Useful video, it's really helpful to see the ticket machines, to be able to identify them when arriving after 48h with no sleep. I am guessing that's terminal one? Occasionally, my flight lands in a different terminal, and the crew don't mention it, and I kind of get lost in the airport. It can get complicated when you are not where you think you are. Thank you for making this guide. From my experience, I have always managed (until 2024) using cash in China, even in Shanghai. I must have been lucky, but all the supermarkets, corner shops, and restaurants I go to take cash. If you are a resident, then it's certainly necessary, but for a visitor, in my experience, you don't need to set up Alipay, etc to survive!
fantastic..im starting my tour in shanghai zhangiajie xian and beijing..from there i we go alone to get to shanghai .to get our airplane to dallas.. so we are planning on takking the meglav..do the meglav stop at the airport?
If you use a global roaming plan with your foreign phone that will probably work and will also bypass any blocking of websites and you won't need a VPN
I am coming to shanghai end of December over New Years Eve staying at The Eton Hotel Pudong, flight arrive 7pm what is the best way to travel from airport to hotel please, also any Recommendations where to go New Years Eve.
Done all this by myself but it was tricky and lot of fun ...u didn't mention that chienses don't speak English and it's very hard to communicate in English in china ..
As a foreigner from the USA, im just passing through Pudong airport going to my next destination. Do i need to scan my passport as I land ? Sorry it's my first time. Much appreciated if you respond back to me as soon as possible. Is Pudong airport easy to navigate because I have an hour and 35 minutes to my next destination.
You will go through Security and Transit and no you won't need to scan your passport. But 1.35 is VERY VERY tight, you may struggle if the airport is busy or if your next flight goes from another terminal. It tooks us an hour to get through security alone.
The only time you need to register with the police is if you're staying OUTSIDE of a hotel or AirBNB. Ie with friends or family. It's HIGHLY UNLIKELY you will EVER need to register with the police as a normal tourist.
great video easy and direct

Im so happy China now has a 10 day visa free thing going. Im definitely going

Well done..! So clear & concise. Thanks!
do we have to reserve the ticket in advance to ensure seat? will be going there during peak/school holiday season including chinese new year.

I use a Suica card in Japan. Use a Octopus card in Hong Kong. Is a similar card available for the Shanghai Metro? Using renminbi to purchase?
WeChat pay
Shanghai Pass
Alipay charges you 3% fee with a foreign bank card.
No it doesn't it didn't charge me a penny. Same with WeChat Pay
@@markylon It does charge you above 200RMB - you can ask to breakdown the amount in 200RMB chunks to avoid that.

Do I need connection to the internet to use Alipay to pay for stuff? I will be in Shanghai for 23 hours and I probably won’t have a SIM card
Great
Nice
What about google map sir? Can I use that? Or is there any map app in china?
No google in China
There is no Google map. If you use an iPhone, the Apple map should work as it cooperates with Gaode Map, one of the major map apps in China.
Even if you use Google maps with a VPN it is very inaccurate in China
What you do in china Sir
I think u cannot use this apps if you don't have bank account in China?
Yes you can!! Alipay and WeChat works with foreign cards
super helpful video, thank you so much!
