Such a catch 22, standing more than 5 minutes gets to be excruciating, sitting relieves the pain, but is causing the damage

@@barefootjakejake7765 I feel ya, brother. I've been in the same dark space for the past few months. Keep moving, and it will get better. I was basically bed-ridden for a few weeks. Finally, the right combination of meds and therapy got me semi-mobile again... And the pain is slowly receding.
Your best days are still ahead of you. Keep the faith. One day, when we're pain free, we'll look back and appreciate the mobility we have.

I first iced my back then took a hot shower and arched my back forward with water as hot as I could stand it for 5 minutes and this worked great to loosen up the muscles and relieve the pressure on the sciatica nerve. I had immediate permanent relief. Probably won't work this well for everybody but did for me.

I am a truck driver and literally have no choice but to sit for TEN hours every day, and with added bumps and vibrations from the poor quality roads in this country. After years of this lifestlye, I have developed severe sciatica pain issues, chiropractic care fixed it temporarily, but I cant just make chiropractor visits a permanent part of my life. I drive with a heating pad on my lower back, thats the only thing that relieves the pain enough for me to work. My left leg does get numb, so I just rest that foot on a small box. My sciatica pain has been going on almost a year now. It definitely dampens everyday life😔 These videos have helped a lot though, and I thank you for that.

Sitting with 'correct' posture for lengthy periods is obviously beneficial to the spine, but make sure to stretch out in the reverse position, or, like me, you might find your mobility becomes, over time, quite limited. And to sit like this, you'll need your keyboard right up close towards you so that you're not tempted to slump towards it, which could create curvature of the upper thoracic spine - let's face it, we're not designed to sit at a desk for 8hrs a day! I reckon our forefathers suffered less than we do, by doing intensive manual work.

    • @WokOverEasy
      @WokOverEasy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

They also call intensive work back breaking and our ancestors didn’t live as long so they probably didn’t have to experience the back giving way as much. Too much of anything is bad. I can’t imagine my back after bending over for hours washing clothes by hand or picking rice LOl

When I was young I remember thinking that I should become athletic because athletes were in great shape and never in pain. Of course I found out htat athletes are ALWAYS in pain, and part of hte process is dealing with pain.
As far as sitting goes, there are good youtubes on squatting. Ever go to a third world country? They 'sit' like that all day. Quads of iron. I know some dentists without borders, they went tot he mountains of afghanistan and did dental work with NO anaesthetic and said those guys never blinked. Yeah, our overweight and under muscled population is just geared for survival!
The healthiest people are those with CONTROL of how they work. Sitting at a desk all day, definitely is going to hurt you. Of course some workers in the past had it much worse than others.

You guys have been amazingly helpful. I developed Sciatica about 2 weeks ago, after the first few days I started watching your videos. I wasn't able to stand remotely straight at all, like I was hunched over entirely, I worked on my posture per your guys advice and after a day I was able to stand up straight. The next day I was back to walking straight up. It's gotten so much better, I still feel pains in my leg, but I'm just trying to make a point of it to make sure I got good posture (I bought a few tools, like a lumbar roll for my car, one for my seat at work, and a posture supporter over my shirt that I wear around the house). I started mixing in stretches and I'm back to my normal life, minus I have to sit down after about 3 minutes of walking, but still, it's light years beyond being bed ridden like I was for the first 5 days.
The feeling of pain isn't really in my lower back, it's mostly in my leg... the calf, hamstring, and foot. Any additional advice you can give?

I have sciatic symptoms left side for 3+ months, from a L4-L5 herniation and treatments for previous bouts of sciatica no longer are effective, surgery will probably be my next option.
As to my question......, for me, relief from the pain comes from sitting down, (I believe this is a flexion example in my case?) so what should I do given that sitting down is my place of relief? Many thanks in advance, Andrew

Hi. I went to a spine and bone doctors yesterday for my knee. He said he saw a slight tear of my meniscus, and it could be bigger but the MRI doesn't show it all. He suggests surgery? But if it's something he doesn't even know is serious should I go through with it? My leg has locked up 3 times due to it though so I know I have a meniscus tear just not if surgery is needed? Ok asking because I dance and was wondering if it's worth taking off dance for this surgery. Thanks!

Hey guys. Thanks for everything u do. Been having problems sitting for almost a year now. It gets uncomfortable/painful after 15 mins or so. I can tolerate the pain but if I sit at a restaurant one day, the next few days are rough and sometimes cause a bad flare up and throw out my back completely. Been working w a McKenzie therapist for many years to deal with my back issues. The therapy has always helped but it only seems to help so much this past year. Can't seem to return to my "normal" life. I basically avoid sitting at all costs now. Even for meals I'll stand. Any ideas or suggestions?? Been told my next attempt at relief should be a spinal injection but to be honest I'm concerned of the risk/reward ratio in trying those. Thanks again. Go Packers!! Sorry Bob 😃

I'd like to know if you find any relief. I'm having trouble sitting, too. Still not sure if I have sciatica.

Quick update for anyone wondering: Been trying stem cell & PRP injections which have helped but only for a few months at a time from what I can tell. About a year ago I tried a radio frequency ablation on my lower back. The basic explanation of that is they burn some nerves so you won't actually feel the pain. The nerves do grow back at some point between 6-18 months. At least that's what I remember the doctor telling me. Last September I had the RFA done and had some relief but I wasn't satisfied. So a few months later in January I started a round of stem cell injections. After that is when I felt the most relief. I was able to sit for much longer than I remember. I still wasn't 100% but I don't think I'll ever be after suffering for so long. I was doing really well compared to before. Then in May I had a really bad episode that had me stuck in bed for a few days. I could tell a few weeks before that I was gradually starting to feel worse again. Spoke to my doctor and he suspected my nerves were growing back already. Started the whole process with my insurance again and just had another RFA procedure done 2-3 weeks ago. It can take about a month for the nerves to fiully die off but I am already starting to feel a difference. I'll slowly start sitting more again in the next few weeks to see where I'm at. My plan is to see how much the RFA alone can help before I consider more stem cell injections. The RFA is covered by my insurance but the stem cells are not. It's frustrating but maybe one day they'll come around. Hope everyone out there finds some relief one way or another. I continue to go to a McKenzie therapist but it's more for "maintenance" at this point. Ultrasound treatment and massages. If anyone has any follow up questions I'll be glad to reply as soon as I see them. This is always going to be a work in progress but I'm hoping this treatment can help me avoid any kind of surgery for a long time. Hang in there and take care.

This is glorious, been searching for "sciatica hanging stretch" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Venayden Wanillian Method - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.

Sirs, I'm 18 and I have 2 herniated discs in L4 - L5 and L5 - S1 from deadlifting wrong, I've been following your videos and they've been helpful. I've found the McKenzie method helps me greatly, but only to a certain point, my doctor advise hanging myself on a pull-up bar, but when I do that there's a sharp pain sent from my right hip (the side that hurts) down to my toes, with the tingling sensation. I would be grateful for some advise, thanks.
Edit: I've been doing some research about hanging on pull-up bars, and most articles say that they are helpful, but in my case, they are not, so I'm really confused.
