Thank God! Finally, no crapping on the turbo 4 cylinder. Kudos for recognizing the engineering that went into it to make it one of the best handling cars on the planet- at any price. I suspect that the BASE Cayman, with no options, 6 speed manual transmission is the answer to every Sunday morning for any adult with kids and a mortgage. Sure, high price to play, but- that Porsche crest on the hood, good chance the neighbors (all of them) won't have one, and- the pure driving pleasure... Hmmm, gotta wipe up the drool.
The four cylinder is a wonderful engine, much better than the old six. I love the sound of mine and the fact that it’s quieter. I think the 718 is Porsche’s best looker too, ever.
As regards the engine, yes it was much better than the six with the constant need to Rev it. However I’ve sold the car because it wasn’t reliable, it broke down four times and, because there was no protection, paint chipped off the front of the rear wheel arch and the sills. Porsche did repaint it but I had to pay for a protective plastic coating. I’d previously had a 987 which had to have about £4000 worth of work done on it at 55,000 miles, while my daughter paid £1000 for the same parts on a Focus at 95,000, so I decided it had to go and now I’m back with a Mercedes, which is far better equipped, far better value and hopefully as reliable as the previous two I had. I still have my 356, but I shan’t be buying any more Porsches, especially as I heard yesterday there are a couple of recalls, for incorrectly tightened suspension parts and possible rod failures in the six cylinder 718. It was a beautiful looking car and nice to drive, but marred by a rotten heater, excessive noise and quality issues. Sad really because I lost a lot of money.
Forget PASM/Sport Chrono/Sport Exhaust/PDK/torque vectoring and $12K more for S version Get base car with manual upgrade seats and stereo and work your dealer and voila you have a GREAT sports car That won't break the bank and drive it like you stole it!

@@paulsz6194 some people want a sports car, not a supercar. The cayman is nice and small, Golf size, easy to park. The 718 Cayman is what the 911 used to be.
Hard to pin point one amazing thing that stands out with these turbo variants. Just such a great balanced car full of great components and that torque filled engine is a real treat to drive, slingshotting out of corners and pulls hard at all the right spots. Incredible and stands proudly apart from anything NA.
What are these on road costs you speak of? We get hosed here in Canada with charges for everything left, right and every corner. Your price for this car seems very high. Are you in Australia or New Zealand? Either way I'd love to visit either country. Take care.
Bullshit, they had to go with the market and to make a gap between they 718 and 911 with their 6c turbos. Only thing to be a bit disapointed is the sound (depends on taste) but this thing is way more efficient, agile, nippy and a lot more fun of increased performance.
Welcome to Aus. Where high end BMW and Mercedes cost Lambo and McLaren money. That's why I'm never impressed at a guy with a Lambo in the US. It's not even hard to acquire compared to Aus

yep you can easily fork out $45,000 AUD just in luxury car tax, goes straight to the government....welcome to australia..... plus it sounds like crap, would buy the alfa guila v6 over this anyday....
All the premier automakers charge a mint for their cars...part is tax, but most of it is because they can. Companies don't call Australia "treasure island" for nothing.
In Germany the price starts at 65k € for the Cayman S. But with all the upgrades you probably want to have you can add 20k €... I mean 85k€ for a Porsche is basicly nothing...
To be honest I really don’t like that 4 cylinder engine. Would have bought a 6 cylinder in an instant but not this, sounds like a lawnmower. As for cockpits, Audi make better IMO. What’s more if you want the entire care painted ffs, you have to pay EXTRA. Jokes.
The four cylinder engine is much better than the six, it is faster everywhere and doesn’t need revving, but more than that, the new car is much better for road use with a companion

I don't think the 4 cylinder engine sound is a big problem......
Indeed, this thing makes moire fun than a 911 Carrera or even a S model.
dude, compared to the 981 and 987, it sucks, really bad, and if you still think it sounds alright, it sounds way worse irl.....
@@olivercullen1737 well, as Jeremy Clarkson once said: " the only reason you would buy a Cayman is because you can't afford 911 ".

Australia mate. You guys have it so much better for cars.
Caymen s $140,000 - lct = 118,000 - 10% gst = 108,000 - tariffs = $100,000 aud / 70000usd in usa
Porsche made a terrible move with turning the Cayman into a 4 cylinders car. I hope the 718 GT4 comes with a naturally aspirated 6 cylinders.

S96Blue 718 was originally intended to be a 4 cycling know some history before judging please..
Typing in "Porsche 718 caymen" in google says its 50k - 65k. Not 145k like was mentioned in the video. Who made a mistake? lol
+Christopher Aguilar - prices are noted in Australian dollaridoos.
Yeah we have the bullshit luxury car tax (33%).

Is this GT silver metallic or rodium silver metallic
Looks very similar to the one i have which is GT Silver
It's a race car. You want auto braking and keyless entry? You just need seats and a steering wheel.
essel23fly & a flat 6 :P
You have pay extra for the reverse camera 🤣
no cupholders?
2:14 $170,000 dollars???
Australian car tax is brutal.

72Moochung - You're comparing apples to oranges. The Cayman and Guila are targeted at different segments of the market. Tough choice, imo.
All the premier automakers charge a mint for their cars...part is tax, but most of it is because they can. Companies don't call Australia "treasure island" for nothing.
What? That 7%? It's not tax.
i do not understand how you can get the car to price 170k. i think someone made a mistake.
Why would you want keyless entry? Greater theft risk. Hilarious, thats your only negative? Desperate.
Who else freaked out when he said 170k
That steering wheel is wayyy to high for you dude
170.000 dollars. Cayman?! Are you sick?
The Porsche for those who have a mortgage....🤔 How big is there fucking mortgage. The cars is 170k for fuck sakes. That it a mortgage. 😯
Yes, it is great, bit why the hell PDK in that car!!! That's a crime!!!
sounds and probably drives just like a golf
iamtuzii no.
Mid-engine rwd, would drive like a golf? BAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAH
Ridiculous pricing. No thanks.
Double the price that in USA i think, shitty tax in Australia for imports and the cost of shipping them herew
Naik Michel in my country it around costs 380k $ xD

Such name gift me one 2005 golf GT :D you little rich Nazi :D :)

Waste of money. $140K? For $90K you could by a used Cayman GT4.

Easy Eagle this isn’t USD this is AUD
a used gt4 in Aus is around 190k
Porsche. Not Porsh. Sheesh.
wrong price... jesus.
????
with 4 cylinder turbo this thing is glorified Golf
Have you driven one? Road or track? It is no golf.
I would buy Audi SQ7, for this much amount. That's wayyyyyyy More fun..
X V I wud still get SQ7 :)
