This is by far my favorite tetra. I've ordered in bulk from online sources and had 75% die off. I just ordered 17 platinums from you and only lost one. I was surprised to find 17 little individually bagged fish, definitely worth the extra price.
I bet they dose a small bit of Prime in their water too or something before they ship it. Very well done it sounds like. Sounds like a great company TBH. I just got back from a local store and they had ammonia burn on all of their rummynose.
@@brandhark7935 I believe they have a video of their packing process. They seem to give the same care to a $7 tetra that they give to a $150 pleco. I met Dan at a convention once and he's genuinely passionate about what he does in regards to fish health and quality.
Not enough green on Dan's head and face. I hardly recognize him looking all human like this. I loved my rummy nose tetras when I had them. They were great to watch zooming back and forth in the 90.
I, too, miss the Skrull-like green shine 😂
Love the species rating format, would love to see more of them! Rummynoses are a fish I only started keeping in the last year, and they really impressed me with their behavior and overall presentation in the aquarium.
Rummy nose are so beautiful in their big tight schools!! If I ever do a big tank, they're my #1!
About 5 pm each night, my rummynose tetras start schooling tightly & fast, back and forth, at the front of the tank, with their heads tilted up at the exact same ~30 degree angle against my filter current for about half an hour. A sight to behold. ❤❤❤
Funny, mine do the same in the evening shortly before the lights go off
The best schooling fish!
Very tempting! Ha! Ha! Ha! You are good. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed watching.
✨Hope you reach 30k ASAP! wishing you ALL the Best! ✨
Love this style of video! Do all the species profiles so I can just send people your way who want them!
Deal!
I have a large school of these 27 at best guess. I have had them for 5 years. I have lost 3 that I know of but they are still doing good. I love these fish.
I really like this type of spotlight dan plz do more like this! Like #87 but i really liked it a million🙂👍🏻
Thank you for the informative video Dan. I always avoided getting these because I heard they were so hard to keep. Maybe I will give them a try.
I’ve just started my fist tank and I got 12 rummy nose as my first fish and so far so good just test the water daily for the first few weeks they look amazing against a dark substrate and background
Glad to hear they are working out for you.
Omg! I just discovered this fish today and I am obsessed 😍 sooo pretty
Yep...they are one of the good ones for sure!
Really liking this format, but when they are a schooling a suggested number of fish and size would be helpful. Also more views of the fish while you are talking Dan! 😅
Usually for shoaling fish you'll want six as a bare minimum, eight to ten being preferred if possible
For tank size, assuming that's what you meant, it can vary, but I'd say a general rule of thumb would be at least a 20 long for most small (1-2 inch fish like most rasboras, danios, and smaller tetras) and at least a three foot tank for more 'mid-sized' species (closer to three inches like larger tetras, barbs, and livebearers)
Hope this helps!
Think you may of just tempted me with some for my 100 gal 6ft planted........thanks Dan
Buy them from a good pet shop or online dealer. Mine our 2 to 5 years old. I buy a few every so often and that way they adopt very quickly with my older group of rummies. I do small water changes weekly.
6.5 ph and lower to sequester ammonia;)❤
I like the lesson hit the like button guys 🎉
Awesome Dan& crew. Love this type of videos 🤙🏽
such a fabulous video, Dan and co.! I hope you make more of this style of video!
Just finished watching this vid, first I've seen for your channel, and I like what I see!
Very helpful information, stuff I agree with based on what I've heard about them, and even got learn a bit of new information too, and I just love the rating system! Can't wait to see more vids from you guys
I started fish keeping about 5 months ago, I have (I'm told) had a better than average beginner experience than a lot of people.
Initially I had a Beta which I transitioned into a larger tank. Within a couple weeks I added raspora and neon tetras, finally a school of rummy nose. All was well until for some reason the beta died. I waited and watched my tanks before replacing it 2 weeks later. This time around I noticed almost immediately the rummy nose were territorial, fin nipping and aggressive to the new beta. So bad was it I had to get a fry net to keep separate whilst I cycled an additional tank for separation. In the time the beta was in the fry net the rummy nose would constantly attack the net like a shark cage. Every thing is now tranquil again with the beta out of the aquarium, but from this I would really be hesitant to add fish to an existing tank where the rummy nose have already established territory. Beyond that they are a stunning fish which I thoroughly enjoy.
How do they compare to having TIGER BARBS ?
Have a school of 25 in my 4 foot 120 gal with some black neons and apisto's/angelfish. Excellent tetra!
I find mine to be a good cleanup crew. It's a species only tank so far, but at least when undisturbed they swim about the substrate and pick up any leftovers. I'm a bit bummed out about them blending in with my light substrate (my own fault, but there will be a carpet anyways). But the coordinated swimming is great. They really give something to look at all the time. I do find that a varied diet is best though, after giving some peas to help with a bladder issue they really coloured up and got even more energy.
I don't think I've ever tried peas...thanks for the tip!
They are also very sensitive to water temperature…learned that the expensive way
From my experience, theyre sensitive towards water cleanness. Right after I dug up the substrate and dirt came out, many of my rummynose died instantly while the other fish were okay.
@@konliner9286 I just dealt with that this passed week! Very frustrating
I’m hoping to keep these fish someday, they’re fascinating.
My Tap water is 5.5pH and 0/0 GH & KH I have great luck with them. I do put crushed coral in my tanks, cause the PH is so low. Thanks Dan!
Great video format Dan. I'm puzzled as to why your channel only has 25k subs 😮
I love my rummynose tetras! They are quite hardy! I have about 30 of them.
Negative space? Open space surely!
Sorry. "Negative space" is what we called it in the art world. I guess it got stuck in my brain that way.
Nice.
So when you getting the platinum rummy nose in and how much they usually go for in pack of 10 or 20
Hope to buy the platinum want like 15 and the 15 bloodfin glass tetra
How much for a hundred of them on a bulk order?
I HEARD YOU ARE FROM ALASKA IS THAT TRUE!!!!!!!!! I LIVE IN ANCHORAGE, THATS SO WILD TO ME THAT IVE BEEN WATCHING FOR A WHILE AND NEVER KNEW
Jonny is from Alaska. Dan is from California.
Not sure how most fish peeps are when they hit new fish. I have a 10 gallon quarantine tank I hold fish in before putting them into my display tank's. How many would be safe? I have a 40 gallon breeder so even if I have to buy 2 separate batches and quarantine each..I'm willing to do that.
How many in 10 gallons? It depends on how the 10 gallon is setup, but I think you could get 10-20 in there for quarantine as long as the tanks ecosystem can digest the amount of food you would feed them. That's the real variable.
Pff... now i'm hesitating between cardinal tetra's and rummynose's again 😅
It is an incredible, beautiful and shoaling fish. But I regret getting it because my aquarium doesn't have a lid. I started with 15 fish 3 months ago, today only 6 rummynose. OMG. That's it, buy a lid. I have other tetras, black phantom, serpae, red phantom and they don't jump as much as rummynose
My rummynose tetras do not jump🤔
@@lenperf2495My Rummynose don't jump either. However, they can jump out of the aquarium if you put the water level too high.
