I’m new to the hobby (have been looking into it since May) & recently added a group of 6 to my newly cycled tank. They were eating within hours & their colouration was vibrant after the first few hours. Tested my parameters the next day & they were all on point (I do have plants to help with this) so the following day I went and bought 4 more. Same story with these new ones.
So from my experience they are very good beginner fish even into a newly cycled tank. As always it comes down to individual experience but I feel I need to express this for people thinking of getting them as if I’d watched this video beforehand you would’ve scared me right off of them

You are very lucky to have a Tropical Fish Store where the breeder is selling your source strong stock! Also there are three species. Rummy-nose tetras are small, freshwater, tropical fish often kept in aquaria. Three species are commonly called this name: Hemigrammus rhodostomus, Hemigrammus bleheri, and Petitella georgiae, but the latter two are called firehead tetra and false rummy-nose tetra, respectively. The third is the stronger of the three and not as common. You can tell only by the tail how broad it is which you have. All three are so similar that if you are not aware of which is your specie you can luck out and get the stronger of the three. Either way you are lucky as these fish have been over breed and weakened! I have some that I have had two year that are the Petittelle George Species. Nice to hear a good story and thank you! I am not trying to discourage hobbyist just make them aware that you need to know the history of the fish you are buying. Once they adapt to a tank they are bullet proof, it is just that first 2-3 days for Ich potential! Good luck and enjoy! Please subscribe and share!

I found this video the day after adding 6 rummy's and 3 clown kili's to my 30g that's been cycling with 10-12 plants and around 10 crystal red shrimp for about 3 weeks... So far so good. Hopefully I didn't stress the little guys too much. PH 6.6, but the hardness is fairly high... around 350 EC on my meter. I just got a RO/DI filter last week, so the hardness should be coming down. Wish me luck!

Again thank you for the sweet message. Quote of the day. This will be in my new "life Quotes To Live By" Book coming in 2021
Fate is an unknown journey into the yet to be discovered destiny of each of our hearts. A journey which starts with the belief that if we hang on to the one thing that compels us to seek what we believe is our providence or predestination, that life will somehow find that undiscovered adventure that was preordained from the moment of our conception and that which we seek will ultimately find us. Believe in "Divine Providence" and that life is not scripted or prescribed by man but instead by forces that are beyond our control. If we look closely or pay attention to what the heart feels, we will find the glorious intervention we call fate… a manifestation conceived as omnisciently directing the universe and the affairs of humankind with wise benevolence. ~ George Wheeler

We have a 20 gallon long, values have been very very stable so we've added our first three couple days ago, carefully working our way up to seven.
Doing daily tests to monitor their impact on the water quality and watching their feeding diligently, so far they're showing good eating behavior and exploring the tank fine for the first 48 hours.
Their colour came back right away after transport and acclimating too!
They do have a tendency to hang out in the heavier planted area of the tank (probably because they're so few in numbers at the moment) but they come out for a little adventure to scourge the bottom of the tank for left-overs or hang out in the filter flow.
Great tips, thank you for uploading and sharing your experience.

Would I be able to keep 30 of them in a 40 breeder? I have a Fluval 306 canister filter, and 2 sponge filters. The only tank mates would be around 5-8 grown guppies, a gourami, and a common pleco. The tank has lots and lots of plants lol.

Again all seems like a great balance but it took me three times to keep the 20 or do that I have. Make sure you get from a good supplier and that they are not thin. No stress in a very dark bag you can bring to your store and also have them add some stress coat. I carry it with me so I always have some. Good luck.

I just got my first rummy nose tetras today. I had no idea they should be wild caught but I did buy from a local mom and pop type shop that has a good reputation. I only got 6 because I only have a 20 gallon well established tank that I have had going for 3 years with no issues. I have some plants. I moved the guppies that were in there into my 10 gallon. One of the tetras had faded colors and was by itself. It’s now back to normal. Should I get a few more? They will be the only fish in there except for the snail. I just feel at full size even 6 is a lot for 20 gallons.

They are hard to keep unless you get them past the Quarantine and transport phase. Then they are very hardy. It is a mystery to me why they do this. Wilds seem to de better because their DNA is stronger and they transport and quarantine better. Always ask the supplier if Tank raised or wild. If he doesn't know then go somewhere else to buy. Sorry that happened to you. It took me a long time to figure out these fish and why they just die so quickly. I have learned a lot and use Stress guard from Seachem when transporting them and Neon Teras as well. This seems to make a big difference. Good luck.

About 2 months ago I got 8 of them to add to my 30 gal tank which already have a school of neon tetras. directly added them without quarantining them. they started dying one by one and by each day and only 2 are alive now. one neon tetra also died out of 12. So last week i got 8 of them again and put them in 10 gal quarantine tank. same thing again only 3 left now after 4 days. should see if anything survives. Dont know whats going wrong. I slowly acclimate them with tank water and keep the lights off for a whole day. when i try to feed them they swim all over the tank like they are scared. Feels bad man :(

They can be hard! Check your water parameters. Ammonia, Nitrates and nitrites. I have 25 now and they are doing great! Also when you purchase make sure the store is very clean, well kept up and their water is well cared for. I can’t explain why some just don’t do well but Stress is on my list of #1 killers of these fish. Once they settle in they seem to be bulletproof! Make sure that they are healthy looking and schooling as well. Bring a small bottle of stress coat with you and have them allow you to put them in the bag. They should allow you to do that if not don’t purchase. Bring a black plastic bag with you as well so they remain calm. I have seen then die as they were being netted in the store. Good luck.

Can you suggest some fish which are resistant to NEW TANK syndrome..
    1. I'm a beginner and bought a tank 20 days ago (waiting for silicone to cure). I put sand and driftwood to soak in plastic tub at the same time for acclimating.
    2. I'll be setting up substrate and hardscape tomorrow in tank and do 70% water change for next 3 days (to get rid of excessive ammonia and dust particles)
    3. On 4th day planning to add filter and some pothos plants to help cycle the tank naturally and daily 30-50% water change for 2-3 days depending on how dirty water looks
    4. Then add aquatic plants and leave it for whole month of Feb with weekly water changes of 30-50%
    5. Basically I'll add fish in March 1st week, I think the tank will be well cycled by then.

    • @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
      @aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You should have no problem and nitrogen cycle should be well completed! There is no bulletproof fish for a new tank! Add your bottom feeders and algae eater such as Cory’s, Siamese’s Alga eaters and a bristle nose Pleco for the first two weeks to harden your tanks cycle. Then add your showcase fish later! How big is this tank as well?

I recently lost a small school of these fish. I had intended to quarantine them before putting them in my main display tank (125g planted tank). I had purchased 8 of them for a 20gallon quarantine setup (no substrate and PVC pipes for cover) They all died one at a time over the course of 8 days. It was very saddening. How can these fish be quarantined to prevent disease being brought to the display tank?

I have been lucky to get a good school after several attempts. Watch for thin unhealthy looking fish and make sure they are going into a tank that is 86 degrees as Ich is their biggest enemy! Many say they have no problem, but if they are new to the store stay away from them. Find a good supplier who has quarantined for several weeks. Transporting seems to be stressful so make sure you bring a very dark black bag to put their bag in and ask them to put some stress coat in for you. If they are a reputable store they will be glad to do this for you! When you get them home be slow to acclimate them over several hours in a quiet environment. Then when you have them in the tank use Paraguard for three days and keep lights low and turn them up gradually over s few days. Lots of hiding places as well. If you get this far they are truly bullet proof. I don’t care what anyone one tells you they are hard to get home and get them settled but once you do they are a beautiful fish to watch. Please like and Subscribe. Good luck.
