    I've always felt like these guys experience more pressure than the PGA guys. Sure there's a ton of pressure when tournaments and majors are at stake, but those dudes are obviously rich. Real pressure is needing to sink a 6 footer to pay the bills.

    • @AcessDBpro
      @AcessDBpro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@jakob4371 Alex Green: Lee Trevino said it best: Pressure is having to sink a seven-foot putt for ten dollars when you don't have a dime in your pocket.

      Playing well at any level induces pressure, and I always wonder if being a tour professional with a healthy bank account creates more pressure or less for them?! I often think if I had millions of dollars in my bank account that I'd be less inclined to worry about winning all the time, versus struggling to win my local qualifier to get into a tour event, or even an event at my local municipal for bragging rights and pride. Be sure to check out my golf blog at digitoutofthedirt1953.blogspot.com.

    To put it into perspective for a "weekend warrior" like myself....to play Tarandowah 3 days + gas + food, would be around $250 (Tarandowah is one of the cheaper quality tracks around)....and no chance to win anything back. Golf is expensive, but I LOVE it!

    Great info. I played the Golf Channel AM Tour for a season and was surprise by the costs with those tournaments. They were charging us $100 to play a $50 course and the prize money didn't even cover the costs of the tourney's. And if you're in a small category (Over 50 with 3 handicap) you got placed against the scratch players. Tough gig!

    Even tougher with a full time job. You didn't even touch on practice rounds (which aren't included or free) and good luck playing well going in blind. You still need a home course to hang your hat. Membership costs plus a range membership are other cost factors that aren't weekly but could easily be broken down weekly. Balls, gloves, shoes ... even hats wear and get crappy looking when you play and practice enough to get decent. Tournament golf is not for the faint of heart.

  • @1scratchgolfer
    @1scratchgolfer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That doesn't even include a practice round green fee on the tournament course. It's awfully tough to be competitive on any golf course playing it sight-unseen / played it once last year etc. Also, tournaments are held during weekdays which, for most people, are work days. So now you're booking vacation days to play golf tournaments. It's a huge undertaking, IMHO. Best of luck Andrew.

    I did mini tours back in 2002 to 2007. It does cost a lot but it's fun and stressful at the same time. I made over 80,000 each year problem is I spent nearly that much in fees, travel, balls, gloves, food, lodging and gas. I also worked pretty much full time during. It's tough. Best of luck to you and enjoy the journey.

    Sounds like tough life. Only few on web.com tour make money. Most on PGA tour make money. I think if you can't constantly shoot -4 for 7,400 yards, there is really no need to waste money to play that many tournaments. On your home course if you shoot -4 on 7,400 yards means you probably can shoot on par on tournaments.

    • @davidcurtis4478
      @davidcurtis4478 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Jensen - it's hard finding sponsors eventually I got them, then the real work starts! for you being in Canada I'm not sure how the land lies out there as I was in both U.K. And USA playing events in each side of pond. NGA Tour is good but expensive - entrance like $1,700 per event I think now is $2,000. Web.com Monday Qualifiers were great! Only around $250 entrance fee and if you qualify great! If not move onto next. If I was doing it again full time I'd focus on Web.com Monday Q's. As for sponsors - get some personal relationships with CEO's that's what I did. Check out my GOLF VIDEO on my 'Drum' Channel ;) AVG drive was 330 yards right down middle. Dude FOCUS on your short game!! If my short game was better I would've been winning everything as all other areas were SOLID! Keep in touch and I'll keep my eye on your YT Channel. All the best! Remember there's guys all around shooting 20-25 under! It's crazy how good it is out there. Dream but dream wi h a wise head! Now get on that short game area! 👍 DC

    In my opinion, Golf is the hardest sport to learn, and the hardest one to go pro in. There’s no draft, and there’s no guaranteed sponsorships. There’s even no longer a Q School. You have to work your way in, one tournament at at time. It’s brutal.

    Don’t think you should add food as a tournament expense... since you need to purchase / eat food regardless

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, got to disagree with you. When making any budget, for any vocation, food is always a line item. It’s also a write off come tax season, therefore it’s a necessary expense to account for in this career.

    • @AndyNick211
      @AndyNick211 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Jensen Thanks for the reply. Understand your point of view come tax season...just pointing out from a practical standpoint that 99% of people don’t get their meals covered by an employer regardless of career, so I don’t view it as a tournament specific expense. It’s a “living and breathing” expense. Keep up the great videos!

      +conor clarke getting on them is easy, you just have to pay the entry fees. Getting sponsorship is much harder. It's a combination of luck, hard work, good golf, and knowing/meeting the right people that believe in you and are willing to financially aid you.

    Totalling up food isn't a real golf expense. You would eat whatever you were doing or wherever you were.

    • @andrewjensengolf
      @andrewjensengolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It absolutely is for us on the lower level tours. Don't forget, we don't have the luxury of a steady income week to week, allowing us to budget food like someone with a 9 to 5. We have to eat according to our budget and living arrangements every week. Hotel means eating out more, staying with friends or in an AirBnb means a kitchen and the opportunity of cooking. My food expenses are much different when at home with my full kitchen vs being on the road and having to eat out most of the meals. I understand what your saying, but we still have to throw food in the budget when planning out our years expenses, especially when it comes to seeking out sponsorships or private financial backing to offset those expenses. The purpose of this vlog was to showcase any and all expenses that go into a week on "tour". No stone left unturned.
