I am laughing at 'dad rolling his eyes'. That's hysterical and it was so common back in the day. When these groups would come on Ed Sullivan my dad would roll his eyes too. lol
Beautiful harmony and stage presence. The Turtles enjoyed themselves while preforming what true professional musicians who did it with ease. Great sound and excellent positive vibes for all their fans to embrace and relish. Happy times no doubt.
This was my late husband and I song when he got sick and chose to be at home instead in the hospital I took care of him until he died. At times I would sing this song to him( our song) in middle of the night when he couldn't sleep. He said it was perfect song for us two and I agreed ❤️
This is one of my favorite love songs. I believe you made him "so happy together" as his life came to a close. I really respect you and your husband. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I remember what it was like as we moved from the '60s into the '70s. People (especially males) got angrier and nastier. They wanted more "music" dominated by the electric guitar. Hendrix and Led Zeppelin killed this scene the way Nirvana killed hair bands.
My assumption is that they were lip syncing...they gave him a prop because he wasnt in most of the song....So he played around and created interesting visuals.
what is the point of having the french horn there? he never plays the thing. as someone who played that instrument for 2 yrs in high school, i was like "oh, this is going to be featured ina song!" and now i'm disappointed

I don't think most people realise just how talented these guys were, because they're mostly remembered for their "pop hits" but all of these guys could play and sing as good as anyone out there. The Beatles were even huge fans of The Turtles.

I just turned 64 yrs old,,,,,,,,,,Remembering riding the bus at 11 yrs old listening to my transistor a m radio (the size of a deck of cards)listening to songs like this. Living at the time in New Mexico our bus ride from school to home was over an hour. Those of us who had radios had them on the same channel volume upas high as it would go. Our version of stereo surround sound and we would sing loudly to our favorite songs! I wish I could walk out the back door to 1966,,,,,1967 when love songs and the beginnings of hormones felt so real! I wish I had all my yesterdays back!
I'm with you, we are about the same age. It was a magical time to be coming of age..... This was a very strange song, includes a haunting background chorus of flutes (clarinets too?). I remember hearing an interview with the singer, describing the meaning of the song as deep fantasy and wishful thinking... "happy together" being the fantasy, with "how is the weather" being the reality. It's a classic...heard it a bizzillion times, and am still moved by it.
Check out The Beach Boys if you like complex "jazz" chords in pop music. Brian Wilson's approach was also very Wagnerian especially on SMiLE. He was big into Gershwin also. Mark Volman was within his artistic circle, that's how I got into The Turtles
The people who voted this down are merely recognizing the reality of relationships in general, and how very often the elation of being "so happy together" fails us. I guess that's the reason why fully fifty percent of marriages in America ultimately end up in divorce courts.
I’m only 17, but I love this song! I’ve just kind of heard it around throughout my life, which honestly shows how iconic it is. I never actually sat down to listen to it until today though
I was 13 y/o when I met my husband which was in 1967. I was 16 y/o when I had my first child. In August of this year. My husband passed away. So many memories with this music.
If there was ever a tune for skipping hand-in-hand with a loved one over the top of a hill crowned with beautiful wildflowers on a sunny summer day, this one is it! That chorus brings out the sunshine! THIS is the 1960s!
Remembering the best years of my young life---60's and 70's. We were certainly very happy teenagers listening to these songs back then. Today's songs don't come close to those glorious years of music we enjoyed.
im agree with u even though im not born in that era but i think those old songs very beautiful than this day new song that teenagers used to hear.by the way im 17...
I remember this song in the charts. ..these were real good songs. ...lyrics never to be forgotten. ..all we did back then was to listen to great songs on the radio. Times were happier, because we just got on with life, luxuries were not the thing.....
The 20th century will become eternal as the musical century! The most beautiful songs were composed in it! Compositions with a lot of musicality, poetry, romanticism and a lot of talent! What an honor to have lived this time!
This was playing on the radio the very 1st time I saw my future wife getting on the school bus. We married 4 years later. March 17, 2015 we celebrated our 32nd anniversary., SO HAPPY TOGETHER!! I see from reading other post here this song brings romantic memories to many of us. So much excellent music from the 60's!
They found this song as a "throw away" which had been rejected by many artists. It made it to Billboard #1 for three weeks. How could anyone not like this wonderful song?
Apparently even after being in it Christopher Plummer thought that The Sound of Music was a silly movie of no particular importance. Artists can make a mistake in judging what art is good or at least what work of art will become popular. I believe that Vincent Van Gogh sold only one piece of art in his lifetime. Suggests that a lot of people are a poor judge of art.
Tenia unos 7 años cuando escuchaba está melodía y sin embargo la tengo tan presente que parece que fue en mi adolescencia cuando la escuché y no en mi infancia. Gran nostalgia.
This sing reminds me of my late husband every time I hear it. We were together 40 years before his sudden passing in 2019. Miss you so much Danny-boy. 💔
One of those meaningful songs of Yesteryear. One is better of when in company of a lover or sweetheart after all being all alone is no fun. I liked to hear this song when I was unattached. But fortunately in time I found her and now have someone to share my life with. We have been together during 34 years of happy marriage.
You know this song is old when the lyrics mention calling someone with a payphone and investing a dime. Its hard to find a payphone and even harder to pay a dime for a call!!!!! I still love this song, its a classic
I hear it when it was new, as a kid. What a wonderful time. Little did we know that Lyndon Johnson and the rest of America's Democrat enemies were actively destroying America. And today is the intended result.
Not only is this nostalgic, but it shares memories to millions of people. People who remember loved ones, People who remember lost loved ones, People who remember their husband, People who remember their wife, And people who remember listening to this song back in the days.

Wow, that was incredible to hear again, in fact it made me a bit teary eyed listening to it. I came across it on advert looking for something else. I grew up in the 50s and 60s and the music of the 60s as you say was iconic, so many great artists who had real talent, the Beach Boys, the Moody Blues, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, The Monkees, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Small Faces, just to name a few, they were such happy times.

From age ten in ' 67 I have always remembered the drummer on this video clip . He was a showman all on his own with incredible timing on that drum kit . Incorporates the tight rolls on the snare with excellent percussion timing really shaped this classic cut .
The drummer is John Barbata. He later left the group and joined Crosby Stills Nash and Young. In another TH-cam clip, Elaine "Spanky" McFarland of Spanky and Our Gang, the musical group explains the back story of him leaving. Interesting, check it out.

Brings back my childhood memories. Am 64. Even made it our theme song for college acquaintance day 2018. And my students appreciated the music and message!
Same here, I've played in hard rock bands all my adult life, but I still love this song, and The Turtles. I was amazed a few years ago when a young heavy metal shredder I know told me this was one of his favorite songs too, he said it was his mother's favorite and he grew up wit it from his earliest childhood.
Who would have though that a song that only has a base beat as the main component could be so hauntingly emotional......it was my late wife's favorite song as it portrayed our long relationship of 37 years.
My first concert; 1967/8 in Charlottesville Virginia at U. Hall. How my Southern Baptist parents ever allowed me to go to a rock and roll concert at that age (10) remains one of the great mysteries of my childhood! I remember that Flo dropped his tambourine on someone's head. The opening act was Little Anthony and the Imperials!! Amazingly (or sadly!) I think both of these bands are still touring with some original members.
@@nn-ro1lv He's not "supposed to be playing it." He's goofing off like he does in every show. On another program he's pretending to play the harpsichord to this song. On yet another, he pretends to play the hedge clippers, and on another, a roll of tape. There's no "gotcha" about realizing he's not really playing, or supposed to be playing anything. It's for the sake of humor, and it's brilliant.

This was my late husband and I song when he got sick and chose to be at home instead in the hospital I took care of him until he died. At times I would sing this song to him( our song) in middle of the night when he couldn't sleep. He said it was perfect song for us two and I agreed ❤️

One of the top songs of all TIME!
The 1960's was like a gigantic explosion of amazing music, like this song. How come no one ever writes song like this any more?
because computers can't do that
Why put so much effort in songs when you could sing about anything nowadays as long as you just add a beat and some voice modifications?
Because the people with the door keys don't care about music anymore. All they care about is money. Profitability kills creativity.
I remember what it was like as we moved from the '60s into the '70s. People (especially males) got angrier and nastier. They wanted more "music" dominated by the electric guitar. Hendrix and Led Zeppelin killed this scene the way Nirvana killed hair bands.

I was 9 years old in 1967 and I remember I loved this song. The guy with The Horn was obviously having a good time.
I always wondered whether that's a man or a woman.
That’s Mark Volman. He and Howard became Flo and Eddie.
He was high on some drugs
My assumption is that they were lip syncing...they gave him a prop because he wasnt in most of the song....So he played around and created interesting visuals.

That's the mark of a truly great song. A lot of songs get endless airplay, it's like they think if we just play this enough, people will start to like it. That is true in some cases, not in others.

I don't think most people realise just how talented these guys were, because they're mostly remembered for their "pop hits" but all of these guys could play and sing as good as anyone out there. The Beatles were even huge fans of The Turtles.

Right on right on
I very much remember this from my youth. I'm 63 now and i was exposed to such a magical musical journey.
Great story!
i guss you live The good life with good music its Nice to hear a story from you
Спасибо, брат!
I'm your exact age. For me it was throwing a paper route and riding Suzuki 80 trail bikes from Dad's dealership.
One of those songs that I can only call "magical". I studied music theory and play jazz and classical, but this is so special that it transcends.
Check out The Beach Boys if you like complex "jazz" chords in pop music. Brian Wilson's approach was also very Wagnerian especially on SMiLE. He was big into Gershwin also. Mark Volman was within his artistic circle, that's how I got into The Turtles
magical and transcendent, yes. and the guy with the horn seems so particularly happy and makes the video even more happy.
i can't explain the kind of peace this song delivers!!
Happy Together by Turtles is one of the best songs you could hear on the radio in 60’s.

I don’t understand the down votes. It’s such a joyful, uplifting, timeless song that evokes feelings of happiness every time I hear it.
It is and it is funny. I think these guys just did funny. They kind of take the piss but I love that. Back to happy, it is happy. It is what they do.
No French Horn solo.
The people who voted this down are merely recognizing the reality of relationships in general, and how very often the elation of being "so happy together" fails us. I guess that's the reason why fully fifty percent of marriages in America ultimately end up in divorce courts.
Could be because of the clown swinging the horn.
Could be that they’re a bunch of Gaga-ites!!
