I'm a little older than you guys and I was playing this on the radio for you! "Because" is, for me, The DC5 at their best, followed closely by "Can't You See That She's Mine." Solid band, but while Clark could keep a beat he "had some issues" rolling around the set for fills. Proof of the old adage: KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)! When the DC5 was new we thought it would be The Beatles and them, not the Beatles and Stones as it turned out. I wonder if Clark's shady business practices had anything to do with it.
Fantastic.. You give me hope. Tell all your friends. I remember my brother, Jes debating with friends about DC5 v Beatles. He was DC5 all the way. He grew up to be an incredible drummer and I miss him so very much.
I am 73 and this song still makes me feel young again. Amazing what such a beautifully written song can do to these old bones. The Dave Clark Five mastered this song to make it amazing no matter how young or old you are. It touches deep in your heart and soul.
I teared up too; thinking we'll never have these innocent days again. The covid thing brings me to TH-cam to go back in time; the "old days" and the best music/bands. No "new normal" or new "music" for me. A real melody with lyrics you understand by musicians who really played and vocals that weren't electronically altered.
Little Sweetie This music was written to bring us joy and though we “can’t go home again”,we can take this great music with us wherever we go! Listening to the DC5 always puts a smile on my face🎼😊🎼 Hope it will do that for you too real soon .Better days are coming 😊🌈😉
And they used real words!! Real, proper, understandable English words. Not knocking other languages, but what we're presented with these days may as well be in an alien dialogue, for all I can understand of it!! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Hi Mark W, this is also the time era as a young teenager ( & hippie Chic) & still have a few of their LP's, can understand what they are saying, but most of the music you could. Sir I was born in 1988 but bc of my dad listening to KEARTH 101 radio station & my family going to a restaurant that played 60's music my brother & I grew up to love it. We are musicians now & play this stuff for fun at parties.
This song was popular while I was in high school. Every time I hear this I think about how great those years were. How I long to go back to those times when I was young and carefree.
''Because" was the slow song I would have asked the DJ to play for Kathy Dougherty at my HS Senior Prom ... however ... @@richardhartford609 They had a fine run for the the times & Dave was a smart as hell guy on top of his talents. Around 16 or so albums & an induction into the now lame Rock n Roll Hall of Fame i would say that's not a sad accomplishment . It was the sad facts of the deaths of several members later in their careers that was the sad part of what was & is a great band of their generation. At 83 Dave's still with us & he sure has made his mark on music & music history. Not as bad as many bands from the mid 60s.
The fact that this resonates all these years later is what makes it a classic. I was fortunate to have listened to this playing in the background of my wonder years. ✌☺

2024 & reliving my 1st date with my now husband. DC5 performed in Singapore & he brought me. Always felt DC5 at the time really did give even the Beatles a run for their money.
My memory every time I hear this song takes me back to the 60’s to a coastal town that was popular hangout for kids with a large selection of pinball machines. Great times when life was less complicated, and kids could be left for hours with no fear.
This song is simply amazing! It has everything, warmth, passion, and that organ is the soul of the tune. I have heard Because before in stereo, but this version blows away the other one! Too bad all those early british rock groups like the Kinks weren't recorded in true stereo like this gem. This tune NEVER gets old.

I must say, "The Dave Clark Five" gave "The Beatles" a run for their money during that heady time of 1964-1965! "Because" is such a romantic song! I dig Mike Smith's Vox Continental Organ solo! Still listening to this gem on high rotation in 2020. I was singing along in the grocery store a few months ago. People smiled and totally got it. The DC5 are still criminally overlooked.
Back in the late 60's, My band The Kastaways had the immense pleasure of opening for The Dave Clark 5 at the Boston Gardens. We where a local band from the town of Winchester and only in our early twenty's when we had the gig. I have to say these guy's where complete gentleman, and fun to be around. We had a dynamite time playing ,the Garden was packed and we where all rocking. Alas they are all gone now except for Dave, but I still have all the memories of that night.
Lenny Davidson is still with us.Let's hope Dave will be sharing the profits when the new remastered double vinyl "All The Hits" comes out on Jan 24,2020. Lenny is so deserving of a piece of that pie !
@@fangirllinda agreed.... And Dave Clark screwed Mike Smith over too.... So sad because Mike was actually the musical genius behind thé group. He was never given crédit for thé incredible work he produced. No one got their fair share because Dave Clark was not willing to acknowledge the talent of anyone else. Valarie Newsham I think all DC5 fans were disappointed to find out that the band members may have been shortchanged. It’s hard to know all the details, but maybe the guys just weren’t aware of what they were signing away on those contracts. And then there’s Ron Ryan....🤦🏻♀️ The most disappointing story(and saddest) is how Dave allegedly didn’t come up with the funds to buy Mike the special wheelchair or van that he needed after the accident. That breaks my heart😞especially since Dave often refers to himself and Mike as being “mates”.The only up side to that story is there may have been some royalties from the use of GAO in the 2006 movie “Garfield A Tail of Two Kitties” I sure hope some of that went to Mike. Having said all that, the silver lining is that 56 years later,The DC5 music still makes me smile 🎶💕🎶 RIP Denis,Mike, and Rick.

Saw the Dave Clark Five in Chicago when I was a teenager. Had front row seats. Mike Smith was my favorite. Awesome memories of a happier time. So glad I grew up when I did before the world went crazy.
Incredible that them and the Beatles coexisted for a short time. And they wrote and performed and come out with hits simultaneously. Like a huge waterfall

My word, I was twelve years old and this song stirred so much hireath in me. My first huge crush, Larrissa K. Still brings a tear. My ex passed away almost three years now, and it's still painful. Here it comes again. Still single and starting to crush on a gal, I can't believe I have the same swoon factor left in me and I'm 67yrs old.
This is the DC5's "Signature Song" that I am still grooving on as the year 2022 ends. This is a timeless classic that will forever be loved for years to come by the young of today and us "baby boomers" who were alive when the British Invasion 'hit' the American music scene in the mid-1960's. Happy 2023 Everyone from New Mexico USA!
As a kid in the 60's I at times had to stop and think is the Beatles then realize it was DC5. And even for some time I thought Mike Smith was Dave Clark. Mike Smith should have gotten far more recognition. What a wonderful time to grow up. I tried to watch this years Grammy's and couldn't take 45 seconds of it..This is a reason why... RIP Mike.. Can you imagine seeing DC6, The Hollies and the Kinks..Yea that's the shows what we went to..

@@larryl1427 I too listened to WCFL at night here in NJ on my 6 transister. I think WLS was right next to our local WABC and hard to tune in. We were so lucky to grow up in that era!
Hay canciones como esta, que son atemporales, es decir buenas para escuchar en todo tiempo. La letra es sencilla y fácil de entender, el ritmo es bueno y ha sido una de mis favoritas de todos los tiempos.
Always loved these guys! They had such a pure sound and great harmonies too. They had one hit after another and came closer to the Beatles than any other group did back then. Miss them
The chord structure of this song is pretty sophisticated. Augmented chords aren't heard much in pop music from that time. More than a few early Beatles songs incorporated these passing chords as well. This song is a great time piece from that extraordinary year of 1964. One of my all-time favorites!
One of the best songs from the past. There's a small tear in eye every time I hear this song. I remember John, David, Billy, Sam, Chris, and so many more from that time , all whom died way too young. Thanks for this beautiful rendition of this song, well done.
Back in the time when kids were allowed to be kids, to grow up normally and at regular pace. No screamin media 24 hrs a day, mostly devoted parents and pretty strict schools. Today, not so much.
Yes, agree totally. I had a loving father but if I screwed up at school or anywhere else I did not want to come home for I knew what I would be facing. Not physical harm, just a strong suggestion from him and that face that I did not want to do it again, and guess what, I grew up just fine..........................
Mike, you're idealizing it. True, though, about 24-hour propaganda channels and "anti-social" media. We had our issues then, but it was easier to understand them with a common set of facts, or certainly closer to that. But I digress - this is a gorgeous song, then, now and always. Thank you DC5!
I said a prayer to my heavenly father and I listened to this song and the tears were flooding from my eyes this song was so soothing to my soul. I believe the Lord sent this song my way because after I had a good cry I felt better
I couldn't agree with you more. Those were the best days. The music was great! Life seemed simpler ....but life goes on. I'm thankful for having this technology to hear these beautiful songs.....great memories!
Still listening in October, 2019? Damn right! This is perhaps their greatest, certainly on the ballad side. Nice stereo, too, giving it a great timelessness; thank you for the effort! There was a time when the "top two" British Invasion artists were The Beatles and The DCV. This song is one big reason why that was true.
Dave Clark Five is one of the finest bands ever. Lyrics, Melodys ..yep....played my 45s over and over and over until I knew every word. Great good ole days of record player and record's oh and dance. I ❤️ LOVE to dance
It's right that I should care about you And try to make you happy when you're blue It's right, it's right to feel the way I do Because, because I love you It's wrong to say I don't think of you 'Cause when you say these things You know it makes me blue Give me one kiss and I'll be happy Just, just to be with you Give me, give me, a chance to be near you Because, because I love you Give me one kiss and I'll be happy Just, just to be with you Give me, give me, a chance to be near you Because, because I love you Because, because I love you
Scott Hunt It's a Dave Clark song, not Mike Smith. Mike is singing lead on it because he was their lead singer, and a great one at that. One of the very best. But Dave Clark wrote the song.
@@mtp4430 Look this up on Wikipedia ("Because" Dave Clark Five) and it states in the first paragraph that Mike was a co-writer. But other articles point out that Dave Clark had absolutely no expertise at all in songwriting, and he only took a credit b/c the band was named after him. If the truth be known, Mike Smith probably wrote the song with precious little assistance from DC. Moreover, there are other articles where someone named Ron Ryan claims he co-wrote or wrote song of the band's biggest hits, including "Because" so who really knows? A decent read can be found at www.richieunterberger.com/wordpress/tag/the-dave-clark-five/
@UCV5tI5SYLNWyz8NpCKg6wcw You're totally clueless. I was born in the 50's, so I know this music very well. You ought to do your research before you start spouting off about things you're only guessing about. To many who were close to the band, Dave Clark took credit for much of what he didn't do, so stop giving him more credit than he deserves. And before you start disputing anything in Wikipedia, why don't you prove you know more than they do and have the evidence to back it up. Until then, you'd be better to remain silent and only be thought of as a fool rather than opening your mouth and removing all doubt.

Yes they were great and I'm turning 70 love those days God bless 😍
I'm a little older than you guys and I was playing this on the radio for you! "Because" is, for me, The DC5 at their best, followed closely by "Can't You See That She's Mine." Solid band, but while Clark could keep a beat he "had some issues" rolling around the set for fills. Proof of the old adage: KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)! When the DC5 was new we thought it would be The Beatles and them, not the Beatles and Stones as it turned out. I wonder if Clark's shady business practices had anything to do with it.
I am 29 yrs old but I am more into oldies songs 😌, 2023 and I am still listening this song ❤️❤️
Great taste but Take a close look at the DC5 story. Not good.
You have great musical taste

This music was written to bring us joy and though we “can’t go home again”,we can take this great music with us wherever we go! Listening to the DC5 always puts a smile on my face🎼😊🎼

@@richardhartford609 They had a fine run for the the times & Dave was a smart as hell guy on top of his talents. Around 16 or so albums & an induction into the now lame Rock n Roll Hall of Fame i would say that's not a sad accomplishment . Amen to that! (61 yrs here)
Just another great British band
I saw them live in.the 60s and this song is a perfect testament to those great times I lived through
My memory every time I hear this song takes me back to the 60’s to a coastal town that was popular hangout for kids with a large selection of pinball machines. Great times when life was less complicated, and kids could be left for hours with no fear.
Wildwood N.J. the Jersey shore.
And all over Texas in the 60's, too. Riding bikes, playing kick the can, catching fireflies, falling in love for the first time.

I think all DC5 fans were disappointed to find out that the band members may have been shortchanged. It’s hard to know all the details, but maybe the guys just weren’t aware of what they were signing away on those contracts. And then there’s Ron Ryan....🤦🏻♀️
The most disappointing story(and saddest) is how Dave allegedly didn’t come up with the funds to buy Mike the special wheelchair or van that he needed after the accident. That breaks my heart😞especially since Dave often refers to himself and Mike as being “mates”.The only up side to that story is there may have been some royalties from the use of GAO in the 2006 movie “Garfield A Tail of Two Kitties” I sure hope some of that went to Mike.

divina de la juventud. Espero qué esta narrativa haya sido agradable a todos ustedes

The chord structure of this song is pretty sophisticated. Augmented chords aren't heard much in pop music from that time. Nowadays it's NOT considered right to feel the way you do;
Yes, agree totally.

@@scotthunt2479 You we're born in the 50s, so what did that make you, like 7 years old when they recorded this material?
You're a disrespectful idiot. I spent 35 years in the music business and you tell me I'm spouting off.
What have you done in the music business? Do you write, do you produce, are you a promoter? What was your function in the business?
Go ahead, I'm waiting tell me what expertise you have in the business? You're the one spouting off?
I've played shows promoted by Sid Bernstein. I've played on bills with other acts including Grand Funk Railroad, Leslie West and Mountain, The Outlaws, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Flo and Eddie (The Turtles), Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge, Dion Dimucci, and many others.
I'm not bragging nor am I talking down to you but don't you be disrespectful and tell me I'm spouting off about something I clearly no more about than you.
Go ahead, find me an article or an interview with Mike Smith saying that he co-wrote the song and didn't get credit for it?
I'm done, over and out, and I wouldn't even dignify you with another comment. Spouting off???? How? Because you're totally misinformed? That's you spouting off my friend.
Go ahead, Mr research, post something with Mike Smith saying what your claiming. Certainly he'd be bitching about it and it must be documented somewhere.
I want to see and hear Mike Smith making those claims.
