Colourpop gel liners are really good, as long as you let it dry. If you don't let it dry, it will be everywhere. I tightline and waterline. The trick to tightlining is no closing your eyes right off. Hold your lid up a second to let it dry then it's fine and lasts all day with zero transfer.
I probably won't be able to do a video, but I have mentioned many times in past videos that my favorite primer is this one: amzn.to/4dGzOmO (affiliate link). I hope that helps.
@@MindfulMidlife Tried it last spring but sadly it didn't work for me. Maybe my lids are too oily. The only primer that ever worked in the past was by Lancome but it's been discontinued a while and I've struggled every since to find a primer that keeps everything in place, but thanks for your quick response.
I appreciate your process of comparison between the different eyeliners, it will save me time and $ spent on trying to find a long lasting eyeliner for waterline use. Thank you for sharing your results & helpful tips.
I rarely tightline but love your videos. I love Rimmel Scandal Eyes liners, they last very well as a traditional liner. I will have to try Milani. Speaking of Clio, have you tried their Kill Lash Waterproof (obviously) mascara? The wand is tiny and very effective, beautiful results. It's somewhat difficult to remove though, even with a cleansing balm.
I've been using liner in my waterline for 20 plus years. I will say this, most all of them I've ever tried transfer on to my lower lash line....almost immediately. I think it has something to do with the shape of my eyes and that some people might have the problem more (or less) then others because of this.
Hi..thank you for the video and info. I have issues so much so..can't use mascara. If the eyeliners last on the inside of the eyelid, it willl certainly last on the outside of the upper eyelid. Ny fav us Bobbie Brown long wear eyeliner in black.. mahalo!
I found one that works pretty well. Persona 24 hr waterproof eye pencil. It glides one like butter and stays on most of a 10 hr day. Especially on the top water line. I have very watery eyes in mornings

Yes you are correct on Urban Decay.
@robinp2039 she did Pixi liners in her previous video and it was one of the worst. They wear off fast on me too, only a few hours and poof!
Haha! I’ll definitely rock on! I love that tip!
Oh wow! Great idea. I'm definitely going to try this tip. Thank you. 😃

Do you mean put the eyeshadow powder inside of the eye (water line)?
So glad you did this video. I have been searching forever for a good liner. I love the Milani
Oh my goodness! I never knew it pulled out. Thanks for the tip!
@@MindfulMidlife YW. I personally find those sharpeners useless. 😅
Excellent informative video!!! I don’t see anyone else do this type of video, so thank you so much!! ♥️🥰
I ❤ love the Milani! Thank you so much for the review.
It is better than all the other expensive brands of eyeliner I have used in the past.
I tight line all the time. I highly recommend the Victoria Beckham liners (yes, high end) or the Hourglass liners. Both high end but it’s my eyes and both wear beautifully.
I’m with you! I stopped buying that drugstore crap when I was still in high school! Spend the money!
Nice video. Everything transfers on my lower line, so I started using waterproof liner only and it definitely helps.
I have always used eyeliner on my waterline since I can remember I've never had a problem with my eyes love you videos you go girl
I love the Maybelline New York Master Precise Skinny Gel Liner (the pink pencil) in black or brown…once it dries, it is good all day!
Thank you!
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
The Milani has both the smudge end and a sharpener. Very versatile product.
Thank you so much for this video! This was so needed. I’ll watch your first testing eyeliners video next. My favorite so far for tightlining is the WnW breakup proof liner.
I have been tight lining my eyes about 6 days a week since I was 18. I'm 60 now. Never a problem or reaction.
Hi,
Just saw your video.
Thank you for a most useful video. It is helpful to know how products last and not just how they apply initially.
Too Faced Killer Eyeliners are good too.
Thank you for this. I often have watery eyes due to allergies so I 've been searching for just the right eyeliner. I'm tired of my liner being smeared across my face before midday. lol So far I haven't found one (and I've tried several different brands). I may try Milani and see how that goes.
Thank you sooo much for doing this. I have struggled with many disappointing eye inners
You have given me hope for one that works
Thanks for all your tips. I don't tightline, but I do use an eyeliner on my waterline on my bottom lashline. I find it very hard to find one that applies well and stays put all day. A lot of them don't even give off pigment, like you had with the Elf one.
I’ve been wondering which pencil best for tight line. I had one that was difficult to get on. But, the ulta beauty brand works very well. I will now try the milani brand.
So thankful that you do these videos!! Thanks for taking one for the team, LOL
I'm a retired Esthetician/Instructor
Makeup geek lover and I work at ULTA p/t and yes I still needed ur video as I have an arsenal of pencils but not the Milani 😂, go figure. Can't wait to watch what else you have to share❤elanie
I also like the Persona eyeliner, but it's more expensive. It's darker and I've had no issues with it transferring!
I bought the Milani based on your review and I love it...bought 3 colors
Hello ❤ loved you video so much 🎉
Can you please do this kind of research of white/flesh tone long lasting eyeliner pencils for our lower waterline?
Old fashioned Ponds Cold Cream is a cheaper easy cleanser for eye makeup removal. 50 years for me, and in meantime have had double cataract surgery.
If you get revolution where you are ,try the kohl eyeliner. Best one i have bought x
I love the Milano one too- and I've tried them all..
Would you consider doing a video on eyelid primers? Now that I’m older, It’s tough finding one that prevents my shadow from creasing .
Thank you so much 😊 from Houston, after watching your video I bought 1 Milani input right away that’s amazing
Much love from TX
I appreciate your process of comparison between the different eyeliners, it will save me time and $ spent on trying to find a long lasting eyeliner for waterline use. Thank you for sharing your results & helpful tips.
I used Julep from Amazon and it barely moved on water line. Best I’ve ever used. The rest all transferred
Correction. Pacifica lol. It’s the best
Oh my gosh, thank you for this video! (and the first one!)
Thank you for all your work on this video. I as well always trying to find a pencil. 😊
I'm curious now I have Milani n persona I'm going to test them together tm! Thx
I tend to tight line when I go out, once a week or so. I’m also trying to press the color more in my lash line for a similar effect.
Excellent video. Thank you.
I have the Clio Sharp So Simple eyeliner is really waterproof if you let it dry. Wow!
I've been using liner in my waterline for 20 plus years. I will say this, most all of them I've ever tried transfer on to my lower lash line....almost immediately. I think it has something to do with the shape of my eyes and that some people might have the problem more (or less) then others because of this.
Thank you for another detailed video about eyeliners! I'm excited to try out the winners!
I like Urban Decay pencil liners, esp the 24/7 one, for the waterline. Bobbi Brown shadow sticks, the darker ones, work well too.
Thank you this video. I was looking for the best eyeliner. 😊
I appreciate you doing this video. I’ll try Milani. Maybe some who criticize should make their own video.
😂
Hi..thank you for the video and info. I have issues so much so..can't use mascara. If the eyeliners last on the inside of the eyelid, it willl certainly last on the outside of the upper eyelid. Ny fav us Bobbie Brown long wear eyeliner in black.. mahalo!
I found one that works pretty well. Persona 24 hr waterproof eye pencil. It glides one like butter and stays on most of a 10 hr day. Especially on the top water line. I have very watery eyes in mornings
Thank you much for adding when the product is cruelty free :)
I appreciate you ❤
Thank you for taking your time to do this video
Don’t stop
I use L’Oréal Infallible Gel Lacquer. It’s in a pot and you use a eyeliner brush. This stays ALL DAY!! I’ve been using this on my waterline for years.
Many thanks. I would guess staying power also revolves around eyes watering.
I don’t tight line. I enjoy your videos so much. You’re fun 🥳 and informative! I like reading the comments everyone is very nice🥰
Great job! Thanks for testing these for us!
