I just finished watching your other video "How to get your sim card in China". You are by far the best Chinese guide I've found on youtube, very clear and helpful info, thank you Oli!
This is exactly the content I was looking for to ease the anxiety of a first trip to China. Thank you! Question about luggage: are there some dedicated spots inside the train where you can leave your luggage (like the big one that is hard to put above the seats)?
"Small airport"? This looks to me like a rather big, busy "airport".... maybe you haven't been to a small airport before, which can be very pleasant. Nice video.
Amazing video, my friend!!! I want to know if you recomend doing Hong Kong, Shangai and Beijing by train, is this better and cheaper than going by plane? Thank you!!!!
Well I would always go by train BJ-SH and SH/BJ-HK always by airplane. It's faster and more comfortable by train to bj from sh and faster from bj/sh to hk by airplanes
I’m stuck in Suqian and need to make my way to Shanghai airport with 2x 23kg and 1x7kg luggage. The anxiety is killing me 😢 I don’t know anything but this video helped. Thanks a million!
@@OlisBigPicturehai. I plan to take a soft /hard sleeper train from beijing to harbin with my hushband and my daughter. I read that child under 6 years old is free. Is it valid for soft/hard sleeper class? In the bunk of hard/soft sleeper is a mixed gender ? Thank you for ur information..
@@yunnys8417 I am a solo traveler, unfortunately I cannot give you reliable information about taking children with you on the journey. Safe trip for you and your family!
Hi, we bought tickets on Wechat app but my husband forgot to add his middle name, which appears on his passport. Do you think it could be a problem when scanning the passport ? We do Beijing/Shanghai Thank you very much for this video
After exiting the platform and going to exit gates, can you acces the station hall? Or do you need to scan something again? Its just hard for me to understand exiting the trains in China haha, also, is there separate entrances and exits to and from platforms? What if I would need to have a transfer?
It depends on the train station, usually when you exit you end up in the main train hall and from there then can enter other platforms but habe to scan again your passport/ticket to enter the new platform for your new train. Basically some at the airport for connecting flights.
There is a transfer channel, usually a barrier-free elevator, enter the platform ticket gate, take out your passport and show it to the staff, just like at 8:20 in the video, if you have a ticket, he will let you into the lobby
Well I am still working on it, currently using my Xiaomi 11 Ultra and a simple phone mount. As mic I use the syncoG2, it's really good price value. Once I can out external links under my videos (need 1000+ subs) I'll link it
Thank you for the video! So do you recommend getting the station about 1 hour before to get through passport check etc? or 30/45 mins enough. Thank you.
It depends on the day time (rush hour or not) and train station. Usually 45 min are more than enough to do passport check and luggage check. If lines are average passport check should take max 5-15 min and luggage check less than 5-10 min.
齐齐哈尔站 or Qiqihar Station is located at Qiqihar ethnically Manchurian autonomous county inside Heilongjiang 黑龙江 province. Qiqihar itself is a Manchurian name, not a Mongolian name and it's not situated inside of Inner Mongolia. Thank you.
Great insights thank you! I don't recall where I stated it's in Inner Mongolia 内蒙古. Was my first time there to visit some local friends, was super interesting to explore and learn about that region.
Heilongjiang has only one automous county, which is Dorbod Mongol Autonomous County and it's under jurisdiction of Daqing, not Qiqihar... Qiqihar has an ethnic minority district for the Daur people tho. And in fact the name Qiqihar comes from the Daur language meaning natural pasture/borderland. Has not much to do with the Manchurians...😳😳
I'm wondering how the delivery people enter to bring you food since they probably don't have a ticket :P Very well produced and insightful video. Looking forward to more of your content!
Haha I didn't see yet how they operate this. I guess they bring it to a central collection point where it is distributed to the trains when they stop by
Normally you can only order from those have restaurant in the railway station waiting room, to make sure of speed delivery to the platform. Although it’s not showed in this very informative video, the 2nd floor of the station waiting room will usually have a lot of restaurants, including chained fast foods, local specialities and convenience stores. So don’t worry if you’re running out of time to the railway station, you can always pick up something before boarding.
Fascinating! On the one hand the Chinese train network looks very good, in this sense they've massively overtaken Europe. On the other hand, with all the security and passport scanning, it's like they removed one of the big upsides to taking the train versus the plane. In Europe, I love how convenient it is to just hop on a train without any fuss and without having to wait at a gate with nothing to do.
Most of ppl don't use manual gate. So usually not long at all. Also quite some station allow scanning passport anyway. A few months ago during our trip, my friend kept scanning his passport and enter or exit before me. Lol
Thank you so much for explaining. Small details that I don't understand can cause a lot of stress and problems, but now I know what to do!
Thanks for sharing daily life tips for us laowais ;)

Chinese train is the best
Thank you. Excellent work and clearly English.
Thank you for your feedback! Hope you'll have fun in China
Great information about the train e-tickets. Last time (pre COVID) I went by high speed train in China there were still paper train tickets.
You still can pick up paper tickets after buying online, but no need anymore. However still possible to buy food old paper at the counters
可以有纸质发票但是在坐车时已经根本不需要了
11:00 Funny that the policeman is wearing a flashing light on his shoulder 😂
Haha that's pretty common, also police cars have their flashlights on 24/7 🤣

Question about luggage: are there some dedicated spots inside the train where you can leave your luggage (like the big one that is hard to put above the seats)?
Hey, yes at the ends of each wagon, where the doors are, you can find often luggage storage racks.
Gut gemacht Oli 👍
Super informative video. Please keep the videos coming!
Thank you! Will do!

very nice station. huge and clean too.
It sure is!
It was built in 1898 and rebuilt later. It seems they tried to keep some of the European influence.

I experience it weekly and must say it's one of the best in the world, if not the best
Maybe you haven't travelled by fast train in Spain, they also do security and ID check
How long did it take you to wait in the manual check-in line?

Thank you for the information 😊 how much luggage can you get in the train? Or there is no problem with that?
I've never encountered restrictions, therefore I guess..as much as you can carry haha
Could you (and how) to buy a train ticket on line, using a foreign passport?
Hello it's shown in the video when I am in the entrance hall, showing trip.com app
11:40 All these people obviously being recorded. I'm sure some of them don't want to be recorded.
