    Mark I'm very impressed I have breed a lot of fish but Rummy Nose always eluded me no matter how often I tried. But at Seventy years old I am going to try again will let you know how I get on.

    ''Rummy-nose tetras present serious challenges even to experienced aquarists from the standpoint of breeding, primarily due to two factors: the likelihood of sterility ensuing if the prospective parents are maintained in water with too high a level of dissolved calcium ions, and the slow growth rate of the fry. An additional problem is that gender differentiation is difficult by visual inspection alone, making pair selection partly a matter of luck unless an obviously gravid female is available for selection.'' - Wikipedia.

    Dear Mark, thank you so much for all your tips and clues! It’s very helpful for me. I would love to buy some of your fish, unfortunately you are too far away.
    But I have some questions:
    - rummy noses are very sensitive fish. how do you get them in/out of the tanks easily? In particular in bench tanks?
    - if you condition your fish in the bench tank, how do handle the snail explosion?
    - How long have the tetras to be fed 3x/day?
    - when can the baby tetras be replaced into the bench tank?
    I’m sorry for all my questions but I see my neon and rummy nose Tetra spawning all day long and now I wanna try it for myself. It’s way more fun than just to buy them. And cheaper (here in my place).
    Look forward for new videos.

    I had ich recently and my Rummies died one-by-one, after treatment. All my other fish are eating and doing well. I love these fish but I daren't get any now. I don't know if it was the ich treatment, or the ich itself, or something I'm doing wrong? The treatment was 'lovefish parasite' I had seven CardinalTetra and four died. They were the last fish to be added to the tank, about a week before. I noticed the white spots on the Cardinal tetra and treated immediately and although the Rummies had no white spots they died.

    i failed with rn tetras years ago mark but as always the skill was there but luck as usual dealt a cruel blow its a family trait for example my dad was a waster temptations named one of their hits after him papa was a rolling stone but all credit to him he decided to atone for on his deathbed he admitted to3 unsolved murders in glasgow just to give the families closure on these brutal slayings guess what he recovered the following day he is now serving 3 life sentences in barlinnie high security jail glasgow i dont visit him he is very sullen 😘

    I am hoping to see you breed diamond tetras. I dont have any breeding caves in with my bristlenose as it would be impossible for me to rehome them. They (2 male and 1 female albino bristlenose, and 1 male and 1 female common bristlenose) are in my tropical tank with angelfish, corydoras, assorted tetras and gold barbs. There is rock work and driftwood for them to scurry over and sit under.

    Random but serious question..
    If we use leaves to increase tannins then why not just drop a tea bag behind the filter ?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you could do this. I take it you mean a tea bag of almond leaves.

    • @mikestewart3489
      @mikestewart3489 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MARKSAQUATICS No mate, I meant actual tea bags straight out of the box.
      They colour the water and are full of Tannin so why not ?
      Is it because of fertilisers used or the caffeine content maybe ?
      We could make a jug of black tea using tank water and just add that.
      Just wondering ( won't be trying it on my fish though )

    Another video to make me go hmmm. I'll have to give them a try. One point a lot of tetras do have problems with high dissolved solids. Locally the big box stores salt their water to ridicolus levels. Testing it with a cheap swing arm hygrometer tells me they are running there tanks at half strength sea water! In other words I try to avoid buying cardinals that have a clear plastic cup of salt in the tank. I really miss my old houses water it came out of the well at a pH of 4,5 and with aeration it went to about 6 TDS was around 15. Perfect tetra water. What is the TDS of your water? I'm just wondering . Have to try to set up the black phantoms this week.
    You should really try breeding rainbow fish. They will really put your infusoria culutring skills to the test. The nicest thing about them is once they get big enough to take baby brine shrimp the will accept finely powdered fish food.

      @@MARKSAQUATICS Thanks for the reply!! So they were all good? From what I have read, green neon and rummynose are very hard to raise. Thing is, those are the 2 I want to make more of!
      If you could answer 1 more, I have tried the stinky infusoria twice and the stunk terrible but after 2 weeks, still no clearness. My cories did ok on first bites.. would that still be too big for the teeny tetras? Or should I keep trying with infusoria?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MASSCONFUS1ON yes you'll need infusoria for the tetra fry. Try making a culture up using a piece of banana skin. Just fill a jar with tank water add the skin and some moss or plant from your tank. 😊👍
