- My son Paul sent me this … apparently I’ve been restored, updated and upgraded!
Late 1969 early ‘70 must be ....
Even after all this time, nearing 50 himself and growing up with the song, he thinks it’s "pretty cool" …
Pretty cool indeed to get that from one of your kids at 74 years of age eh …
Must remind him to dust down that old Strat … god, it was a pure tone stoater …… - เพลง
I'm a 63 year young Black woman who grew up with Soft Rock music in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I love this song so much because it transforms me back to a time when life was good and the world was so different. 70's music was the best music in my life! They don't make music like this anymore 😢. These young people will never understand.
I agree! And I'm right behind you, turning 62 in December. I've always been a sucker for melancholy songs, and this one's beautiful. Hard to beat the 60s and 70s stuff!
Music like this, British Invasion, 60s Motown, 60-70s US bands… literal time machines for me.
Realmente vivi esta época intensamente o mundo era outro. As pessoas eram inocentes , a pureza envolvia as pessoas.
Because of cell phones@@Retired_Papa2255
Agree. Came across this version which I actually like better than the original....but also sung by Dean Ford. th-cam.com/video/pVxdD0uFLkc/w-d-xo.html
We are still listening to this song 2024! God bless
With tears streaming down my face, listening to this song…I remember when life was simpler and people were nicer to one another..
Take me back.. please take me back!!!!🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸♥️🇺🇸🥰
Mary,
I feel the same way, dear. You're not alone.
Your so right in all you say Mary, God bless you .
We're with you...
Dump Biden, the divider, and we will be on the right track …
Life when it was simple, less scary, and music before AUTOTUNE! 🤗
70 and still listenung july 2024 got my wife hooked on this song
As a Vietnam Vet, this song has much meaning to me, and every time i hear it it reminds me when i was in the Central Highlands Jungle thinking about home and not wanting to die over there. I still cry when i hear this song 50 years later. I just turned 78 years old this year in May, and thank You Jesus that you brought me back home.
Welcome home. ❤
My brother flew USN A4 providing cover and also assisted in Saigon evacuation.
Again,welcome home.
You made it home . He made it home.
This is absolutely a cry- worthy song.
Ich lese gerade ihre Zeilen und bin komplett gerührt. Gott sei dank dass sie überlebt haben und im Glück alt geworden sind.
Thank you for your service ❤
I know right, went back to Noibai for clean up...still like yesterday, memories still haunt
As a Afghanistan vetrun me to brother
When I was 11 years old my little sister died of leukemia. Marmalade was her favourite band and they came and visited her in hospital, which really made her day. I will always remember that when my mum sent a letter to them thanking them for visiting her they wrote back saying that if they had known she had died they would have sent a huge wreath to her funeral. Thank you once again for making a little girl happy.
Sorry for your loss, but what a great story.
Beautiful Graham
Good People Is Hard To Find... Marmalade Is Hard To Find In These Days...
Ohhh my god, very sad.
What a moving story. Thank you for sharing.
Is this not one of the best crafted songs of all time ? An absolutely stunning arrangement and a vocal to die for. Utterly wonderful.
Dean Ford (Thomas McAleese) God rest his soul, was a fantastic singer and this in my opinion was his best performance. He lived around the corner from me and was one of my all time singing heroes.
I'll admit it's a brilliant song, but this version is a lip syncing version of the original , sung by Dean Ford.
Almost as bad as the Amen Corner lead singer when on Top of the Pops, performed their hit with his mouth almost shut. I know, stupid me, I believed for years that was how he sang !
There were so many talented bands back in the day. It's impossible to pick a favorite band or a favorite song. But this song ranks high on the charts, no doubt about it.
@@tonymak9213 My band opened for them on several occasions. Their vocals and harmonies were perfect live and the band was extremely tight. The only negative I can think of was that their program tended to be a little bit boring. Other than that, they were a very professional sounding band live.
Este chico que canta es Dean Ford? Estába muy guapo y su voz impresionante@@Phil-Sands
We had the best music ever, I was so lucky growing up in the 60’s and 70’s thanks for sharing your music with us
We were very lucky.
Can't stop watching this. Beautiful song!
We certainly did! 💜
Ditto😊
I have said to anyone who will listen when discussing bands, songs, performers - that all of the best, original music was written late 50’s, but majority 60’s thru the 70’s. Any music after that were (usually) poor copies of the greatest era ever.
Just when you think the whole world is totally screwed up, I read the comments of so many very good hearted people and you know.....we just ain't done yet! There is hope of a better world. Thank you
Another John from the era that feels the precise same way!!!
And a Jim from that era who feels this way.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes like I said to my kids all the time with love everything is possible love in compassion for your self and others
Goodness will always triumph over evil 🙏🥰
Some songs you take for granted, then one day you realize its a masterpiece.
Best post up here. It makes me cry when I hear it. I'm a 70 year old man... Masterpiece of all MASTERPIECES!
Spot on .....
I've loved this song from the moment i first heard it in the sixties, an absolute masterpiece as you rightly say.
especially when grow old now....well said
I was thinking much the same as I listened to this song again after so many years.
I said the same, I was so picky years ago and spoiled. Now songs I thought weren’t that great are fantastic 😂 probably because we have crap now
Such a beautiful song. I’m 75 and I listen to 60s and 70s music every day. I never get tired of it.
Me Too.😊😊😊😊
someone said, there's nothing like a song to hang a memory on.
This song along with many songs of the 1960's told stories of a time that many look back with fondness. You had to actually live during those times to understand. Life was much more simple then and people were kinder and more compassionate towards one another. Many of us have a longing to return to the more simple times. As we age, we realize those times are gone and we reminisce to experience the memories again. It's as close as we will ever be to reliving it. We never realized that one day we would want to "go back to our old home" again.
Beautiful comment.
The 70s music will put you on another planet that no one will understand unless you have a love of the 70s music. You don't need drugs or alcohol to appreciate the best music ever. God....take me back to the 70s and leave me there....I'll be just fine.
Well set my friend I feel the same
You can add the 60's to that too. I'm 72 and feel without the 60's and 70's God knows what our world would have been like. To me when they trashed Folk Rock & Motown in favor of Rap music I feel this really killed a lot of radio listeners. Anyone can do rap, it requires virtually zero talent, just a bunch of negativity.. Losing Paul Harvey on the radio was also a major hit for radio. Now days I would suggest ALL school kids be required to have one year of Paul Harvey in their senior year just to get their heads screwed on right.
That makes 2 of us.
Amen!!!
would not want to relive life over again just keep moving onward
I'm a 75 year-old army veteran of the Vietnam War. This song brings back memories and sounds better than anything I'm hearing on the radio these days.
Thank you for your Service and God Bless You
I feel what you feel when listening to this song then and now. And I proud of you Sir.
Thank you for your service. My brother went to Vietnam too,and thankfully came home in one piece.
@@vduncan54 I came home in one piece, but riddled with shrapnel.

Thank you Marmalade for this beautiful Song.

Mr. D. Ford ❤🌹
RIP Dean Ford ,Reflections Of My Life one of the greatest songs ever
He will live forever in our consciousness because of this incredible vocal perfomance in one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
yes the tune really struck hard this 10 year old when it was on the radio.
What a song and what a line "The world is a bad place, a terrible place to live but I don't want to die"
Realmente linda
How true those words are!
A terrible phrase to follow...sab 8 oct 22 bed
That one line pretty much sums up man's conundrum of living. The things that happen in this world are horrible -- human misery has no limits. Yet, we fear death may be worse. Let's hope not. Dean Ford (the lead singer) is gone - if only he could tell us.
My thoughts precisely
Oh my lord!! I so loved this song. Wish I was back in home in Scotland 1970s🏴 ❤
This certainly takes me back to Dunfermline!!
Takes me back to Falkirk in the 70s

Ahhhh, those great songs of the era when you could understand the words, and they had a proper tune. God bless ‘em! X
Yeah a lot of the 70's bands had a good musical foundation in classics and tuning their instruments correctly!

The more you listen to the song, the more beautiful it becomes.

Smiles, hi Cynthia 👋
The sad part is nobody makes anything close to this brilliant song today. 🎵
I think it's the endless modern distractions, every time someone gets deeper into the thought of creating, a phone rings or beeps, and the 'magic' moment is lost .
Back then there were endless hours of quiet without interruptions of almost any kind, for long periods at least.
Oh they are out there now , you just have to want to find them bad enough!
@@rob-robi No. It's just that corporations find pretty people and teach them to dress and dance and to sing (kind of). They then hire someone to write a song (that's like a recent pop tune) and hire someone like Justin Timberlake to produce it. They put the "artist" into a recording booth and record the voice. A computer takes that music and tweaks it to make the singer sound like their had good pitch and could sing in tune. That voice is put together with instrumentals and VOILA !! A STAR IS BORN ...... But there is no soul in the process. Very few of what we call musical artists can even sing on pitch. It has gotten so bad that young people think it is okay for computers to make their stars sound talented.

If they are that good, they'll find you.
" The sad part is nobody makes anything close to this brilliant song today ".
That's the truth, meanwhile dross continues to make millions of pounds out of the sheeple.
70 yo here. I tear up each time I hear this song. Memory is funny; some songs I actually recall images of my youth so vividly. I think it is our inner divine trying to balance us in such a tumultuous world. It wasn't so much a simpler time as it was a hopeful time...I think. I long for the hope.
They were all so amazing. They never got the credit they deserved. Dean Ford’s voice was unmatched.

One of the most beautiful songs ever. I didn't understand one word back then but it still moved me to tears!
There are a million stories attributed to this remarkable song. Too many to list. I truly believe this song STILL flies under the radar when it comes to the greatest songs of all time. Yes, I said that. Forget sales, forget weeks on the chart, listen to the lyrics. This song is timeless.
Absolutely.
Up there with the very best, gonna have it played at my funeral

Dean Ford, 73 (born Thomas McAleese; 5 September 1945 - 31 December 2018) was a Scottish singer and songwriter best known for his tenure as lead vocalist and frontman of the beat pop group Marmalade from 1966 to 1974. Ford (credited as McAleese) co-wrote the group's worldwide hit "Reflections of My Life" with fellow band member Junior Campbell. "Reflections of My Life" has sold more than two million units globally, and in 1998 the writers were awarded a Special Citation of Achievement by BMI for attaining radio broadcast performances in excess of one million in the U.S. alone.
Death
Ford died in Los Angeles on 31 December 2018, at the age of 73 from complications relating to Parkinson's disease. His death was announced by his daughter, Tracey McAleese-Gorman, who described him as 'a gentle soul and great father'. His daughter died less than two years later in November 2020 in London.
RIP Dean Ford. Thank you for all you gave to this world with your beautiful voice.
At 70 years old I searched my mind for a song that would describe how I am feeling at this moment - came up with this. I remember crying to it when it first came out. Thank you Marmalade!!
Timeless tune. I'm 70 too.
im 70 in july love this song.

Another 70 year-old here. Have always loved this song. Always will.
Oh my goodness, we're all 70! This is a song I often come back to - one that's always stayed in my heart, along with Rainbow. Amazing music in the '60s/'70s.
Yeh same here 70 years old now and remember this when I was at school omg ❤️😭
I’m 63 and 1969 , 70, 71 were some of the best years to be remembered….. this song like many of the hit songs of the era live on like it was just last week. When these songs are played now it takes me back to a time when we had so much fun and had few worries. So glad I lived through the sixties and seventies. Thankfully there were so many bands around the world giving us a great vibe.
I share your comment 100%
Ich sage auch immer, die 60er,70er und 80er waren die beste Zeit ,Ever❤
I’m 69 and I ditto your every word. Life was so much simpler then and todays music can’t touch this kind of timeless song.
Why do we think the same? I have the same thought. I live in a country in Asia. But I have the same thought. I am glad I am not the only one who has the same feeling. I miss 60's, 70's, and 80's. Those were the days.
The Best forever timeless Love it , I am 83 years old and enjoy this jewel ❤
I'm 69 now. I played as lead guitarist in a band starting at 15 years old. This is the beautiful music we played and people loved it. It will live on forever and never die out.
Yes I’m 70 and feel so blessed to have grown up with songs such as this one and many others. They stirred your very soul
The harmonies in this song are incredible, and so subtle you might not even notice they’re there.
Smiles, hi Diana 👋
The sheer quality of this record blows me away every time I hear it.
The best line in the song is "The world is a bad, a bad place, a terrible place to live". That was written over 50 years ago and things are worse now.
These kids are too young to know how cruel the world can be, but like they sing, I still don't want to leave it yet.
Great song ,still sounds brand new in 2023
That is one of those songs that is just composed and performed in such a manner that it brings a tear to the eyes and a lump in the throat. Perfect
This is one of those songs that always brings me back too my young and innocent years!💕
How the years have flown!💔
Hang on I'm approaching 65 and I'm doing it very gracefully thank you

Where did these days go ??? Just listen to the "Crap" they give us today. Now I now what Hell is like !! NO Auto Tune, NO Strobe lights and special effects. Just PURE Talent. O'h, what I wouldn't give to go back to those times. Air was clean and Sex was dirty !! >

This is a MASTERPIECE. It was relvent in 1967, just the same as it is in 2022. I pray that all the generations since this song was released, get a chance to here this song. It is so strong and powerful, and true. What I would give to return old home. When you get older, you will all understand this. I was 15 when this came out. I loved it. Now older, I truly love and understand it. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ
For me this MASTERPIECE was stored in the same memory cells as Reflections of Charlie Brown by Rupert's People. And Walk Away Renee by The Truth and Soul Coaxing by Raymond Le Fevre. I wonder how many people came across those slightly obscure tracks ?
I was thinking this also ! SUCH A MASTERPIECE THAT WILL LAST FOREVER!
I only got part of your reply about P,G & E. Not in the full thread either on my PC.

Great song, superb vocals and harmonies! Brings back so many memories to this 70 year old. I know the 70s had issues, but my gosh it was a great time to be alive and young. People were in the main, kind and courteous and the world seemed so simple. The music was wonderful, I really miss those days like no other. I wish my children could have the same life, but the world is now cruel, violent and divisive. Reading the comments here it is nice to feel there are still people who have the values of those days and appreciate those days. Thanks for sharing.

One of the top 10 songs ever. What a great piece of music. Loved it when it came out and it will forever be engraved in my music memory
I love this song so much. It takes me back to a time, the 1970s, when the world was just a much better place. It makes me sad for young people today who will never have the chance to understand what the world was like when people related to each other on a very personal basis. There were no computers, smart phones, or cell phones whatsoever. There were 3-4, maybe 5 channels on the TV. What a great time to have been alive. Such a beautiful song...very haunting lyrics and music behind them...
One of the iconic songs of the time and in my life. When I hear it, I'm 18 all over again. Music is a time machine and this haunting/soulful ballad takes me there.
This song touches deeply and never gets old.
This came out in summer of 1969. I remember it very well, I was 14 y.o. and visiting England and it came on the radio. I loved it the first time I heard it then and I still do. Such a beautiful song.
Ahhhhh.....sweeps me straight back to my childhood....happy days!!! Wonderful music.
Radio on, in kichen wth mum....just getting ready for school....this comes on ....Good memories...
This guitar solo is a song within a song. Beautiful
Yes it is. Such beauty
The guitar solo in "Reflections of My Life", often referred to as "reverse" guitar solo, was a sixteen bar (measure) sequence featured in the recording by Junior Campbell, the band's lead guitarist.
The song is in the key of G major and the solo was recorded thus:
The first 4 bars were recorded as normal, with Campbell playing a long “G” note, tied over from the last beat of bar 3, through bar 4, with slight feedback sustaining the long note.
The eight track tape was then turned over, and Campbell played against the reverse sound of the track, including his initial first four bars ensuring that he played another long “G” near the same point which could be cross-faded against the original - the tape was then turned over to normal setup, and he selected just 4 bars from the reverse recording which are bars 4-7 inclusive - this was cross-faded with the original at bar 4 - lhe then picked up from bar 8 through to bar 16 as normal, so in fact, only 4 bars are actually “reversed”.
Exactly!
@@hayseaglets9966 Wow! Interesting!

This song does stand the test of time. You can try to bury this by the addition of years, since it was released, but being a MASTERPIECE, you can't. The words and music, and the strong message it has should be seen by all generations. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ
Maravilhosa 😍
RIP Dean Ford. Thanks for the great music through my teens,
Man, that song didn't move me near as much way back then as it does now. I'm almost speechless. There was so much good music I think it was just taken for granted. Now they are all rediscovered precious gems.
A truly epic track. Never tire of hearing it. Thanks, Junior!
Best song ever and awesome group. Timeless classic. 🎶🎵💗
Yeah, this is the best song ever!
Man, I remember this one. This is some of the best music ever recorded. It's a shame those days are gone.👏👏👏
Better ones ahead
Those days are live on TH-cam and in your heart
You are so right. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ
And, sadly, gone forever
At 84, 25 years of U.S. Navy life, 22 years as a technical consultant, a wonderful family of wife and 4 children. This is my song for my funeral, probably in a few years. Had these guys play, thru an English friend, for over 5,000 folks on Navy aircraft carrier in Southampton and this song was called for repeatedly.
Whops! Just turned 85 and still cook'in.

I just happened upon this beautiful song while perusing TH-cam. I hadn't heard it in so many years, and I actually remembered most of the words! I so enjoyed singing along! Thank you for sharing your talent with us, bringing us so much wonderful and meaningful music.

Its hard to imagine this is my generation. Crazylah. Life has changed so much since I was a teenager in the 1970s. We were privileged to live through a time when the music was fresh and interesting. Life was full of promise....blah de blah. 😂
Life has only just begun 😅 blessed before, blessed now. Thanks 4 sharing this
I left my youth and my soul in this song many years ago, and now fifty years later it still has the strength to take me back to my own world.... Love You Guys.... Ken Baker
