    I don't understand Hollywood. They/them tell us men are intrinsically terrible and all women are stunning, brave and infallible but these same stunning, brave women are invariably portrayed as being hell bent on emulating the terrible acting men. They're writing for other women who are in Hollywood, and women in Hollywood all have Penis Envy. They all desperately want the authority and brass balls that men have but they want the entitlement and complete lack of responsibility of women. So, all women are written "strong & brave" but devoid of personalities (just like women in Hollywood) and men are emasculated, otherwise even regular men would make women look weak in comparison. They turn men into women and women into men.

      If you want a reccomendation for a modern fantasy story with an awesome female lead who doesn't have that exact problem, try reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. Vin, the female protagonist, has to pretend to be a noblewoman for much of it. Wearing dresses feels really weird to her at first, because she's a street child who's never done that before, but she comes to like them. She manages to be feminine as well as tough.

    • @ilikebeanies3499
      @ilikebeanies3499 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@ceinwenchandler4716 You know, now that I think of it (even though it's an older game) Alice Madness Returns is a great example of a feminine woman who still kicks ass.
      If you've never seen it, Alice from Alice in Wonderland (who has black hair and green eyes in the game) is a knife-wielding badass in Wonderland, cutting down enemies with ease. She does all of this adventuring in a dress that caters to the chapter of the game's theme. And when outside of Wonderland, in the "real world", she's soft-spoken and kind towards others more often than not. She's feminine but deadly, and pretty insane too. I love her in that game! It's better than the Disney adaptation (Tim Burton) where she hated dresses and didn't want to get married, the works.

      @@HerculesBallsInc I'm working on a story witch kinda has that going for it.
      It has a mentor character that favors boys over girls because we are fighting monsters here and men are have a huge advantage on that. Girls are basically let in because of lack of available boys. The main female character even without this feels inferior to her more overall gifted brother and her greatest wish is to beat her brother on this monster kicking hero business. Show to the mentor, no to everyone that she isn't a loser but a glorious hero like no one else.
      Thing is that she doesn't become a kickass warrior (that story line is her brother's) but an extraordinary support. She is forsed to admit she can't become a great warrior, she is physically too weak and has nothing to compensate for it. She learns not to feel bad that she can't be the knight in a shining armor slaying dragons, as she can still contribute to the success from the side. So she turns to learn anything helpful like healing, how to find and deliver information fast, how calm the guys down so they work together better, fixing clothes and tools, hide and cook. Her storyline is all about accepting what you can't do in favor what you can do. It might not be as glorious and many others can do what you do but it doesn't mean what you do is meaningless.

    My disappointment was unimaginable upon seeing the first 2 episodes. I imagine a grown up Elora Danin with long beautiful red hair, willow still using magic and being a father to her, maybe Mad Martigan sword fighting with his children. Im sick of the goddamn tough princess trope, it worked in Brave, but now its everywhere. I miss the days when princesses loved to be girly and wear dresses, being soft and kind, it was never a weakness. Im a tom boy myself but i love the original disney princess and the big poofy dresses.
    Being Soft and kind ISNT WEAK!! In fact in a world where so much shit happens and people are so rude and negative, being able to keep your positive and kind heart is incredibly strong, Cinderella for example, abused for years in her own home, never stopped being who she was.

      @@varuugBrave is so incomparable to this dreck. Merida is still feminine, she just feels stress from her mom - the central conflict in that film is between a mother and a daughter, not necessarily between modern and medieval ideals; their relationship is also the heart of the film. Merida wants freedom of choice, her mom just wants what's best for the kingdom, but she was prepared Merida for this moment to make it EASIER on her, not by filling her head with delusions that duty can be shirked. The queen comes to see things from Merida's perspective as the movie continues, and Merida comes to see how selfish she was acting. Ultimately a middle-fround is reached, but there is no declaration that all royal duties are now expunged, it just leaves the marriage plot ambiguous because the primary conflict was between Merida and her mother. It's a love story, just not a romantic love story; motherly love for her daughter.

      What always amazes me about TV shows like this is that you could easily assume these royal young adults have grown up their entire lives being told they would be (barring a sudden economic or wartime change that could necessitate a change in spousal option) marrying a specific person for the good of their realm, their kingdom, their people, their own honour and their family's honor. Arranged marriages were historically common and betrothal started early. There's literal YEARS to get used to this idea. It's mind boggling that every princess in these dramas is convinced she can throw the fate of literally her entire society out the window because she feels like she doesn't want to get married. Madame you were literally MADE to cement alliances and prevent societal collapse through marriage so royal houses wouldn't go to war with each other. I'm sorry, but that's how royal marriages WORK, and Disparu has a point in saying that if you truly wanted to marry for love, you'd be better off abdicating if you truly would be willing to give up privileged royal life for a choice in spouse. Duty comes before love in like 99.9% of cases of royal marriage, marrying for love is a very beautiful thing but it's a fairly MODERN concept for royalty (and in fact even for many regular citizens).

      The list of franchises that have ‘coincidentially’ been handed to 90s zoomers is staggering. And the lengths they go to make sure that millennials are snubbed just to cast zoomers.
      Even something like Uncharted, where the youngest millennials would have been the same age as Nathan Drake when it released? So, they DE-AGE the characters so they can cast ZOOMERS in the roles.
      And just look at the MCU. The original avengers were people in their 30s and 40s. Now, one by one they are all ‘COINCIDENTIALLY’ being replaced SPECIFICALLY by people born 1991-1998 (emphasis on 1992)

      Example: Luke starts out as naive farmer boy, fails at least once in the presence of one of THE wisest Jedi Masters to ever live (Yoda), abandons his training to ''save'' his friends, lashes out at his father in anger aboard Death Star II, and trusting fully in the Force by throwing aside his lightsaber. Thereby, redeemed Anakin was able to break the shackles of Vader and save his son and fulfill the prophecy of the Chosen One.

He did it to save hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians from horrible death. He knew he would be despised as an oathbreaker but he did it anyway. As far as im concerned, he did the right thing. Also, does a king of the Seven Kingdoms not swear an oath too? An oath to PROTECT THE REALM? I cant imagine anything more contrary to that than trying to burn your capital city with everyone still in it. In my opinion, the king broke his oath to protect his people _before_ Jamie killed him, therefore freeing Jamie of _his_ oath to protect the king. The moment the king decided that he would become a mass murderer for absolutely no reason, he became illegitimate. Jamie did some evil things but even he couldnt stand by and let the mad king do something _that_ horrible. He may have had a dirty conscience, but at least he had one. The king didnt.

    So… the princess watched Brave and stole that story for her own. And didn’t even think about how Merida grew from that experience and learned that her kingdom is more important than her own happiness. I mean, her parents learned that they wanted her to be happy and they gave her a chance to get to know the suitors and be happy. She still ignored that the characters were supposed to grow from that. And I don’t understand why a supportive brother is being framed as a bad thing. Jeez… all of these people are psycho.

    And I loathe how these self-righteous writers are incapable of even having a basic philosophical argument about their own worldviews between their characters. The problem in films and tv shows isn’t creating a strong character that’s female, it’s creating a strong female character. There’s a difference. Judge Judy once said in an interview “I never saw myself as a female lawyer or a female judge. I was just a lawyer who was female.” Characters (like people) should be built and based on their traits, not their identity. Being female, black, gay, trans, etc isn’t a trait.
