- Final 4 1982, Future NBA Greats & Hall Of Famers Michael The GOAT Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Sam Perkins, Hakeem (then known as "Akeem") Olajuwon & James Worthy... Even Sleepy Floyd was on the court.
Great game in a great time in college basketball history .
So many legends in this game.
These guys body control was what made them stand out athletes! Jordan, Worthy, Perkins, Black.....Olajuwon, Drexler, Rose, Williams.... That era of college basketball was Epic! 💪🏼
Worthy was a super beast at UNC! I remember back in the day when he would dunk on someone they would say that he would put them in the basket with the ball!
Worthy going to the basket at 1:30 with one hand like that reminds me of the late great Connie " The Hawk " Hawkins, someone i remember Worthy speaking very highly of in an interview.
No one closed like Worthy.
Big game James!!!!!!
Olajuwon only played 20 minutes this game and had just learned basketball the year before this in Africa.... And still became the #1 pick in 84'
yeah he became the number one pick only because during that era, everybody wanted a good center. If wasn't as tall as he was he would have been passed.
@@wallacesharpe196 lmao he was the college player of the year his last season with the cougars and was a rebounding, shot blocking, steals monster! That's why he was in the Finals his second season taking those Celtics that swept Jordan to game 6 of the Finals!
Yeah it's almost like a embiid story but olajuwon better on defense
You preach knowledge and he'd never been to Houston. His plans arrived in New York and when he felt the cold he went right back into the airport and came to Houston. The weather in Houston was more like Africa and he stayed
@@deebofleebo6427Hakeem was never College Player of the Year
Sadly, with the way things are, we'll never have this level of basketball in college ever again. The amount of future NBA all stars and hof's is amazing.
4 HOFs, 1 Great Roll Player, and 1 GOAT. Great stuff
What a great matchup this was!
Watching this game you might think Linden Rose was headed to NBA greatness...
worthy was a beast.
Keep bringing the flavor! Great video!
James "Big Game" Worthy was something else.
I’m sure I was watching this game as it unfolded...But here I am 41 years later wondering why Drexler was wearing the number 23. 🤷🏽♂️
Coach Lewis made his players wear even numbers in the home uniforms and odd numbers in the away uniforms except 00
All four of them was great. Players
Drexler had hair back in the day! 😂 He was great!
Don't sleep on Perkins!
Damn, that UNC team had some talent! Shame Worthy, Perkins, & MJ didn't get drafted by the same NBA team. They would have been challenging for Championships early on!
Actually in 92 NBA finals Worthy and Perkins played against Jordon when MJ won his first title..and the commentator said Dean S.ith had to be proud his national title team was on the court competing.
@@michaelfitzpatrick7107
It was the 1991 NBA Finals when Worthy and Perkins were with the Lakers against Jordan and the Bulls.
Rivals from college to the Pros to multifile Championships to Gold medal Olympics Champions to the HOF. Must of been nice lives to have lived.
Jerry West had a choice between Nique or Worthy to pair with Magic. Those two in their primes were ridiculous! He was really the piece that created what we now know as Showtime.
They're playing NBA-level basket ball !!!
Worthy was on a whole other level. For the championship game too.
No mention yet here of Rob Williams, who was the leading scorer on that Houston team and SWC player of the year in 1981. If he hadn't suddenly gone cold from the field against UNC after scoring 25 in the regional finals against BC, Houston would have won. If he had come back for his senior year in 1982-3, Houston might have been unbeatable. A lot of what-ifs. His pro career never took off in large part due to injuries.
Wrong! Rob's pro career never took off because he reported to Denver's camp 30lbs overweight. On top of that he was lazy and had a self-entitled attitude that had been perpetuated by Guy V. Then he got into drugs. His pro career was never going to take off. Story is that he was out partying the night before the Carolina game which is why he was a no show in that game. I will agree with you that IF he had returned for his senior year in '83 AND lived up to his potential UH would've been unbeatable. Rob is, to this day, the most talented player to ever play at UH.
GOAT NBA TEAM, Hakeem Olajuwon, C. Tim Duncan, PF. Larry Bird, SF. Michael Jordan,SG. Erving Johnson, PG... #2 TEAM, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, C. Robert Horry, PF. James Worthy, SF. Kobe Bryant, SG. Isiah Thomas, PG.
Phi Slams Jama went to 3 final fours in a row
They came up short in those 3 final fours in a row.
While jordan and unc only went to 1.
@@darrylnelson05 And they won that one so they had one title to Houston’s ….. Zero
@@alanaldpal950 Yes but any team can make a final and win it, but if they don't make it back again, then anyone can argue it a Cinderella run. No one can make an argument about Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas being Cinderellas since they appeared in 2 or 3 finals, and winning 1 of them.
@@jcpenny3606 I hope you are not saying Jordan’s UNC championship team was a Cinderella team
Trying to stop Jordan and Worthy is rough for anybody.
Worthy looked like he was 30 years old in college
Add those four together with Rodman you will never loose in today's soft NBA! It would be sweep after sweep!
wonder why drexler changed his number in the NBA to 22.. he was number 23 in UH..
Houston Cougars used to alternate numbers when they played at home and on the road. When they were home, they wore even numbers and odd on the road. If you noticed Hakeem (then Akeem) was wearing #35.
⛶ interesting... 22 and 23 for Drexler
Akeem 34 & 35
The title of this video is kind of misleading. At this time Akeem nor Drexler were the main man at U of H. Rob Williams name should've been in the title. Akeem didn't even jump ball at the beginning of the game so he wasn't even starting.
Rob Williams was their leading scorer, but Drexler and Dream were their best all around players.
@@ckobo84 Not true. Rob is the best player to ever suit up for UH. Period. More talent than any player on the court. Rob was just lazy and self-entitled which is why he never amounted to anything.
Michael Jeffrey Jordan is the goat
Glyde thinking he better or as good as MJ…crazy. MJ was better than him from this point on
Glyde never thought that
Well contrary to your belief, Jordan thought he was as good as him. Jordan didn't do anything at this point that showed he was better.
@@benyah3390 tell that to Bob Knight and Hubie Brown..beat it😂✌🏽
@@mannyneva1760sure, tell it to 2 people who are apart of the "Golden Goose" hype machine. Yeah, ok.
@@benyah3390 fk outta here fan girl truth hurts
It's a shame the Houston Rockets passed on The Glyde in the '83 draft. Sampson, Drexler, and Olajuwon would've won 10 straight ending Showtime and Larry's dynasties, and Detroit and Chicago would've never had a dynasty. Even if Sampson ended up hurt and Otis Thorpe still replaces him, Houston's dynasty would've started with beating The Bad Boys, or at the least; losing the 1st finals and winning the following 2, and Jordan & Pippen wouldn't win anything until at least in '97/'98 depending on if Olajuwon gets old or not.
I'm still baffled as how Drexler fell to #14 In the draft? Even a casual fan could see he was a top 2 talent in the draft along with Sampson. Drexler went head to head with Rodney McCray in the 1983 tournament and was clearly the better more dynamic player by a mile. Sure his jumpshot needed some polishing, but Jeez
@@ckobo84 I call it the Jordan conspiracy.
Great comment! But Sampson? Nah. Never liked him.
@@JoeKoOhNo I never liked Jordan, but I can't deny his greatness. Love him or hate him; Sampson and Olajuwon were those dudes. Throw in Drexler running with The Twin Towers, who's stopping them?
@@ckobo84 the answer to that depends on if you're stuck in the matrix or not, and a lot of it is due to Jordan already being selected as the nba's golden goose to carry on from Magic and Larry.
Don’t forget Sam vs Hakeem Sam was just good as any center/forward at that time. Also ,Portland could have drafted Jordan???? Can u imagine if air would have connected to with the glide!!!!!!!!!! They would have glided on the air over and over again
Olajuwon only played 20 minutes this game and had just learned basketball in Africa like a year before this
Houston could've drafted Clyde Drexler a year before in the '83 draft. It could've been Sampson, Drexler, and Olajuwon the following year.
@@benyah3390 Portland offered Drexler and the 2nd pick to Houston for Ralph Sampson. The Rockets could have had Jordan, Clyde and Olajuwon. But Houston turned it down. At that point, who could blame them. But OMG, just imagine.
This game is of Sam Perkins from nowhere.
