He puts on an a-hole face because deep down inside he does take things to heart like when a patient died of rabies and he used her organs to save other lives only to doom them or when JD was leaving sacred heart and he finally let his feelings for JD as a great doctor and an even greater friend.

He's a sad alcoholic who's overqualified for his job but he's also a caring human begin while being super tough on his interns. the reason he's that mean to them is because he wants them all to succeed in a very important field where someone's life is on the line. if you're soft on people who are trying to learn something as important as being a DR they're not going to succeed and be ready for the parts of the job that are scary and hard. But he's definitely still funny when he goes on his rants and makes fun of people regardless.

House plays extra dirty, tries to poke him with his cane, but Cox already slipped sleeping pills in the small amount of water that House rations himself so he doesn't have to hobble to the bathroom all the time, and House passes out. However! House also framed Cox for a TON of motor vehicle violations, so when the cops show up and see House KO'd, Cox gets arrested for a short while until things get sorted out. Cuddy makes House drop the charges on the threat of taking away his Vicodin supply again, and Jordan gets Cox to just leave it alone under threats of love. Winner: Neither and both, they're just that mutually petty.
