Uh, one way to make such smooth movements is with this option called the stabilizer. It slows down your movements and makes lines straighter. (SAI is just awesome like that, allowing an easier time for line art.) But I don't know what level you set it to, or if you set it to stablize at all. I'm still a beginner at computer drawing.. But keep up the good work :D
SO true! haha when i first got my tablet i always tried rotating it and got frustrated (guess I was just too clueless to try rotating the canvas haha) but it can be discouraging using a tablet for the first time. Its a new medium that takes getting used to, but if you're patient, it can help you improve your art skills soooo much
@Nicole1725 it's kinda working, guess I have get used to being more gentle with strokes.... Thanks anyway for taking the time to reply to all my comments! ^.^
One of the more important things to note here, since I haven't seen it said (granted, I haven't looked; I'm lazy) is that the tablet isn't going to make you a better artist, regardless of how much you may or may not spend on it. So regardless of your choices just make sure you're continuing to practice - especially WITH the tablet, because it can take some getting used to. Also if you turn your paper, rotate the canvas - not the tablet.
@Aero53003 You're referring to the opacity. The pen tool's pressure sensitivity changes the thickness of the lines, not it's opacity. For a tool that has pressure sensitivity opacity, use the brush tool. That will give you the sketching feeling. The pen tool is for lineart. Try these settings on your brush tool and tell me how it works: edge shape - rounded square don't use a brush texture (set it to [None]) min size - 10% color blending - 35% opacity mix & persistence - 0% check 'keep opacity'
Thanks and that's what it looked like, was just curious on someone else's starting size, I seem to do about the same thing for sketches then re-size it to be around 1500 to 2000 for higher resolution.
@rhylast @Nicole1725 Thanks for your help! Turns out the model I have was from almost ten years ago... And isn't PROGRAMMED to be pressure sensitive... Thanks anyway!
@alucardmurderer I use GIMP a lot and I can say once you get used to it, it's very good. But I would recommend Sai (for a "digital" style) and ArtRage (for a more traditional style) much more highly to you than GIMP if you want to *exclusively use it for drawing and painting* and are willing to pay a little -- GIMP feels made more for science than art, whereas Sai and AR were designed for drawing.
I can second for that person. I work with the bamboo splash at school, and my monoprice at home, and they work exactly the same in photoshop. As long as you take care of your stuff it wont break. Just because it cost ore dosent mean that it's better quality. Don't go drinking Wacom's kool-aid. The only exception are the intous since they are one of the best tablets you can get. Also sexy sketch :D
@Nicole1725 You may find it better for sketching, but was never the problem here. What he asked was how to draw with that sketchy effect, which is only possible with a tool that has pressure sensitive opacity capabilities, like the brush or the airbrush tools. The pen tool simply doesn't work like that.
@Nicole1725 There is a fairly good tablet called the Bamboo Pen (not Pen and Touch, although that is relatively cheap as well), and it is only $69. Compared to other tablets, it's REALLY cheap (professional grade Wacoms can get up to $700 and generally start at $250 or something like that).
i found a way to download parallels *or what it's name was* and now i'm just waiting for the windows to download. thank you so much! you have been a great help! ^w^
@ProMulato Click "File" ---> "Save As" -------> File Format, make it to a .psd file or a Photoshop File. When you open it in sai again, all the layers will be there. Photoshop is universal in a way so it will keep the layers n stuff :3 hope this helps
@Nicole1725 Someone asked if this was a character from a game or an anime, i was simply pointing it out it doesn't have to be because you draw in an anime style =). I love the video. I am learning Paint Tool Sai and I came across your video. I guess using a tablet is the way to go eh? I am really strong with Illustrator.
I would start off with a Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen&Touch if I were you. It's very easy and comfortable and the other ones are kind of useless until you're used to using a tablet.
@Nicole1725 ok i read a comment and you said you use a wacom intuos 3 which the smallest one.does it have to be a wacom? like i found a genius easypen i405 graphic tablet when i looked like paint tool sai on amazon (yes i buy from them) and for the sketch pad it came up that beside the paint tool sai.but weird thing is maybe thats what its actually called idk but when i typed it in it came up for it "manga studio ex 4" which idk if its the same thing. if not can you tell me where i can buy it?
@sana123z Or you could look for the Cintiqs, which display your screen on the tablet itself. Those are in the $1000+ price range, though. Mine is a Wacom Intuos 4--$350. Not too bad a price and an awesome result. But the cheaper ones do the same thing, and are probably the best choice for their price. My idea was that I'd probably regret it if I got one too small. Sorry about the long message.
@Nicole1725 I have my Pen set to that as well, but I can't seem to get that light stroke like you do even if I don't push down hard (and sometimes it doesn't draw). What's your Pen Pressure set to? Because of my Tablet Update I lost those settings for some reason for my Wacom Bamboo Tablet.
@merylove1994 well, depends on the kinda pics u want. i drew with he lining tool before i got a tablet, and well, it gives decent results, but if you wanna draw like this for example, you'll need a drawing tablet. it sux, i kno, but theres a swedish company called Teknik Magasinet that sells em for 70€ (well, around 70€ not sure about the exact price). got one and it works perfectly :P hope it helps. Peace.
@Nicole1725 - What resolution do you do your line art at? Is there a certain opacity you set your lines or layers to? I hope those questions are a little more clear =).
I was curious about this software, so I decided to download the Paint tool Sai Ver.1. My question is that is it different when you draw with the purchased software? Because I draw with the trail version and the lines are not smooth at all, plus it's really sucky. :P
@Nicole1725 ok i have the free paint tool sai since i downloaded it so i get the trial version.if i wanted to actually buy the software its self how much would it be? ive heard from around 30-$60 range. which is fine. im more concerned about the sketch pad cost since i want to be able to sketch on here.if i bought one like yours how much would it cost and what website could i go to to buy it? is there a cheap sketch pad that would work fine for it? ive looked everywhere and idk what to buy
Beginner: Wacom bamboo Intermediate: Intuos Professional: Cintiq It really depends on your comfort level, I'd start with a Wacom. It's also MUCH more inexpensive.
Sooo not true. This looked so pro,I thought you were tracing when i looked at the pic. You have pure talent!! o:< And I'll send you a PM about this. :B
it was supposed to be a joke, but yeah there is. its called a drawing tablet. its like a digital version of drawing with pencil and paper. look up "wacom.com" and they have several versions available which run from about 60$ to $200 but theres not much of a difference.
gosh i wish i could do this but i can not use a mouse and do it. its just to hard for me with a mouse cause i cant get it to do exactly like i want it to and i dont have a tablet yet soo :/ but this looks great :)
@merylove1994 Well, one option is to draw on paper with a regular pencil. That way you can practise with hand drawing instead of using line tools etc. Also, i got one for X-mas, so thats one possibility to get one. or birthday, works too. I know its a bitch when you want one reaaaaaly bad, but you just cant afford it :/ oh well. Peace.
Mm,I've done that a few times, bit it still comes out somewhat odd. Do you have a regular sized canvas, make it much bigger, draw over what you need, then shrink it back to normal? *Long comment is long.*
Nice sketching!! :D Where can I get Paint Tool Sai from? I've checked the official website, but it only gives an option to purchase it online after downloading it, and I'd like to hold it in my hands. That just makes me calm, if you know what i mean. :)
@dinobublz not hard its really like moving a pencil but with your palmall my digital arts done by mouse want my tablet so i have pressure sensitivity thoe :C
@artz132 What program are you using? If it's Sai turn up the stabilizer and you should get smoother lines, if it's photoshop learn how to use the pen tool or just draw more carefully.
I have a question: Whenever I use the drawing tools such as "pen", the lines don't come out straight. They're all wavy and zig-zaggy, and they WEREN'T that way yesterday... **I'm using a drawing tablet
hi ive just recently been bought a digital media tablet and i want to get started on using it but im lacking program that is good to use. could you pm me a link with info about the program u use in this video? with stuff like if it costs or whatever. thank you so much. and happy new year, i hope you had a great christmas
woah, in the beginnign when you made the head, i was like "woah, thats a quickie :o" i personally spend like ages making the shape of the head... yea, im a perfectionist ._. gotta or perfect, or no good at all >-< worst part is, after a while ive messed around with the head so much that i have to start over :l nice vid anywayz
Unfortunately no, that's not a not an art tablet. They are devices made for completely different things. While you could probably download sketchbook or some app like that. You still won't have good pressure sensitivity or anything.
This might soound stupid, but do you need a tablet in order to use Paint Tool Sai?? I'm sorta new to all these programs, 'cause the only painting program I have is Windows Paint. -_-'
@Nicole1725 again sorry.. can you use a tablet on the trial version or w/e? i know im asking for alot but ive looked everywhere and i am getting no answers. sorry for all teh questions. i might seem stupid but im sure others are wanting to konw some of the same information
@CallmeYami its not really your hand, its your mouse you need a decent mouse pad and a mouse with high DPI. (something over 1,000, 2,000-5000 is good) also a 1080p monitor (preferred)
Her eyes .. she's soo beautiful *__* great job.
I'm so jealous of you right now-.- I love your work! It's so amazing!:)
This is so good. Omg I'm really jealous of your skills
i love her she is soo cute!!!!♥♥♥

her eyes r so elegant and beutiful. i love it so much. it is just so beutiful.
this was absolutely fantastic!! well done!! =) i hope i can perfect my skill as well
Thanks and that's what it looked like, was just curious on someone else's starting size, I seem to do about the same thing for sketches then re-size it to be around 1500 to 2000 for higher resolution.

I agree, out of all the tablets I have tried Wacom is my favorite. I am currently using the Wacom Pen and Touch craft tablet.
Can't wait for it! I'm finally getting a tablet soon so it would help alot! :D
i found a way to download parallels *or what it's name was*
and now i'm just waiting for the windows to download.
thank you so much!
you have been a great help! ^w^

@Nicole1725 Thank you, and you're a wonderful artist btw :)
@TwiWitchMuse If you like drawing anime, Manga Studio EX 4 is built for that making manga, and pretty good for normal drawing too. :)
@Nicole1725
Someone asked if this was a character from a game or an anime, i was simply pointing it out it doesn't have to be because you draw in an anime style =). I love the video. I am learning Paint Tool Sai and I came across your video. I guess using a tablet is the way to go eh? I am really strong with Illustrator.
@Nicole1725 Yes I use Intuos4, it's not so much size but more of how solid and un-skecthy it is
Thank you. I really admire your art.
it was really good :) awsome job!
this is the only paint video iv seen that doesn't have obnoxious dubstep playing in the background.
your drawing is really really good
I would start off with a Wacom Bamboo Fun Pen&Touch if I were you. It's very easy and comfortable and the other ones are kind of useless until you're used to using a tablet.
THATS AWSOME!!!! if only i had a tablet.....*daydreams*
@dinobublz she used a Wacom Intous drawing tablet, like the best drawing tablet you can find :P
thats really gd :) love it can i aske u a question. do u know at 5.20 in ur video how did u delete the guidelines.

@Nicole1725 I updated the driver and it works again! Thank you so much :D
which is better? photoshop or paintool sai (for stuff like drawing anime) :) thanks , i love your sketch! :)
Hi, this is amazing :D U should finish it :)
Just a quick question, when you draw your lines, how do u make it pointy at the beginning AND at the end?
I was curious about this software, so I decided to download the Paint tool Sai Ver.1. My
question is that is it different when you draw with the purchased software? Because I draw with the trail version and the lines are not smooth at all, plus it's really sucky. :P
it's new and the driver is the newest version.
there's no option tag
and no, paint tool sai works perfectly for mac.
@Nicole1725 what brand of tablet are you using?
cause it has a pan pressure function
I really like it ^_^
@Nicole1725 A main character ((an elf)) from the book Artemis Fowl.
Such a lurvvvley picture! I wondered, are u on a tablet? If so what brand? Im thinking of getting one an am trying to c which brand i should get
@Nicole1725
Yeah, I wish that there was an anime art academy. That would be my place for sure haha.
@nicole1725 my hard part is getting straight lines without curves at end, since my writing and drawing pattern is unique :/
Mr. and Mrs. Dursley lived an absolutely normal life, then everything changed when the fire nation attacked.
Amazing job, very great picture. I don't think the head is too big lol, you should see me fail at proportions..
What size is your canvas (in pixels)? I am never sure what resolution is best for these sort of drawings, oh BTW amazing drawing skills!
@Nicole1725 Yeah, that would be great as well. Well I suppose we'll see where life takes us and if an art academy is in the road, good for us. =b
You make it look so easy ; o
@Nicole1725
thanks!
LOL, my min size was set to 50%
XP
Beginner: Wacom bamboo
Intermediate: Intuos
Professional: Cintiq
It really depends on your comfort level, I'd start with a Wacom. It's also MUCH more inexpensive.
@kokobedima
they're using Paint Tool SAI. (:
@dinobublz its not with a mouse. Theres a new technology called Drawing Tablets. I suggest you get a Bamboo fun Tablet. they are easy to learn and fun
Sooo not true. This looked so pro,I thought you were tracing when i looked at the pic. You have pure talent!! o:<
And I'll send you a PM about this. :B
You know you don't have to do it so fast :P You can use Windows Movie Maker to speed it up. Still, I love your sketches
it was supposed to be a joke, but yeah there is. its called a drawing tablet. its like a digital version of drawing with pencil and paper. look up "wacom.com" and they have several versions available which run from about 60$ to $200 but theres not much of a difference.
and also, how do you make the ends fade out, like yours??
I'm trying to self-teach myself...
gosh i wish i could do this but i can not use a mouse and do it. its just to hard for me with a mouse cause i cant get it to do exactly like i want it to and i dont have a tablet yet soo :/ but this looks great :)
Your style is amazing. Have you considered going pro?? o:
oh. and question. my tablet pressure isn't working in paint tool sai. any suggestions?
@merylove1994 Well, one option is to draw on paper with a regular pencil. That way you can practise with hand drawing instead of using line tools etc. Also, i got one for X-mas, so thats one possibility to get one. or birthday, works too. I know its a bitch when you want one reaaaaaly bad, but you just cant afford it :/ oh well. Peace.
Gosh, how do you re-draw your lines so smoothly?
I always have to use the pen-tool.
-Sadface.-
It's very pretty,though.
@Nicole1725 Well, I didnt exactly claim it but yeah i do,and how do you sketch?
Do you use a tablet? If not, I BOW DOWN TO YOUR AWESOME WAYS OR ARTISTRY!
oops yeah i meant pressure. ok ty so much!!
Mm,I've done that a few times, bit it still comes out somewhat odd.
Do you have a regular sized canvas, make it much bigger, draw over what you need, then shrink it back to normal?
*Long comment is long.*

ammm one thing.. i'm a begginer it is mean that i shuould use Wacom? or i can use Cintiq . i want the easy one and comfortable to use.
@dinobublz not hard its really like moving a pencil but with your palmall my digital arts done by mouse want my tablet so i have pressure sensitivity thoe :C
@dinobublz I think that she used a tablet xD not a mouse :) but still is amazing!
ah thanks... I never noticed the opacity slider before. Sorry for the noobish question
Aah.
I see.
I might have to do that.
Mine always come out so squiggly. :c
Maybe it's because I don't have a steady hand. Lol.
@artz132 What program are you using? If it's Sai turn up the stabilizer and you should get smoother lines, if it's photoshop learn how to use the pen tool or just draw more carefully.
Ive been wanting to make a drawing video,
been drawing anime since i was 6
I have a question:
Whenever I use the drawing tools such as "pen", the lines don't come out straight.

@Nicole1725
thank you sooooo much
Do you have to buy a separate tool for this or can you just buy another software where you can use a mouse?
@89990000 Yes, i want a tablet but it's too expensive! i always use mouse to make a drawing,and i think it's beautiful!!!!
How get you get those light strokes with the Pen? I can't seem to get it with SAI and my Tablet.
This might soound stupid, but do you need a tablet in order to use Paint Tool Sai?? I'm sorta new to all these programs, 'cause the only painting program I have is Windows Paint. -_-'
@Nicole1725 again sorry.. can you use a tablet on the trial version or w/e? i know im asking for alot but ive looked everywhere and i am getting no answers. sorry for all teh questions. i might seem stupid but im sure others are wanting to konw some of the same information
this is awesome!
how do you get such smooth lines?
ok tnx .. i thought of buying 1 :)... im only good at papers so im trying this kind of stuff :)
HOW DO YOU MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE SKETCHES WERE FADING? THE LINES I MEAN..
@CallmeYami its not really your hand, its your mouse
you need a decent mouse pad and a mouse with high DPI. (something over 1,000, 2,000-5000 is good)
also a 1080p monitor (preferred)
how do you get the lines so light and soft, with me there always so solid and thick even with low size
Which tool do you use..how to set that color so that you can develop sketches... ? will you help me
hello Nicole1725 well i have a question to ask
how did you make your sketch look less visibility
i was wondering how do you get the lines so smooth? I mean yeah i have a tablet and it did have smooth lines but now its all flat D:
How do I mess around with the pen pressure on my tablet? When I draw, I can't get my tool to look like actual pencil lines like this. :(
