- Want to take your Fallout Shelter vault and dwellers to the next level of efficiency? Pets are the best item for end-game vault overseers to focus on, and in this episode of Vault Log I give my opinion on which pet I think is the best in the game.
If the Fallout Shelter community was more saturated, you'd literally be rolling in thousands of subs with millions of views a day.

Thanks so much! The Fallout Shelter videos are currently the most popular uploads on my channel. I'm planning on having my future uploads centered around a few more games, and hopefully I can generate more traffic once I start addressing popular titles like Overwatch and Paladins more.
I'd love to upload more, but my current situation is kind of uncertain. Once I get settled down I plan on spending all of my free time growing this channel and the associated website. I do have quite a few more Fallout Shelter videos planned though. :)
It's actually kind of funny that I always seem to be attracted to making videos on games that have smaller communities. For the past five years I've been running another channel that's focused on a relatively small MMO. I'll leave a link to that, just in case you want to check that out. :)

My initial layout was pretty bad. I gradually sold off the rooms from the top to the bottom, and I replaced them with the more organized layout in the video. There's still a few tweaks that I need to make, but the current layout is close to what I want to end up with.

These Vault Log series are so underrated.
Trench is the best pet for wasteland exploration, Calypso is the best pet for overseer quests and Pip is the best pet for objectives in your vault.

One thing I think you missed is that 'best pet' depends on what you're doing, as they're all highly specialized. For quest teams, I prefer the damage pets. But for wasteland exploration farming, I like the wasteland return speed and the +% wasteland junk pets. Reason being that if you're spamming out lvl 50 dwellers with full stimpacks and Radaways, and you're logging in to get some random encounters, you can probably get four or more days in the wasteland. Turnaround time is more important once you're farming legendary craft mats in the wasteland, since you'll have more people doing that than doing quests. The +% wasteland junk pets seem to net me a substantially higher number of legendary craft mats, so I'm marking that one up just for that.
So pet value largely depends on the role of the dweller. I find the damage resistance pets to be very good for your door guards, since they'll face the brunt of the deathclaws with only a two-occupant room.
But the overall best pet has to be the +3 SPECIAL breeder pets. Adding a free 21 SPECIAL points to all of your second-generation dwellers saves a ridiculous amount of time. If you're blessedly lucky enough to get it early, your vault will have an amazingly easy time as your first forty or so dwellers start at 31-33 SPECIAL instead of 10-12.
If you are a clean player pip and trench are the most efficient but if you dont like to wait less becuese of pets you can instead change time to 1 more day or several hours so you wont be waiting

Pip is my favorite. You get more lunchboxes and pet carriers by saving time completing objectives. I no longer have quests to complete. I get the daily quests and weekly quests, so I have no worries about waiting times.

One more advantage of a return speed pet is also the decrease of the Nuka Cola Quantum cost. Doing a series of quests in one row is much cheaper that way.
Yet, my favorite is the +x damage. In my primary vault (152 maxed out dwellers) I have a +6/+4 damage welcome committee. Combined with 6 dwellers in the next room which are equipped with three health / damage resistance pets and high end weapons not even Deathclaws stand a chance.
In my secondary vault I also have maxed out dwellers but I am missing pets. The Deathclaws get way further and cause more damage.

Nice, the "welcome committee" is a great strategy! I'd eventually like to have a +6 dmg pet in every room...that'll take a while though. :p
Instead of +6 damage pets,if you have i weapon that is poweful and equip the dweller with the pet that gives you 38% more damage you can have more than +6 damage.It s the legendary golden retriever i think
I'm re-rolling to have either of these three pet by opening the first three lunch boxes from quests:
#1 with pet objective
#2 return speed
#3 training (continuous)
No luck so far...

Depending on what you need. A vault with 200 residents doesn't have much use for those. 199 in this case.

I got really lucky with my first 2 pets the +4 damage parrot and the 50% parrot so a tank and a high damage roller.
There is no best pet i think since they span over multiple tasks

I did some tests on Trench and Bastet, the 2 legendary travel pets, and found something interesting.
The testers: 3 max lvl e17 dwellers on the 2nd of the Bug Hunt questline (the one where you can only use .32's at the beginning). all equiped with Heavy Merc gear, 1 Bastet or Trench (I used different vaults for each test, but similar Dwellers), and 2 +health pets. The Legendary Travel pet equipped dweller did more damage than the other in both instances, so it may seem like there is a hidden bonus, and who's to say it's only on those 2?

I got trench polly and merlin who are all legendarys in my first 6 carriers

I recently started a new vault, my first pet was +3 Child Specials. Couldn't of asked for something better.

Agreed, but I have yet to come across a situation where health is a major issue. I finish just about every quest with at least 15 stimpacks left, and other in-game battles don't seem to be too hard either. I can see health bonuses becoming more useful if increasingly difficult content is released in the future.
Pressing X ive got a quest with very high requirements which would award me 100000 caps a pet carrier and a lunchbox my first try was a failure but i almost finished it

There's no need to have more hp if your dwellers have endurance maxed and be a very high level
So what's better for questing: 100% Health boost (Maize Rai), +6 Damage (Calypso, etc), or damage resistance?

I don’t know if you’re active or if you’ll even see this but I actually have a question, how do you have so many pets? Lie did you buy the out carriers? Or did you earn them in game. If you did earn them in game was it via challenges or something else?

While I would agree with Objective completion and additional return speed pets are great, I would disagree with + damage pets. My questers last longer with +% health during questing since they have high HP on stock (lvl 50 with 17E). Damage Resistance works best for exploring.
I'd agree that damage resistance is handy, but to this day I haven't come across a situation where my HP has been a problem. I seem to finish the vast majority of the quests with at least 15-20 stimpacks left.
If one of my questers die during a quest, the quest retains its difficulty and I came to a point that I'm out of stimpaks. +% HP is would make the situation more manageable. It also works for explorers too if they encounter random quests.
What about child specials and crafting speed

I know you dont play this anymore im sure. But did you ever test out the +6 damage pet with a mirv? I understand how the damage works. But it doesnt exzctly explain how the damage is implied. Does it add +6 damage to the weapon. Or the damage enemys recivie. Basicly being the differnce of (3 enemies 1 mirv) of 6 damage vrs 18 damage. It just says +6 damage.
If your still responding, I need to know if I bring 2 ×4 return speed on a single quest does it stack up to ×8 return speed? I want to know cause i have 2 ×4 return speed pets

What does stranger chance do
It increases the chance of the stranger showing up in your vault. If you find and tap on him he'll reward you with a bit of caps.

If you have bigger vaults do you have a chance for getting better pets ? Because my pets are not that helpful so far.
I don't think vault size is tied to pet carrier or lunchbox item rolls. About how many pet carriers have you opened?

As you progress in the game you'll probably start to come across more pet carriers. I've gotten quite a few by completing objectives & quests.

What I don't get:
Pip & Trench both are meant to save time, but a lot of people say Pip is better even though Trench saves HOURS more time than Pip!
With this you dont have to use as much Nuka-Cola and you could skip crappy objectives!
I get horrible pets all I got so far was stranger chance crafting cost twin chance and child specisls I did get two i was happy about though rad healing and normal healing speed increased

The "child specials" pet can actually be pretty handy. Do you know what strength it is? Ex: +1, +2, +3. That pet could really boost the initial stats of your newborns, depending how powerful it is. :)
