Hey, this is the closest I have to talking to an expert on fish, I have two oranda goldfish, they’re pretty new and I’m new to fish keeping.
The two are in a tank large enough for them each to have personal space, with a more than adequate filter, some rocks and plants.
But the smaller of the two has constantly had issues with floating up and struggling to swim down, I’ve noticed a little reluctance using a front fin. This one also appears to sleep a lot but is more than happy to eat. I’ve noticed these issues since I got him but they were the last two Orandas and I couldn’t leave one on its own.
There’s nothing else in the tank but these two, I change the water pretty consistently, I have the QuickStart stuff (wonder who suggested that), the light isn’t on for too long.
A part from sleeping a lot and swimming oddly he seems to be doing alright so I think it’s more of an injury, stress or deformity than any kind of sickness considering the other is fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can tell a master aquascaper when he can just chuck some random plants in his goldfish tank and it still looks better than anything you spent hours setting up yourself.

I think most people can’t afford to have as many plants from the get-go for so many tanks, so most of us are forced to start with an ugly tank and wait for it to grow in.

My GF don’t eat their plants, but they do sometimes dig around the base of the Vals. The only thing I can’t grow in their tank is duckweed because they demolish it before it gets chance to takes off, even though they’re fed daily on a variety of flakes, pellets, live and or frozen food they still have room for duckweed. In fact, they kinda remind me of me with pudding, I always have room for a few spoons full 😋however full I feel 😂
I only grow plants in the background though because I don’t want to take swim room away from them but they do enjoy going to the back and swimming though them.
Your GF tank is looking good already with those plants added in. You always do a great job.

I had 2 Bettas that would let the filter intake suck them to it.. I didn't like it but they NEVER got hurt as it's a very low flow filter. I think it made them feel safe or something of the sorts. Maybe they felt secure being help in place. They would always swim away when food was added so I just let them be. Bettas are amazing fish for sure..

I had a lightly planted goldfish aquarium a long time ago and they never ate the plants. In my experience it just depends on the goldfish itself (as all goldfish are individuals, some may bother plants and some may not) Aswell as the species of plants you have. I personally aim for plants with thicker broad leaves that they're less likely to bother. I wish more people would try planted goldfish tanks, they can look cool.

I have Anubias and Java Fern in my goldfish tank, but I glue them to the rocks so the goldfish can’t dig them up. Also a carpet of pearl weed would not be good because goldfish like to sift the gravel and they won’t be able to. Not every tank needs to have a lunch plant carpet. The tank needs to fit the fish that are in it.

Riding a bike in the snow without a mask. Yeah you aren't used to the snow lol. I love depriving dwarf sag of light to get it that tall. It's my most successful plant no matter my parameters.

If the plants are thick then the goldfish won't eat them.

I tried EVERY plant with my goldfish, including the ones that are supposed to taste bad for them. They ate everything.

Happy new year! Beautiful plants, it's a pity if they were destroyed. I can't wait to see further updates regarding this experiment.

Java fern, valisneria, and larger anubias varieties have all worked well for me with goldfish. The valisneria you have to be a little careful to keep them from uprooting it

Java fern is all that survives in mine, sadly my goldfish got a taste for my anubias and it’s all gone now. That being said they are now about 17 cm long in a 4ft tank

Nice work MD. I also have a planted fancy goldfish 110 gallon tank. I only put tough and hardy plants like Anubias Barteri, crinum, cryptocoryne and swords. I have several big fancy rare goldfish in it and for a year now, the plants are still there and thriving.
By the way, I subscribed with your channel and notification is on but I never get notified with any of your content! Just to let you know. But thanks for making contents for fish hobbyists.

The betta need a leafy plant that has a leaf sitting under the waterline. They need places to rest near the surface and if don’t have any will rest at the bottom or anywhere else they can find.

Drove to work after the most recent patch of freezing rain- a good inch of ice on everything. Snow is nothing.
But if you even needed to travel through the Canadian Rockies- snow chains.

I think you could put lilys in with the goldfish, they usually don't chew on the in ponds, and a tank full of lilys would look pretty cool.
