No, Joob was right in the video. The AIM-9E has FAR more in common with the AIM-9J. The AIM-9J is basically an AIM-9E with different fins. 9E and 9J share a motor and seeker while the 9B and 9E have nothing in common at all.

Yep. Back in the day this was such a beast. Just mainly dodging aim-9e and B. (I was so new to radar tho that i didn’t know how tu switch acm and just used seeker mode. Wide cone; for the life of itni couldn’t dogfight with the aim-7D
Yea it somehow faces 35G missiles and if you are below Mach 1 and u r in 1km range of an Su-25 (1.7km in the A-10's nose), the phantom just can't dodge it
The Aim-7D is a tricky missile to use. It has a few qualities that pretty much make it effective only above 4000m altitude (for BR 10.0). I also don't like using them within 4k whenever I can since the missile has a good bit of minimum distance. I find employment at altitudes above 7000m and within 6-8km to be most optimal. Being at altitude also helps you avoid swarms of Su-25's and A-10's so you can come in from above and behind to destroy them. For the Br, I can't say the Aim-7D is bad, but it definitely has a more specific employment window than most radar missiles. I'll list the most impactful stats of the Aim-7D and Aim-9E below Aim-7D: Diameter - 200mm Mass - 182kg start --> 144kg end Motor - 41KN for 2.1 seconds (530m/s DeltaV max) Fin Angle - 14.4 degrees (13 degrees per second shift possible) G-Load - 15G Time Out - 1.8 second delay before tracking starts Uncage Limits - 15 degrees (45 after launch with 12 degrees per second track rate) Aim-9E: Diameter - 127mm Mass - 76.4kg start --> 57.5kg end Motor - 18.1KN for 2.2 seconds (598m/s DeltaV max) Fin Angle - 9.9 degrees (10.6 degrees per second shift possible) G-Load - 10G Time Out - 0.5 second delay before tracking starts Uncage Limits - 10 Degrees (40 after launch with 12 degrees per second track rate)
The aim 7D is tricky but at higher alts it can really stretch it's legs . Being CW it requires more brain to chaff effectively and at higher alts you don't see the all aspect gang to much anyway. It can hit targets out to 8 to 10 and sometimes if you're really high out to 15km . Carrying 4 without the gunpod means you're an absolute speed demon and that helps massively with these sparrows

The missile on the other hand is working in Doppler, commonly denoted as CW (Continuous Wave) in the seeker type description. This means the missile is not just looking for return size, but velocity (This is how most radar missiles in WT guide). And since the aircraft is moving towards the guidance radar, the missile sees it and not the chaff, even if the radar itself is decoyed (so long as you hold the lock). So, if you're traveling right at the radar, or a slight angle off and just start chaffing, your chaff means nothing to that missile. The missile itself can still be defeated by chaff. But it requires you to make a 90 degree right angle to the relevant guidance radar. Not 85 degrees, or 95 degrees, but 90 degrees. This is to reduce your relative velocity to the radar to as close to 0 as possible. If you're moving at a perfect 90, then the missile can't tell what's you and what's the ground or surrounding environment. This is called notching. This is a skill that will be instrumental as you increase in BR. Especially since Fox-3's like Aim-120 and R-77 are on the horizon and fast approaching.
Considering the F-5A is at a higher BR with just 2 AIM-9E and 2 Leaf Blowers as engines i fail to see why this thing is such garbage compared to others just because Flares are missing.
I'll say what I've always said when it comes to the 4-C, in its current state, 3 things could make it perform better 1. Decompression 2. Ahistorical flares, don't @ me because the F-5's get them, it would be a good gameplay improvement 3. Give it 7E's, so that it has a standout feature besides being a missile sponge
The F-5A and C's are premium/event planes. That's the only reason they got flares (the Taiwanese 5A actually used them though). They're not giving the 4C flares. If they were going to, they'd have done it already. But it won't make them any money directly, so they don't care.
Honestly, it carried a chaff pod, that’d help it a bunch (you can deal with ir missiles by turning and cutting throttle if you’re lucky), chaff would let it duel radar up high, it also used the aim7e2s irl

You know what planes I’ve been having the most fun with atm? The Su-7s. They all boast crazy climb rates, damn good top speed for their tier especially at altitude, combined with the NS-30s still hiting hard as hell (even post real shitter). Maybe it’s just me but playing them is as close to a breath of fresh air as I can get in Warthunder these days
I've always enjoyed them. I have a bunch of clips with them. Super fun planes. Way more maneuverable than most think. Tons of energy and acceleration, really good FM honestly. I just wish they would have made a variant that could actually carry AAM's. Or if one does exist, that they'd add it to the game. They also look really good too imo. Less ugly than a lot of Russian jets, especially attackers.
I adore the F4C, especially at its proper BR. The downside, however, and it's a very big downside, is that 85% of your teammates, at the time, were level 6-12 A-10/A6 pilots. Thus, making for challenging matches to say the least lol.

to dodge missiles easily without flares in F-4s you can use cut one engine apply rudder and elevator, EX y,5,5,1,1,s,q or y,5,5,2,1,s,e, you will pull an extra 1-2 gs when you cut your engine in f-4, in smaller twin engine planes Like f-5s youll see less than a1G but in f-14s you can see 3-4gs greater pull in these maneuvers, using a single cut engine. this is my highlighting a tool i would like to see you use, as i think it would make you truly unstoppable.
Bad missiles no flares at 10.3 for the longest time before it finally got dropped to 10.0? That's my first modern jet I was hardstuck at for well over a year. Bad times.

I honestly wish Gaijin would just add the F-4D Phantom II. And have it be the middle ground between the F4E and this. Plus it gets flares if you want to fly early Phantoms.
I can get a lock with the Mig-21's radar on an enemy plane at ground level, while in a dive with basically nothing but ground clutter but the F4C can't lock a plane at 2km against a clear blue sky to save its life. The last few matches I played I didn't even bring the Aim-7s with me because I could never fire them at an enemy and they'd miss even if I got a lock.
I think the F4C phantom should be at =9.7 so it can get good downtiers and all aspects carriers like A10 and SU-25 should be at at 10.3-10.7, so they can't be downtiered to the point they face subsonics like F86, A4B and that stuff.
I'd rather it stays where it is purely because 8 missiles at the speeds it can achieve is an absolute hell to face at 9.7 when it gets downtiered (as I have experienced, dodged 3 Aim-9Es only to get dunked on by an Aim7D because I have no countermeasures at 9.7 whilst an F4C was chasing me). Really there just needs to be some serious decompression... again. Edit: It actually has 8 MISSILES and can be down tiered to face stuff with no countermeasures already (much like certain toptier IR missile wielding premium boats)

this thing is good for ONE THING base bombing tasks load 4 napalm bombs, take 9 mins fuel or 20 mins on ec maps gets to bases quicker than anyone else, biggest threat is r60mk's in an uptier
It's the 14A with better engines, and 9L's. Those are the only changes that will effect you in air RB. Better than the A, not better than the F-16 or MiG-29, other than total missile quantity. Its not a video but if/when he makes one, that's exactly what he's going to say, almost guaranteed. As it's otherwise, exactly the same (again, for air RB only, not accounting for ground ordinance which you shouldn't be taking in air RB). Same radar. 54C will be marginally better, if they even change it from the A as it's currently copy paste. 7M is 7F copy paste. The only 2 real big advantages over the A is the engines and the 9L's instead of 9H's.
IMO to make F-4C competitive in current state of the game it should be replaced with F-4D variant that have countermeasures Also F-105D replaced with F-105F that have both flare and chaff Also since we got F-4S as premium, is that mean we will get F-4N in tech tree?
F4 c to me is like the Mirage 3 c, it's not a great plane, but 10.0 br is so stuff with prem players with brain rot you can probably still drop at least 2-3 kills a game
Here's my two cents since I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the F-4C can do well: Stay high and fast. I run 4 sparrows and 4 sidewinders, no gun pod or anything else. Allows me to hit mach 1.2+ at 20k feet and sling sparrows at the enemies who decide to come up to that altitude as well. If my missiles miss, no problem, I simply blow past them and they can't do anything to catch me if they try turning around to follow me. It's just a matter of finding targets that look appealing and trying to get the jump on them. In my experience, there's really nothing else that can catch you at that BR so as long as you keep your speed high and avoid going down low to catch an aim9l/r60m in the face, you are very difficult to kill.
you still will be just an easy frag for spsk a5c su25 and considering that f4 is always uptiered there is smt mf and other planes that wont give you any chances its THE WORST 1v1 plane at 10.0

At his BR, the F4-C is a pain until you get radar missiles. AIM-9Bs are useless, the plane can't dogfight and has no countermeasures. And faces all-aspect missiles. Everyone sees you as an easy kill
it's actully the best phantom for me, low repair cost, you can take full missile loadout with bomb enough to destroy a base + some ffar as counter measure, i can safely say this is probably the only jet that i never lose sl on(minus the stock grind of course) , pro tip dont install any upgrade except all those weapons to keep the repair cost low

It is not trash, imo it's competitive at 10.0, as u can see, if u playing this somehow correctly, u can get easily 5 kills game. This plane needs just different playstyle, because you are phantom without flares and with mid missiles :'))

some mig 21s 10.0 also carries missiles like r60 but they add the worst phantom model with thrash missiles to the game as a counterbalance to them
I love the F-4C. I hate everything that it gets for air to air, but I used 18 250 pound bombs to grind all of tier 6 and 7 with a talisman.

F4 c to me is like the Mirage 3 c, it's not a great plane, but 10.0 br is so stuff with prem players with brain rot you can probably still drop at least 2-3 kills a game

Here's my two cents since I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the F-4C can do well: Stay high and fast. I run 4 sparrows and 4 sidewinders, no gun pod or anything else. Allows me to hit mach 1.2+ at 20k feet and sling sparrows at the enemies who decide to come up to that altitude as well. If my missiles miss, no problem, I simply blow past them and they can't do anything to catch me if they try turning around to follow me. It's just a matter of finding targets that look appealing and trying to get the jump on them. In my experience, there's really nothing else that can catch you at that BR so as long as you keep your speed high and avoid going down low to catch an aim9l/r60m in the face, you are very difficult to kill.
you still will be just an easy frag for spsk a5c su25 and considering that f4 is always uptiered there is smt mf and other planes that wont give you any chances its THE WORST 1v1 plane at 10.0

At his BR, the F4-C is a pain until you get radar missiles. AIM-9Bs are useless, the plane can't dogfight and has no countermeasures. And faces all-aspect missiles. Everyone sees you as an easy kill

it's actully the best phantom for me, low repair cost, you can take full missile loadout with bomb enough to destroy a base + some ffar as counter measure, i can safely say this is probably the only jet that i never lose sl on(minus the stock grind of course) , pro tip dont install any upgrade except all those weapons to keep the repair cost low

Honestly this plane is very good. Easy 2-4 kills per game. Just climb up to 5-6km and use the sparrows when above Mach 1
The F-4c has no redeeming qualities. It should be removed from the game.

It is not trash, imo it's competitive at 10.0, as u can see, if u playing this somehow correctly, u can get easily 5 kills game. This plane needs just different playstyle, because you are phantom without flares and with mid missiles :'))
