For non-Iranian people who don’t know much about Iranian population demographics and society, I should say that we have Black Iranians for thousands of years, especially in the south, fully part of the society and not a separated or isolated group… Also, the queer society has been generally accepted by the majority of the society for more than the age of this lovely young individual, especially in big cities… yet I admit that in smaller towns and villages or pro-regime neighbourhoods , they still have massive challenges and are not being accepted, but that is generally due to the Islamic regime’s systematic discriminatory propaganda and policies

If you go to Naghsh-e-Jahan near Persepolis, you’ll see Darius the Great referring to himself, the country, and Iranian people as such, Iranians. And yes, we’ve got black peoples, especially in the south, some native and some migrated there over the span of many centuries or millennia and thus fully Iranian.

There are a lot of people in every society that simply do not want to understand queer people, but on the other hand, there are also many people that want to understand queer people, so a good idea seems to be ,spend more time with people whom like to understand you and less time with others, There is no reason to try to have some sort of hope to make a global change towards queer people, as these things take a lot of time and are not achievable in a one lifetime span, Live your life at the fullest ,good luck
To say it isn't achievable in one life time is pretty much not true. There has been plenty of countries who achieved it in one life time. Even the largest country being America achieved it in an activist life time. Of course there would need to be a societal structure for that. Which that takes long but besides taht it cam be done

I find it interesting and important to point out that in ancient Persia (more pagan - Zoroastrian; more in tune in living with nature and people being part of the natural ecosystem), the diversity of folks was celebrated and the norm (race - vast across the many regions; gender - ie. Ancient Persian poets were all for the majority Queer and celebrated, etc.), but it wasn’t until colonialism and imperialism by the White western countries and patriarchal Muslim and Christianity religion dominated countries that Iranian culture became more bigoted towards these communities and marginalized them.
No even under islam many persianised and Persian poets were still queer.. like rumi and his alleged male lover they wrote poems about each other openly

Nobody can boast treating blacks with equally and respectfully. Most of us are where we are, in diaspora, because for whatever reason, we were trafficked. Unfortunately, it's more a product of the colonial age we live in than the people who themselves are suffering under it too. Edited to add: The "antiblackness" she suffered is a nearly universal experience for us. It just is what it is. Edited one more time to add: The "antiblackness" in Iran sounds pale in comparison to what I've suffered myself in the US. I doubt anybody would contest this with a straight face.
It’s not a competition - discrimination is discrimination. The context and landscape matters but the video shows how even half way across the world, LGBTQ and black peoples are discriminated against. Also some people think they don’t exist in Middle East but they do
Freedom is essential. The problem is where and when you feel the desire to break loose and those who may want to help you when you want to breakloose and who you want to see you breaking loose when you are ready. In the case of the Black Iranian lady, it's hard to connect the dots for her considering many African Nations with Muslim majority like Somalia, North Sudan, Mali, Niger, Mauritania, Egypt, Chad (to mention but a few) and others as well have countries like Iran, Iraq, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and others with diplomatic presence in them. Don't they preach love and respect for all their citizens in their mosques? It's disturbing. We all breathe the same air, drink the same water, eat the same food and in the end go less than 2 meters beaneath. Causing citizens unnecessary pain. Very disturbing.
I’m a queer Jew born and raised in Iran and while I also experienced some of these because of the government, I can’t help but notice that this British propaganda wants to frame Iranian society as the cause when in reality is it’s just the government that’s being supported by UK to this day. The British want to lecture us about racism now too LOL They want to put the blame on our society and culture to discourage the world from the prospects of a free Iran after Islamic Republic because based on this British agenda, we are not worthy of freedom as “we’re so backward”
That must been really hard living in Iran as a Jewish person... @@hamegibaham-m1s Ofcourse we do, but just like any other society. If anything Iran was way ahead of her game before the revolution comparing to many countries in our region and the world. That’s both on queer issues and Jewish emancipation. But ofcourse we are struggling in the past 4 decades because of the kind of regime that BBC actively propagated for. And now in such momentous days, the same media tries to target Iranian society. They could’ve made the same documentary just talking about Iran in general, but notice they are specifically attacking Iranian Society. We were born yesterday if we had forgotten the kind of British propaganda that has tried to antagonise our culture against ourselves to keep us behind. I’m not denying the stories (after all I’m gay and from a marginalized minority) all I’m saying is the frame that is built in this documentary by BBC is targeting Iranian Society and wants to portray to the western audience that women life freedom doesn’t mean Iranians are actually progressive enough to deserve a better future and that their culture is so backwards that would prevent them from a better future. If every German had to wait for racism to end in German society and every American had to wait for civil rights to start in every American family on a cultural level, actual political change would’ve never taken place. I truly believe the UK wants us to waste our time on cultural sectarianism and controversies instead of truly targeting the root of the problem which is the Islamic Republic who has been perpetuated by UK and other European and American liberal allies.

I think political change has to happen but culture HAS to change at same time and to keep up with it too. thats point of woman life freedom, its for EVERYONE in iran.
@@hamegibaham-m1s Nobody’s blaming the people featured in the documentary for anything letting alone for the Islamic revolution 😂 like i said they could’ve made the same documentary with the same exact people in it but with less emphasis on “Iranian society”. The usage of that word as opposed to just saying “Iran” is no accident. All I’m pointing out is simply the BBC agenda, that’s all. This media was single-handedly in charge of the revolutionary propaganda of 79 not according to me but according to Khomeyni himself. And ofcourse they have the power to sabotage our current movement by the same virtue. I mean look at how they minimised an abolitionist movement that came so close to toppling Islamic Republic and it’s gender apartheid in 2022 to a social movement thats stuck in this dichotomy of either soft reform on looser hejab or these idealistic goals that must turn Iran to the most “woke” society ever. Well we know that’s a recipe to keeping IR in power. Putting us between the choice of practical soft reform and this queer utopia that has to be more progressive that even the west (basically an impossibility). Well ofcourse we’re far from being a gay utopia so we’ll end up with the kinda reform the British want us to do for them so they can live in peace with Islamic Republic. What they did to our anti-IR movement of Woman Life Freedom is completely consistent with the kinda agenda pushed by this documentary as well; emboldening the idea that “Iranians need Socio-Cultural change as opposed to first and formost freeing themselves from IR’s institutional oppression”. They want the average westerners to look at us as these problematic racist and backward people all because 99% of us never met a black person in Iran. These are just differing nuances in each society that here is being portrayed as “Iranian racism” to the western audience, whose view on Iran will predict western foreign policy about Iran and the prospective abolishment of Islamic Republic.

People from the lgbt group are found everywhere. Even in places that dont accept their lifestyle. Even in Africa where it isnt acceptable, they are there. I say this because, its not an American ideology as you said. The ACTUAL Western ideology on this topic is the trans agenda in particular. It has scared many nations because it has descended to madness if im to be honest. The fear comes from living in a society where you are forced to play into something that isnt real, for the sake of someone who simply needs help. Alternatively, if you look at Asia, theres a big acceptance for the trans agenda because they dont force others into the whole pronoun thing, and ladyboys for example havent deluded to actually believing they are real women. Many jeep thier man parts in tact and vice versa. But in the West, im sorry it has becime insanity. Many queers are also against the trans agenda. What it has done to American children, terrifies the world. Its that simple. But most places (except islamic nations) dont have an issue with gay/bi people, its a fear of their nations turning into what America has become. We want our spaces, and sports separate for men and women etc... we want these decisions to transition/hormones to be done for people over the age of 18, who have a sound mind to make such a major decision. But the west insists on doing it to children who dont even know that santa is fake. And they actually lie to these people that you can become something you're not. Thats where the issue lies. Hence the major refusal for that in particular. But even in Africa, simply being gay, lesbian or bi isnt a big deal. Its the trans agenda in particular which we dont want to see here.

"Propaganda", @@olklk? Abuses by the Iranian dictatorship have been widely reported. Since when telling about facts is "propaganda"?
On the other hand, the situation in the UK has nothing to do with the one in Iran. How can you dare to compare?
_The UK is a democratic country. There, discrimination because of ethnicity and gender identity is prosecuted by law.
_Iran is a country ruled by a totalitarian regime. There, it's exactly the opposite: discrimination because of gender, religion, ideology, ethnicity... is implemented by the regime. And the opposition to those rules is severely repressed and punished.
Of course, no place in the world is totally free of discrimination, but... is the situation in the UK comparable to the one in Iran? Of course not, it isn't at all.
Iran is the leader and embodies the vision of Islam.
Thank you for shedding light on such an important issues. Hopefully this will inspire much-needed conversations about equality, justice, and acceptance in our society. We have a long way to go, even after the regime change in Iran.
Oh it changed? I am unaware
@@annahollander111 No, they're saying there's a lot of change needing to be made in the country even after the dictatorship collapses. The political side isn't the only problem.
Great video 🔥
Honestly, this report seems to try hard to generalise the experience and perception of 2 individuals to a whole society and shift the blame from government-imposed discriminations solely to the people and society… nice journalism, BBCW!! Not at all in line with the Islamic Regime’s talking points and justifications…!! I’m wondering if Javad Zarif wrote, directed, and produced this report…!!
For non-Iranian people who don’t know much about Iranian population demographics and society, I should say that we have Black Iranians for thousands of years, especially in the south, fully part of the society and not a separated or isolated group…
Also, the queer society has been generally accepted by the majority of the society for more than the age of this lovely young individual, especially in big cities… yet I admit that in smaller towns and villages or pro-regime neighbourhoods , they still have massive challenges and are not being accepted, but that is generally due to the Islamic regime’s systematic discriminatory propaganda and policies
I didn't know Iran (Persia its antiquarian name) has been so diverse!
And blacks having been in the southern regions for thousands of years??😳
@@joelgoldsmith4747 Persia was an exonym, while Iran and its variants, Iranshahr, Eranshar, Aryashahr, Aryana, have been the endonyms since the Avestan Era, which spanned millennia before the Achaemenid Empire (the first Persian Empire). In Iran, Persia has been a name for a province, principality, and satrapy in northern parts of the Persian Gulf. This is the area where Cyrus the Great is coming from, thus the exonym Persia.

The BBC sure found the right time to put this out...
There are a lot of people in every society that simply do not want to understand queer people, but on the other hand, there are also many people that want to understand queer people, so a good idea seems to be ,spend more time with people whom like to understand you and less time with others,
There is no reason to try to have some sort of hope to make a global change towards queer people, as these things take a lot of time and are not achievable in a one lifetime span,
Live your life at the fullest ,good luck
To say it isn't achievable in one life time is pretty much not true. There has been plenty of countries who achieved it in one life time. Even the largest country being America achieved it in an activist life time. Of course there would need to be a societal structure for that. Which that takes long but besides taht it cam be done
Interesting. Do the same with Saudi Arabia now.

Are there any Persians protesting on their behalf?
@@introtwerpit depends on the government. If the government is more literal Islamic, then there's more discrimination, if less literal/more secular and liberal Islam then there is less discrimination
@@sarakunb621 during the shah’s so-called liberal regime there was still a lot of racism and homophobia. More white appearing Iranian people were revealed.

The context and landscape matters but the video shows how even half way across the world,
LGBTQ and black peoples are discriminated against. Also some people think they don’t exist in Middle East but they do
But also solidarity, because we should overcome discrimination in society wherever it is, US UK or iran
Hard to hide as a black person. You shouldn’t have to but it’s a bit easier to slip through with diff sexuality than is deemed acceptable. Jus sayin..
I agree the reason Iranian have their issues is because of the islamic regime, and everyone know how bad they are. but how can we deny two people honest and heartbreaking stories like you did in the comment? it is not fair. I want freedom for Iran but It lying if we ignore that we DO have racist, and homophobic people in our society, EVEN in the community of people who DESPERATELY want free iran people silence eachother and judge eachother. we need to fix culture that got poisoned and free iran to all be happy.
@@Hermesborugerdian I do agree with you, we were very advance thinking before the regime. but the same people who advocatted for regime 48 years ago i doubt they are the young women in the video who did he interview so its not a fair comparison . i agree timing is everything, but a two weeks ago the world dont know what would happen the last two daysand every society has racism and homophobic people like you said, but news changfes quickly.. but also we have to remember how dangerous it is for iranian people to talk about regime. maybe they scared we dont know them, many people talk about regime, there are many documentary that reveal the illegal things the IR did to iranian woman. bbc can't stop the iran revolution or woman life freedom movement from happening, and neither can two people who talk about their upsetting personal life story so dont be worry.
@@HermesborugerdianYou know what, I don't agree with you. and that's okay. that is beauty of democracy. I just hope and pray that the day we reach freedom everyone's voice is treated equally, no one is outsider. no one gets treated differently for their politics, religion, sexuality, where they come from, what they look like. because unfortunately in diaspora, it is very toxic, even at our protests we fight fabout our different politics even though we want one same goal to get rid of IR. each society should take responsibility to make videos telling about its issue in culture but dont deny these women of the braveness it took to speak up.
Love you all
I’ve never met an Iranian I didn’t like or respect. So this is not an Iranian issue, but rather an Iranian government issue. They hate their own people. Why? Iranians are good, friendly, respectful, and smart. It’s a shame that the government has destroyed the country. It’s really sad
Skin color discrimination should not at all be concatenated with lifestyle choice discrimination...they are separate categories of discrimination...

They’re echoing words and phrases of west left. They’ve been absorbed. They lacked the individuality they claim they left Iran to express. They didn’t talk like normal people.
You are bizarre. 🤣🤣🤣 What are you even talking about? They hit a nerve or what?

6:05-6:38 (33 s)
7:45-8:18 (33 s)
9:40-10:05 (25 s)
