And, this would prove to be his "CAREER GAME" in college (little known tidbit). He also didn't dominate UVa and Ralph Sampson the following year, when Ralph and the Cavaliers outplayed the Hoyas. Nor did he dominate Villanova in the 1985 title game. Granted, he DID dominate most everyone else. And James made 28 points with 76% FG!!!!!! MJ did his part but I would not call this game his... even the 'winning' basket was more like happy coincidence for him, it turned out to be the winning one but when shot nobody guessed it will be the last goal, there was still plenty of time for more hits... So I would say this game had not a winning shot! I call a winning shot a shot in the last 1-3 seconds.

      In the mid 70's, the Lakers lost Baylor, West and Chamberland to retirement. They needed a top player so they traded 3 players to Milwaukee for Abdul-Jabbar. 2 years later the Lakers traded for Jamaal Wilkes and drafted Norm Nixon. 1978 they draft Michael Cooper. And from a 1977 trade the Lakers get the #1 pick in 1979 and draft Earvin Johnson. Over the next 7 years the team adds players either through the draft( McGee 81, Worthy 82, Green 85,) free agent signees(Kupchak, Rambis McAdoo 81, Woolridge 88, Perkins 90), or by trade(Scott 83, Thompson 87)

    well he didn't win until Scottie joined, and it still took four years after that for them to win together. In the first threepeat the big three were Scottie, MJ, and Ho Grant. Grant was a great role player, but he was by no means an "ALL TIME great." Rodman, who was definitely an all time great, didn't join the team until 95, by which time MJ and Scottie had already won three championships. So it's really more like MJ didn't win until he had another all time great with him.

      I.A. Ho Grant was a top 5 2 way power forward during that time period. 16 point 10 rebound guy who was a good to great defender. I see these comments on how weak those Bulls teams were in terms of top notch talent. They were well constructed they always had shooters, rugged rebounders and defenders who did there job to the hilt. Sort of like the Patriots the sum is greater than the parts. And I despised both dynasties even though I rooted for MJ at UNC and Brady at UM.

    At 9:14 worthy wow. Thought it was mj. So many greats on the floor at one time as babies ! Plus great coaches thompson & smith. Man ewing had 5 gold tends. What's amazing is ewing was better known as a defensive player in college. People were shocked he became such a great offensive player. Jordan worthy sleepy floyd & Ewing. What a great game of talent at the beginning . Ewing & jordan are teenagers ! Crazy. I can see why the nba cheated to put ewing on the Knicks. He was in the NCAA finals I believe all 4 years & they won the title against olajuwon at houston. Life is so crazy that 10 years later they would be in the finals. Worthy & jordan were deadly together. I love that when mj picked his all time 5 he chose worthy. Nice love for his college teammate. Jordan of course looked great.
    Man jordan hitting the game winner against ewings Hoyas. Poor patrick was gonna see that kid a lot in the future & never beat him. Worthy though was incredible. If he were on any other team but the lakers he would have been no. 1 scoring option & it's too bad he is forgotten a bit. Like I said I love that mj put him in his top 5 all time. He never forgot how great worthy was.
    Worthy went right into the pro's winning titles too.
    Lastly another goat was at North Carolina same time as Jordan , Lawrence taylor. Must be a great school to recruit all time greats.

      Three reasons: 1) UNC turned the ball over nonstop, 2) No one on that team was quick enough to keep up with Isiah, who picked apart their defense, 3) There was no shot clock back then, so Isiah had unlimited time to get his teammates in position to take open shots.

    • @johncooper2265
      @johncooper2265 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because Jordan's shot "won" the game as 61-62 just became 63-62. Brown's pass hurt Georgetown, but: a) there was no guarantee they were ever going to get off a decent shot, let alone score; and b) Worthy missed both of the ensuing FT attempts, still leaving G'Town with a last shot attempt to win it (albeit an attempt beyond half court).
      Couple of interesting tidbits, as I was actually AT this game: Jordan's last jumper from 17 feet out was the ONLY shot attempt UNC took from outside of 15 feet the entire game. G'Town applied an INSANE full court trap the entire game, which really wasn't that effective because UNC was prepped for it, and executed well against it. But G'Town DID create SOME turnovers out of their press, and contested EVERY shot attempt. IF you go back and rewatch the whole game you'll see that G'Town played HELLACIOUS DEFENSE the entire game, and they had the ultimate "rim protector" in Ewing. But, having squared off thrice that season against UVa and 7'4" Ralph Sampson had greatly benefitted UNC from a standpoint of NOT being intimidated. Two days prior to this game, UNC controlled Houston and their 7'0" manchild, Akeem Olujawon. So by this championship game, UNC's players weren't the least bit intimidated, and they were probably the only team in the country that wouldn't have gotten blown out by at least 25 points by the Hoyas. That's how insanely good Georgetown was that year, and how well they were playing. Trust me, their level of intimidation was palpable throughout the Superdome both Saturday in the Semis and Monday in the Finals. The intimidation factor hurt Louisville badly in the Semis, but unfortunately for G'Town, UNC's players and coaches weren't intimidated -even if the FANS WERE!! FWIW- The Hoyas' fans were well organized, and orchestrated an IMPRESSIVE MARCH from their team hotel to the Superdome all chanting "Hoya Saxa!" as they approached and entered the venue. Their fans' faces were painted, heads were shaved, etc. These guys set the original bar that Raiders fans would emulate once the team relocated to Oakland, and they made the Cameron Crazies look everybit like the pussies that they are. When people discuss the "Best team to NOT win it all", 1985 Georgetown is often cited because G'Town was a heavy favorite over 'Nova to repeat. But, this 1982 G'Town team was significantly more talented than the 1985 version. Last tidbit that'll shock most people: THIS '82 Championship Game was Ewing's CAREER GAME in college, just as it was Worthy's.

      The thing with Jordan was, he was a late bloomer, and he was younger than Worthy. You can see so of the influence in Jordan's game. Obvious Jordan was the best player in the long run. But it would interesting to see Worthy on a lousy team, and see what he would Apg.
